Welcome to the November WISH challenge

Everyone is welcome - we are here to support each other with kindness as we each work on becoming or staying healthy. If this sounds like you, we would love for you to join. I hope to see some familiar 'faces' and meet some new ones.

To ease the load the last few months rather than a monthly host we have been hosting weekly. We have adopted this weekly format: Motivation Monday, Topic Tuesday, WOOHOO Wednesday, Thankful Thursday and Free For All Friday.

Weekly Hosts:
Week 1:
Week 2: Oneanne
Week 3:
Week 4: SJREC

Hi all, I'm Lizanne... in for another month. Looking forward to a warm and cuddly November, and the beginning of the holiday season.

Goals for the month:

Lose 5 pounds
Continue on my healthy living program
Get two good long walks in, out in nature not just in the neighborhood
Do two things that feed my soul (in October this would have been attending the stitch group and getting the card reading)

Focus on thankfulness

I'm in as well. :-)
(I'm already hosting the exercise thread, though, so I'm hoping there are a couple of others who can pick up the unclaimed weeks here.)

I'm Nicole in Massachusetts :teacher: and my goals this month are:
▪Make my 500 minute target in the exercise thread.
▪Spend more time outside before it gets too cold.
▪Try some new recipes. (I got lazy in October.)

I’m in and I’ll host week 1.
I’m Cristin from southeast Pennsylvania. I’m a wife, mom of twin teenagers and kindergarten teacher. I’m looking to maintain weight, improve eating habits, and increase strength training.

My motivation this week is to stay healthy for the future. My nephew celebrated his first birthday this weekend. I was at his house Friday (prepping for party), Saturday (party day), and Sunday (eating leftovers from the party and putting new toys together). I had fun crawling around on the floor with him and playing in his ball pit and tunnels (well, I didn't actually fit through the tunnels, but looking through them as he crawled was just as fun). I was doing all of this as the older crowd was mostly sitting around and waiting for the baby to be brought to them. I want to be active and mobile for my nephew, but also for future grandkids as well as for myself! I like the active lifestyle. I mean, don't get me wrong...a day laying around binge watching Disney movies is a good time too! But most days, I want to be active.

Also, today marks 100 days until my trip to Disney's Vero Beach Resort. This will be our first time there and I am so very excited! It will be February, so unless there is a great mid-winter heatwave in Florida, I probably won't be in a bathing suit. But the idea of a beach resort still motivates me to want to be bathing suit ready (maybe for the hot tub). Plus we are planning on doing some biking and beach walking while we are there. And I'm trying to "walk to Disney's Vero Beach", but I might have been a little overzealous this time. I still have 661 miles left to walk in 100 days. But I'm working on "it's okay to fail". But I'll keep trying and continue to keep track regardless.

I will start with introducing myself. My name is Stephanie and live in Northeast Ohio. I have been married for 15 years and have two wonderful kids. DS is 13 and DD is 12. Lots of drama right now with DD. All normal 7th grade drama. I just don't remember this much drama when I was her age though my mom said I was just as bad. DS doesn't have much drama but trying to get that kids to turn in homework will be the death of me. The kids are both very active so there is always something that I am taking them too. DS does karate, soccer, basketball and baseball and DD takes horseback riding lessons and plays soccer.

This month my goal to get an average of 30 minutes of activity a day according to my fitbit. I also want to track my food each day. My ultimate goal is to lose 20 pounds by our Disney vacation next summer. First, I need to get rid of the candy in the house. DD is taking most of the left over candy from not having many trick or treaters this year to school. They are donating candy to the troops. She did keep some for herself since she didn't go trick or treating. She said it was too cold.

For me, I feel like I do well with the workout habits. I never skip a workout, I mix it up, and I mostly view workouts as positive (maybe with the exception of Monday morning when I really don't want to get out of bed). I feel like I have made really good progress with eating "real food". I remember a time before kids when my husband and I would eat fast food almost every day. No it's about once a week, if that. I go back and forth on comparing. Most of the time I'm happy with who I am. But there are still some occasions when I start to compare myself to others. The two I currently really need to work on are getting lots of sleep and drinking enough water.

It's Topic Tuesday!
I found this article on 10 Habits of Fit People.
https://laurenconrad.com/blog/2014/07/tuesday-ten-habits-of-always-fit-people/Which habits do you have in place? Which ones do you still need to work on?

The habits that I think I do well is view my workouts positively. I love walking on the treadmill. It is my TV time and break during the busy and stressful day at work. Most of the time we eat at home now and we don't make anything from a box. I don't wait for an occasion to get in shape and I get lots of sleep.

I am really bad at comparing myself to others, drinking water and mixing up my routine. I done need to get better at a routine and not missing a workout.

What a good article!

I do not vary my workouts very much-which leads to boredom and then I skip one. Will have to work on that.

I do enjoy walking and being outside-today we’re going to rake leaves-that should be a good workout.
I also am much better about drinking water. I followed someone’s advice on here about drinking a glass first thing in the morning and with meals. I drink sparkling water as well.

You will love Vero Beach! It’s such a beautiful resort! We went in March one year and it was in the 80s, so you might get lucky.
I understand what you’re saying about staying fit to stay active. My grandson expects us to play outside-shooting baskets, playing catch. And when we go to Disney he wants us to go on the rides with him and tour all day with them-or swim in the pool! So keeping my weight down and keeping active helps me do that.

I am so excited for Vero! I just can't wait! I think I've watched the same youtube video about 25 times just to see the resort. It does look very beautiful!
And that's great that you can keep active with your grandson. That is exactly what I'm talking about. And of course he wants you to tour Disney all day with him! :goodvibes

What a great article!!

1. Never skip a workout. - I'm pretty good with this one. I floundered a bit in October, but generally, I'm the type that if I only have 10 minutes, I'll do 10 minutes, rather than just saying it's not worth it. Preserving the routine is sometimes more important than the actual exercise.

2. Mix up your routine.
- Not great at this one, but I do throw in variety occasionally.

3. View workouts positively. - So true!! I've mentioned before that I watch videos on my iPad while on the treadmill, and I just set MIL up this weekend to be able to do the same. It really works!

4. Eat real food. - I think I'm better than average at this one, but I definitely have room for improvement!

5. Don’t compare. - I'm pretty good here. I really am not as concerned with how I look as with how I feel.

6. Don’t wait for an occasion to get in shape. - That's never really been my pattern anyway.

7. Get lots of sleep. - Check! I consider sleep super important, and I'm good about prioritizing it (and worry about my family when they don't.)

8. Drink enough water. - Sometimes I do better at this than other times. I really do notice the difference when I drink enough water, but I'm still not quite as consistent as I should be.

9. Know when to cheat. - I've definitely got this one. - Seriously, though, I'm an "everything in moderation" girl and it works for me.

10. Focus on how you want to feel. - Check. (See #5.)

Sadly I can only claim success at two - getting enough sleep and drinking enough water. Good article... it got me to thinking that I focus on food but not on exercise and need to lay out an actual exercise program for myself.

We had a successful testing day today, but I am beat... there's some serious physical labor involved in what we're doing, moving these rather large tote-bins around. I am so thankful it's a short week for me, as I get to go home tomorrow instead of having to stay until Friday, like we have been doing.

For the past 6 or 7 years, each Christmas I've debated getting an artificial tree, but just couldn't do it. I was thinking I wouldn't even put up a tree this year, but that seemed so sad... so I started looking at fake ones again, and ordered one on-line this morning. The clincher was you can get them pre-lit... Cristmas lights are my least favorite thing to put up but most favorite thing to look at. Plus I can put it up as early as I want and leave it up later if needed, without fear of it drying out. I'm really rather excited.

Woohoo - I've maintained my workouts. Like @PollyannaMom I will do a shortened workout if time is limiting. But I try to keep the routine of doing a workout each day. So far, so good.

Woohoo - I went for allergy testing. It was a little frustrating for many reasons, but it's one piece of answers. The first frustration was when the scratch test caused everything to come up positive...including the negative control. This happened since my skin is suddenly so sensitive that it reacts to any slight scratch or rubbing. So then they had to use actual needles in my arms (another frustration, but it wasn't as bad as I thought). Initially it looked like they were all negative (yet another frustration), but at the end it turns out I am allergic to grass and dust mites. So treating the allergies with a new medicine regiment. Also got an inhaler for cough symptom, which did seem to be getting better. But still no answer to why all of a sudden. Unless there is just an overwhelming amount of dust mites in our school building...which is just too disgusting to think about. 🤢 Anyway, back to the woohoo - I went back on antihistamines after my appointment, so hives and itching have significantly decreased compared to the last 5 days when I was off of them.
Woohoo - Countdown is in double digits for our Vero Beach trip. And right now, Christmas is the mid-point. So 49 days until Christmas. Then 49 days until Vero.

My woohoo is that I have worked out last Friday, Monday and yesterday. I feel like I am getting back on track. I need to get the eating more in order. Too much junk around my house right now.

My not so woohoo is I left my fitbit at home today on the charger. I hate when I do this.
