Spaceship Earth to close May 26th

You could still get FPs for March 4th so if it's going to be closed, they haven't decided on a date yet.

I booked FPs today for third week in March. I was surprised that FPs were available. I guess if it closes before then it will become a multi experience FP.

At this point I think they are going to wait until after Rat is open.

My guess is they realized they had no realistic chance of it being ready for the EPCOT 40th without spending more money...so they took a step back and further realized that having SSE closed before Rat being opened would negatively impact park attendance.

Now they will have a "goodbye for now" event from the day after Spring Break/Easter rush until Mid June so that hardcore WDW fans make special trips just to see it one last time when just ticket sales are lower.

If they close SE before you get there and you have a FP for it, expect a Multi-Experience FP good ONLY on Tier 2 rides. If they're feeling nice they may throw in Soarin, but I doubt it, its just to many FPs.

If everyone with an SE FP got a FP that they could use to ride FEA or TT the FastPass wait could easily hit an hour+ on both rides.

Unless they're unrestricted in all parks, like the Multiple Experience FastPasses for Great Movie Ride were. Then you've distributed that extra traffic to every E-ticket on property.

Depending on when SE closes, they might add a couple restrictions to it (SDD, Pandora, Star Wars, Ratatouille if open) depending on expected crowds, but I'd expect (based on what they've done in the past with ride closures) them to be otherwise unrestricted outside the newest openings.

Any word about how long it will be closed? I posted earlier but no one seems to know. A vlogger I watch says it will be down for 2 years which can’t possibly be true, can it?

It will be much longer than 12 months and 2 years+ is absolutely possible, according to “people who know things”. Don’t expect Disney to announce anything when they close it.

They’re allegedly completely replacing the ride system and several of the show scenes. The former will drive it taking so long.

Last time I was on Spaceship Earth I was thinking about what an amazing ride system it really is, driving all of those cars to the top of the sphere and back - I know it's a continuous chain, but it's absolutely incredible. I really have no idea how it is driven and couldn't find much information about it (everyone always talks about the geodesic sphere aspect). I can imagine this will be quite the undertaking to overhaul the ride system.

Exactly this, I think they will wait until after this is open, they will want another E Ticket attraction to take the crowds. I think if it was going to shut before then it probably would have done so by now.

I hope this is the case. I would LOVE to have one last ride in June when I am there.

We just returned from our trip. We rode SE and it seemed like they forgot to turn the lights on in the ride. You couldn't see Michelangelo painting at all. It was very dark, like riding through with your sunglasses on. I hope this was a one off and not the new norm.
