Debt Dumpers 2020

I liked the Traverse, I really considered it in my top choices between Traverse, Pilot, Acadia, Highlander, Odyssey, and Sienna. I previously had an Acadia. Way to go on paying off car early! I got mine maybe around the same time Oct 2018 with 4 year loan at 1.9%.
I just traded in my Sienna after 13 great years with it. I bought it new in 2006 and it really didn't need much besides regular maintenance (tires, brakes, battery, etc.) One thing that kind of ticked me off though is that the cable snapped that moves the power side door. Once it was hanging out, I could easily see the metal was not much thicker than fishing line. Pathetic. Also Toyota gave me a price of something like $2200+tax to replace the cable. They said they had to remove the 2nd & 3rd row seats, pull of the floor, it was such a huge job, blah, blah blah. Ridiculous, no way. I ended up paying $400 to just have the motor disconnected and be able to use it as a manual door. :headache:

Much later, maybe a year or more, I watched a youtube video showing how to DIY. The guy never removed seats or went under the floor. It was all done by removing the inside door panels. Yes it was a bit complicated but no way was it worth $2200.
Also, the 3rd row folding into the floor feature broke on the one side. It's a split seat so I could still fold down part of it but the other side wouldn't budge. Toyota said it would not give an estimate because they'd have to troubleshoot at the rate of BendMeOver/hour and then once they know what's wrong, it would be in addition to the troubleshooting cost. Sigh, never mind. I probably sound bitter but really I loved the car itself. Maybe it's just my Toyota dealer that left a slightly bitter taste.

It could hold the 4 of us plus kid's friends, extended family, bikes, tons of luggage, beach chairs, etc. No regrets. I would have kept it longer but it didn't have AWD and really wanted something more able to handle snow since we are required to show up at work regardless of the weather. The AC & heat system kicked a$$ and no problems with the engine at all.

eta: ooops! I misread your post and thought you were still shopping for a vehicle. I really need to read more carefully. :guilty:

lol, nope not shopping for a vehicle! I hope not to go car shopping for a long time! I need to pay mine off:) I did go with the model you had. Works well in my little condensed carport parking area and met most of the checklist. My Acadia was great as far as I liked the space it had, minor fixes minus a water pump going out, but then started having bigger issues after 100,000 miles and then transmission went out shortly after that.

I have been both really sick and really busy for the past two weeks. I had my first OB appointment on Tuesday and everything looks good. Next appointment towards the end of February. I did have some pretty bad morning sickness last weekend/beginning of this week. I vomited 8 times last Sunday. I started taking vitamin B6 and Unisom, which has helped tremendously. It has taken so much effort to catch back up with work but starting to feel much less stressed now.

Budget wise, we are doing well and pretty much just business as usual here with the exception that I misjudged the minimum spend to get the bonus on one of DH's recently opened credit cards. I thought it was $3k, but it was actually $5k. We had 9 days to hit an extra $1.8k spend. So DH is getting new tires on his car a little earlier than we had anticipated and we purchased the closet organizer for the baby's room a little sooner than we would have, plus I was able to pay off the embryo transfer costs as well. We managed to get the bonus and all is saved. I covered the expenses from other categories and will just pay ourselves back by April, I think.

We also rented out some 2019 UY DVC points from our second Riviera contract since we aren't planning another DVC trip until Aulani in 2021 (HAWAII!). That is almost $1300 that is going straight to the cost of the second contract.

the awfulness of morning sickness nausea is incomparable to any nausea i've ever experienced in my life. on the flip side-the delicious delight and enjoyment of napping during a pregnancy is spectacular (i never knew it was possible to crave like chocolates, a simple nap).

congrats to your SO. since tax time is upon us i thought i would mention this to pass on to your SO-when it comes time to do his 2020 taxes in 2021 suggest that he consider research a rule the irs has for had in the past pertaining to retroactive ssDI payments. if it's still in effect your SO has the choice of either reporting it in it's entirety for 2020 OR looking to see if it would be less of a tax hit to amend the returns for the years, had the income been received timely it would have been received in. we used this rule several years ago to avoid a big tax hit and a friend we clued in on it used it as recently as a couple of years ago to do the same.

was his medicare cancelled for the entire period of time he was appealing? if so-if he has any desire to do something other than traditional medicare like an advantage program he might want to contact medicare to find out what his window of opportunity will be. sometimes the clock starts ticking on that window before you actualy get the new medicare card in hand so it's worthwhile to research your options (we recently changed from traditional to an advantage plan and so far so good).

As far as I know, yes it was. That was part of the problem on the delay. When his medicare was cancelled, he was unable to go to doctors, and didn't have recent medical documentation. Thanks for the information. We will definitely look at options. He is looking forward to having medical coverage again.

Sorry you haven't been feeling well. Hope it gets better soon!

I really want to file my taxes but one of my student loan providers are taking their sweet sweet time uploading tax docs! Boo.

I also want to file mine, but my work still hasn't sent them out yet. <insert sigh here> It seriously frustrates me that they wait till the last day of the month. I think last year we maybe got them a few days early, so i'm hoping for that again this year.

I start mine in December after I get my last paycheck. I know that I'll have to go back and correct things, but I use the paystub to get rough numbers for year-end figures. Enough is correct that I can get a jump on my taxes and have everything done so that when work does get the W-2's sent out, it only takes a few minutes to update the final numbers and run that last check. Since the IRS doesn't even accept returns until the 27th, getting my W-2 last week didn't do me any good. I'm still having to wait until the 29th for a couple of the forms to be finalized before I can file. So, even though mine are "finished", I can't actually file for another week. You might file before me yet. ;-)

I tried doing that with my last pay stub a week or so ago, but it's not as easy for me lol. There were too many things that I wasn't able to figure out so it's easier for me just to wait. I have already received my DH's W2, our mortgage paper work, and our student loan paperwork, so I think it's just mine that we're waiting on. Hopefully everything is ready for you to file soon!

I'm waiting on my husbands W-2. We are doing married filing separately this year and I already got mine and did that, now just waiting for his. I always tell him it's the story of my life, waiting on him! LOL

I did our federal taxes over the weekend. It says we are going to owe $1600. Not sure what state will come out to, but I am hoping we will get at least a little bit back. I am pretty upset because we don't take any allowances at all. I just changed our withholdings from 0 allowances, married filing jointly to 0 allowances, single because it should take out more and avoid this problem next year (I hope). Ugh! I have no idea how that is going to affect our paychecks though since things also change a little with the first paycheck of the year. I am just hoping we aren't trying to figure out how to make up a bunch of money in our budget.

I wish your document fairy would head slap mine. I'm waiting on DH's, student loan, mortgage, and a 1099. *sigh*

Yep. I have my 1098s for my mortgage. I’m waiting on everything else. I expect to get my K-1s last. Maybe some time in March.

My office has a lottery pool that I participate in. Pretty sure we are winning the powerball tonight. I was telling my husband last night what I thought we should do with the money. I told him we would take both sides of our family to Disney World but depending on how much I like you is where you would stay. I would be in a theme park view room at the Contemporary. Some people would be tent camping!!
:)

I have a sister in law who would stay home and get the mail. I wouldn't even leave her to take care of the cat.

DH and I have always, always played the "if we won the lottery which we don't play" game. It's fun to dream big.

Still waiting on 2 tax docs... I just want to file and see how close we can get to paying off a CC. AFTER we get DH's truck fixed.

March 11.

That's my "officially unofficial" decision date.

I got notified yesterday that I have an appointment for x-rays on Monday, 27 January.
The examiner should have her write-up and diagnosis into the VA within 2 weeks after that, so by 10 February.
The VA should have a decision within 30 days after that, or by 11 March.

So, 16 years, 8 months, and 4 days after my discharge from the military, I should have a decision from the VA. Not that I'm counting or anything. But I can see the beginning of the end. I just hope it is something close to what I'd like it to be.
