Does anyone actually believe this?

In the article Disney states: "This family has received compensation from us numerous times over the past five years, and they continue to return. Regarding their current visit, we believe the guest claims are exaggerated, and again took several steps to enhance their vacation.”

to me it is more likely people looking for compensation again if they have done it numerous times in the past

I'm not buying it in the slightest. They said their room at Caribbean beach was $500/night. Even looking at next years Christmas and new years rates it's not close to that much. Plus I doubt Disney housekeeping would be that bad.

The article also claims that they've made numerous tv appearances. They just want publicity.

I have stayed on property for a total of over 8 months throughout the course of my life, spanning values, mods, deluxe and DVC. I have not (perhaps amazingly) ever had a roach in my room. Exposed wiring - No. A film over everything - No.

I did have a room issue once (at the poly). They comped me the first night, but the room was still an issue. They asked me if I would like another resort, I said move to to PORS (had to make someone in the party happy), they moved me and refunded me the difference without batting an eyelash. They did everything they could to make it right and make me happy.

Seems like these 2 clowns are scammers. (yes, I am judging)

We did find a magic band in our sofa at the Poly in May...about our "worst"

We had an ant infestation in our WL CL room in August. They were crawling all over everything, even tv. :crazy2: I didn't notice them until we were packing to leave. Shook all our clothes, tossed the ant covered cookies (That I ate in the dark at night 🤢) and called the front desk to let them know.
It was nasty, not gonna lie.
Disney gave me a 50 gift card for my troubles. 🤷‍♀️
No condoms tho! 🙄

But when judging perhaps counterbalance with the knowledge that they have fostered many ‘hard to place’ children and adopted four, two of whom have learning disabilities. They also campaign for the rights of people with learning disabilities. It is difficult to imagine that social and health care professionals would asses a couple who seek out publicly or manipulate/submit wrongful or exaggerated claims for personal gain to be appropriate foster/adoptive parents.
It is very odd.

This line from the article is very telling....

"This family has received compensation from us numerous times over the past five years, and they continue to return"
Exactly. And Disney does track that.

I have spent 200-300 nights in disney hotel rooms and these people have had more issues on multiple trips then I have in total.

I somehow doubt that any governing agency checks to see how many complaints ppl have lodged at Disney when evaluating fitness as a foster/adoptive parent. They would be more apt to just see...wow, these people go to Disney a lot, thats a plus for the kids.

Interesting how the article had no pictures.
(I'm still judging)

I’ve seen enough threads about the “state bird of Florida”, the palmetto bug, believe it is not too rare of an occurrence.

And the previous ant mention reminds me of my GFV stay where we noticed tiny ants would get to any food not up in a cabinet.

Florida doesn’t have the hard freezes that help eliminate/reduce some pests, Disney does a very good overall job in this environment, but will never be 100%

I have seen dust behind couches, and some furnishings show prints/smudges way too easily.

But the overall story sounds more like an overreaction.

I wonder if they use an internet search engine 😂.
Not even sure what this means. I have been compensated by Disney on 2 separate occasions. You will not find it on line anywhere. This may just be the first incident that made a newspaper.

Just that they seem to court publicity and one would assume that local authorities would run a basic internet search when considering potential foster parents. Presumably WDW would too when considering compensation.

I saw an article with pictures and honestly, I believe it. I've stayed in similarly gross Disney resort rooms. I once did find a condom wrapper on the floor just under the bed. This story happened at the pirate rooms at Caribbean beach, which at this point have reputation for being gross and in dire need of refurbishment.

I can also appreciate the concern with having autistic kids that put non food items in their mouths. It's a very real concern. The amount of dust in those pictures would be enough for me to request a new room because my son has severe allergies. The room was "Disney gross," in my opinion...that kind of dirty that comes from crappy housekeeping.

Not to say this family deserved the Grand Floridian, but I don't doubt the rooms they were given were disgusting. Let's not pretend we all haven't heard those stories. I honestly doubt they ran out and scrounged up dead roaches to plant them in the room, nor did they bring in dust to sprinkle around, and frayed wires to plug in.

Can you source it?

I was diapering a rambunctious toddler after a bath and he rolled of the couch and his bottom hit the floor. When I got him back on the towel to put the diaper on there was one stray piece of pixie dust, a black Mickey head on his bum! One of my favorite Disney pics. We’ve had some rooms that needed work but nothing disgusting.
