This year is lookin good..Get it? Because it's 2020?- Another international Disney PTR

It's exactly one month until we leave for our cruise.
Coming up fast!
I had to reorganize our plans for this trip because somehow I missed that Dapper Day was the first weekend of our trip. I love me some Dapper Day and needed to make sure we would have some time for it.
::yes:: I really enjoyed Dapper Day. I'd definitely do it again. :)

Your cruise is coming up so soon! That will be amazing!

And glad you went with option one for your bday! That sounds like the best option!!

And good move on making time for Dapper Day! I always want to go but have yet to plan my life around any of the dates yet!! lol

I've only scheduled one trip around it! The other two times have been complete coincidence. But they're so much fun and I'm excited to put our outfits together.

Why do you have so many fun trips schedule!??!

I'm so jealous of everything.

And why oh why am I not smart like you and schedule cruises during the winter months?! So smart. So smart.

Do me a favor and please make an ice cream chocolate chip cookie sandwich in my honor (get the chocolate chip cookies from Daisy's and then the soft serve ice cream).

I get President's Day off so we were looking for a trip around that time and we were like...you know what sucks? Winter. You know what doesn't suck? Tropical islands. And there you have it.

DONE! Jon will be so happy with this suggestion.

Wait, what are your dates for Hong Kong?! We're thinking sometime in September.
Assuming Hong Kong will be ready/safe for travelers by our trip, we'll arrive 8/28 and then I think we leave for Beijing on 9/1.

Pictures of the ice cream sandwich so I can sigh when I see it and feel bad about my life hahahahha.

OK. I really have no idea when/if we're going to Hong Kong.

It'll probably end up a situation where we wave at each other in the air as we come/go.

From what I've read, if you can wait a little longer into September then it might be better, at least crowd-wise. Weather will probably still be miserably hot.

Your October birthday plans sound very exciting! Being solo at Disney and Universal on your birthday sounds like the best gift ever. Being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want...who could ask for anything more? :goodvibes

Hi - have you booked or paid for anything yet re your planned AbD to China? Reason I ask is, you had so fun on your BSM with just a sighting of Joe Rohde, would you enjoy a week on an AbD Rhine River Cruise, chatting up with Disney Archives director Becky Cline, legendary Beauty & the Beast producer Don Hahn, Disney Legend Imagineer Tony Baxter, and the official voice of Mickey Mouse, Bret Iwan?

D23 is hosting the August 9-16 AbD Rhine River Cruise and those are the named special guests.

You do not need to be a D23 member to book. And as DVC owner you can still get opening day pricing when you give them your DVC info at booking. If you’ve put a deposit on the China AbD, you can ask whether it can be transferred to this trip.

Once in a lifetime opportunity, not likely to be repeated, to travel to places that were inspirations to Walt for his movies and Disneyland, along with movies today, and have conversations about that with such Disney folks in the evenings aboard ship.

No, I do not work for Disney so this is not a sales pitch. But after reading your BDM TR I thought I’d pass this along.

I'm already so excited but I still have 10 months to wait!!

Wow that does sound amazing, thanks for passing it on! We did already book and have put quite a few payments toward China. I'll have to talk it over with Jon but we'll probably stick with China since this year. But thank you again for giving us the info.

Cruise conundrum!

So I got an email from DCL on Friday that said they were switching the day at sea activities for 'favorable winds.' So originally pirate night was going to be the first day at sea, then Marvel was going to be the second. But they flipped them.

That wouldn't be a big deal if I hadn't made Palo reservations for the original pirate night day. Now the reservation is smack in the middle of the Marvel stuff, and actually overlaps with our booked character meet. I called DCL to see if they could switch it, but there's no availability on the new date. The CM on the phone was super helpful and did all she could, but since there was no availability they couldn't change our reservation.

Her advice was to go to the ship first thing on embarkation and ask to speak to the Palo crew to see if they can change it around. I'm just not sure whether to cancel now or wait. If they can't move us to the other day then we won't eat there, since the Marvel stuff is higher priority (plus I'll be in costume and I don't want to have to change in and out). With the 24 cancellation policy, we have to cancel before we get on the ship anyway. I just don't know if it would be easier to change an existing reservation (so don't cancel) or try for a new one. Or if that even maters.

Now as I'm typing this I think I've figured out what we'll do. I'll probably go ahead and cancel now and keep checking back for openings on the 2nd day at sea and if I can't find anything before we leave I'll ask when we get on the ship. And if we don't get anything, there is still no shortage of great food on the ship!

That stinks! But I think your plan sounds like a good one! If you know you definitely won't eat there on your Marvel night then it probably isn't worth keeping!

What is the cancellation policy? Is it like WDW where you get charged $10 if you don't show?
I would say, especially if it's only $10, to keep the reservation and do like your CM advised and ask on board. If you can switch, problem solved. If you can't, explain the problem and they'll probably cancel without charge anyways.

No, with Palo you owe the full fare ($40pp right now) if you cancel less than 24 hours before or don't show. With a policy as strict as that I'm not sure I want to leave it to hope that they'll be kind and let me cancel on short (21ish hours) notice.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Just sad to see it go 😭

I have heard that people have good luck with changing Palo times/days once they get onboard the ship. Do you have an early boarding time?
Our boarding time is 12:30pm but we have nowhere to go after our hotel checkout and we'll probably get there by 11:30am. So not the earliest but not the latest. I'm thinking I'll just cancel and then try for a new reservation onboard. I don't want to owe $80 if they can't switch us over 😳

Hmmm... I think I would risk it anyways, but that really depends on your tolerance to basically (possibly) throwing away that much cash.
