Would buying the latest and possbily faster phone before a trip help in this situation? I agree, using the app to get the BG, after being in line just after 5 am on 12.12 was not good for my blood pressure. I showed up to get a BG, but my husband did not. I went to ask a GET Cm, I was told just wait a few minutes. Real helpful. But I just insisted and she finally helped and he was added. Ride was good, after a hour wait in line in the queue, but we did not return to ride it again during our trip. We found plenty of other engaging things to do elsewhere and just enjoyed our mornings on our BWV balcony looking at the water. And honestly, everyone in our little group going through the ride were intent on selfies photos and videos of themselves during the ride. I think we will wait until people get their fill of all of that before we return.

Correct. And only those who have entered Studios can play this game.

It’s also been proven those who enter Studios, and then leave prior to park opening, can still join in the BG Lottery.

Unless leaving the park and getting away from the crowd helps to get into the app quicker and increases chances for a lower BG I don’t see me entering and leaving immediately. As long as I’m in the park I would at least stick around for the 30 minutes or less before opening and do a ride or two before heading somewhere else.

Not in our case, FWIW. I have the latest iPhone. Wife has 2 versions ago. Hers eventually got the BG before mine. I guess just the randomness of connections and high traffic network volume?

Expectations is the name of the game.
Assume this is the same as you logging into your MDE at 7am to make fp selections for your trip. You may or may not get the times you want for specific attractions, and then you go about your regular day
Here, it's be at the parks by 7am log in and you may or may not get a time frame you want, then you go about your park day.
(this is where people would say a day at Disney is better than any day at home) :D
The've been going through a lot of backup bg so people with one will get to experience the attraction today

6:25am Left LM room
6:29am Find two buses of guests waiting for bus to DHS. Bus schedule has no prediction for next bus. Call for a Lyft XL for the six of us. Can see masses of traffic and brake lights in the distance.
6:45am Lyft 1 stuck in traffic, so we're bumped to a different driver.
7am Lyft arrives four minutes after a bus.
7:19am Drop off at DHS
7:20am Split up group into me and three kids without bags doing bagless line, DH and one kid in bag line.
7:24am Through bagless line.
7:27am Tapped in with fingerprint.
7:28am With WiFi, got four of us into Backup Group 181.
7:31am DH and kid through bag check.
7:32am We four camp out next to GET CM in front of Trolley Car Cafe.
7:45am DH makes it to us.
7:47am He and fourth child added to BG 181 with us.
7:57am on bus to MK.
8:10 Arrival at MK to rush to 8:35 BBB spot.
It is mad, totally insane crowd level. People stop five feet from tapping in to join Bags. People were already streaming out in droves while we were waiting for security screening. Our bus to MK from DHS has 30 people on it.
Fingers crossed to get called this evening. Frustrating morning, esp that Skyliner doesn't open early enough.

There's no better alternative at the moment. You'll get to ride it today. Also, enjoy volcano bay, love it.
We’ll agree to disagree. Whether there are better alternatives is debatable, but there are alternatives. Many discussed in this thread. If it’s essentially a lottery, I’d rather have that lottery occur before getting up early and standing in the park with thousands of my closest friends all trying to do the same thing I wasn’t going to knock it before I tried it here - but, well, now I know.

I get that other people love virtual queues - it works with some touring styles. I’m personally not a fan. I get to VB early and enjoy what I want before the VQ really kicks in. I can only enjoy so many laps around the Fearless River while waiting another 90-120 minutes for the next ride on Krakatau.

Does anyone out there, who has tapped in and then left the park prior to opening, have any experience with MDE app accessibility? It would make sense that inside the park the app would be incredibly slow due to so many people using LTE or WIFI - how is it outside the parks at the same time? If better outside the park I might try that - it sounds like the umbrella cast members have not been too helpful of late based on the posts.

yes someone posted a couple of days back that they tapped, left the park and joined from their room, I believe. Got pretty low number BG. @hiroMYhero you remember the post?

what you're describing is essentially a fp. They are giving the benefit to people who truly want to ride RotR. Some people might book into a bg and then not show up taking a spot from someone who really wanted to.
You're at Disney, I'm assuming you want to do other attractions/shows/restaurants, why is this system the worst? The other alternative is to show up early and make hours on a standby line without being able to do anything else

Yes; here it is:

My plan worked well. Through turnstiles at 5:45am. ....then left right away. Got bg 63. ...Will be back later this am. ...Off for a relaxing bfast now

Maybe I won’t be as rational when I’m in the crowd cussing when I can’t connect to the app, but I’m going to tell myself that if I can’t get a BG that will get us on within the first 2-3 hours, I’d almost rather have a backup group that will definitely not be called until mid afternoon at the earliest. Then we can head to another park and spend time there instead of hanging around DHS with all of the rides facing waits of an hour or more.

If I can’t get on ROTR on this short trip, I’ll have to give it another try next time.

Yes; here it is:

BG 63 is pretty much in the middle of the non backup BGs, so it doesn’t indicate any advantage to leaving right away and logging in from outside the park.

I‘m going to be interested to see what happens early next week when the worst of the Christmas break crowd is gone. I’m sure it will still be crazy, but hopefully less crazy than this week.
