Rise of the Resistance...ride discussion (spoilers)

Before I go back and read this entire thread I wanted to bring up your experience from the first page. The first time we rode RotR was the second day it opened and I felt the same way about the CM's interaction. They made the ride special. We rode it today for the second time and the menacing and intimidation was absent. The CM's no longer did that. I was rather disappointed that they stopped that part of it.
I'm sad to say I'm not surprised. It must be difficult to maintain that level of performance with the thousands of guests that pass through, especially in view of ride breakdowns, disgruntled guests, and other problems that are distracting.

I rode this last week. I agree that the effects are great and I loved the trackless system. However I didn't like the multiple areas and would have preferred a single preshow and then onto the ride vehicles.

the entire land is the first of it's kind for Disney and this attraction is the first of it's type in many ways and your complain is the main complain many have for RotR.
Personally I applaud Disney for taking a chance on the whole thing and giving me different experiences, for straight through attraction we have all the other ones

This might be a common sentiment for people who ride multiple times. But, the way I look at that is that if you remove the extra preshow elements it would probably just mean more time waiting in line with not much to look at.

I rode it this past Saturday and the officers were definitely giving people a hard time. Some kids in the line next to us weren’t following the directions to get in a single file line...it was hilarious.

I do agree the experience is ruined a bit if you experience any queue in the hangar or much of one in the hallway. Maybe they’re getting the timing down; this was my third time and the first time the hangar was clear, and we didn’t stop until almost the end of the hall.

ive don’t it three times now and I like the star destroyer section (especiallly with good cms) and the transport a lot better then “move around while we match you with an avatar”. I enjoy the story with rotr and that interests me.

I think I actually liked the multiple preshows. It added an extra element I've never seen before. I'm not sure I would have liked the ride as much as I do without it. I think the experience you go through leading up to the actual ride rises it to a whole different level.

After it being hyped as the best and most immersive attraction yet, if it didn't have all the different elements I would've been completely disappointed. It would've been just another new attraction with the same premise that all wdw attractions have

yeah I fell bad for people on days that bypassed the transport. The ride would feel disjointed without it.

Question: when you exit the transport and face the army of storm troopers, are they animatronics? 'Cause I rode today for the first time, and didn't notice any of them moving. Although I didn't stay in the room for long; I "obeyed" the officers who were telling us to move quickly for interrogation. :)

Also, there were 2 ride vehicles: the transport and the trackless vehicle. Was a part missing, or did I experience the whole attraction?

Some of them move, not all of them.
2 ride vehicles and 3 ride systems (transport sim, escape vehicle trackless portion, drop portion, sim portion)

Riding it again makes me love it even more. Not even a big Star Wars fan, but man you can’t help but appreciate the attention to detail, the use of technology, and the sheer scale of the ride.

The acting by the CMs I find really made my experience. The First Order people were menacing and felt like we were really prisoners. Hoping I can go again in March or April and this time won't be recording everything (not for YouTube, just for my personal rewatching). Note, I watched with eyes and just ensured the camera was facing the right way so I experienced it myself not through my phone. The whole ride was fantastic, but I did NOT expect the drop when we escaped the Star Destroyer. But was fun.

Question about the actual motion of the simulation part- would anyone say it moves around like Star Tours or Smuggler’s Run or is it gentler? How long is that part?

Its like ST or SR but its pretty short, nothing too long.

I find it interesting that the people that didn't like it as much are referring to the effort to get a boarding group as a hassle or a pain or whatever. From what I've read on the thread that discusses it, you don't even have to show up all that early (few minutes before park open), it takes all of a few seconds to get a bg, and then you go to the ride and don't even have to wait in line for long. That seems like the easiest, best possible scenario for a ride opening of this magnitude. A hassle or a pain or whatever would be attempting to get a fastpass at the crack of dawn a whopping 60 days before your trip, then still likely standing in line for a decent amount of time OR getting to the park hours in advance to wait in line for even more hours.

Am I missing something about what it takes to ride RotR?

Based on my 2 experiences last week, that interaction with cast members might be hit or miss. On my first time through, the cast members, especially one in the interrogation cell, were really playing the role of First Order officers dealing with Resistance scum. On the second time through the CMs were much more matter of fact and getting the guests organized for the move to the ride vehicle.

It might just be that some CMs are better and more confident actors than others.

I have no doubt that is a huge part of equation. Also probably if it's the beginning of their shift versus the end as well as how well the ride itself has been performing.

We were BG 14 on January 3, thus one of the first ones on after about an 80 minute opening delay. The First Order officer was really into it, and we (and the whole group around us) got a real kick out it.

Apparently some people would rather wait in a physical line all day. Others would like fp, but those would go in seconds and only rich people who can afford long on property stays would even have a shot. Locals like me would have no chance.

People can have different experiences. Many/most seem to have good experiences with the boarding group process, mine was just an 'ok' experience and not as care free as what you describe.

My day was a busy holiday where regular BGs were gone in minutes and cell/data service slowed to a crawl...resulting in getting a backup boarding group (135) despite "doing all the things right" in the process that morning. Not knowing when or even if our backup group would be called threw various curve balls in the day.

Our boarding group was eventually called at 6:22pm, almost 12 hours after arriving at DHS that AM. We waited in line for approx an hour.

So yes, not sitting in a physical line and being able to go about our day was great. But I also found the boarding groups filling in near immediate fashion (which admittedly doesn't happen every day), tech/cell service issues (which admittedly doesn't seem to be a widespread phenomena but for whatever reason happened on our day), and the unknowns of how to go about the rest of your day to be a pain and not fitting with our particular park/WDW touring style. There are some WDW styles that work very well with this system and others perhaps not so much.

I'm not necessarily anti-boarding group and I'm sure I'll be trying it again at some point, it just wasn't all that fun on our particular day, if I'm being honest.

Did I understand correctly that Finn can be seen hiding in the AT-AT storage bay? The colossal size of the AT-ATs commanded all of my attention, so I didn't really look around much. But I have been on both the 'front of the AT-AT' and 'side of the AT-AT' experiences. Is there one particular moment and location for each of those where Finn can be seen?
