Way Out Here, Eh? - A June 2019 TR *PTR Link Posted

Awesome evening in Epcot and a great start to HS, minus the guy with the stroller banging you and your poor mom. How rude!!! Back in September, Joe, Gia and I were waiting in line for Little Mermaid and these nasty, little children kept running into us (their parents were oblivious UNTIL I yelled OWW! on purpose. To which they apologized and kept better track of their kiddos). Hee! Hee!

People get so lost in their own little worlds at Disney and completely forget to pay attention or watch their kids. I feel like it happens more there than anywhere else that tourist-heavy! Maybe on the MDE page they need to add a little Disney etiquette video, like clips from your vlog. Just as a reminder. :rotfl:

Ha! I love it. And I don't want ALL my photos to be like that, but I kind of like the non-regular ones more.

When I first pulled the photo up, I was like "YES! A photo where Evie's smiling! Then I looked over at Landon..." It's impossible to get those two to cooperate at the same time. And on the occasions when we've been with my brother's kids we are lucky to get 1 of the 5 cousins looking at the camera.

Def a fun ride. You know not every ride can be a thrill ride and HS lacks in this!

I am really happy that they have Saucers in the park. DHS needed a nice medium between thrill rides and shows.

I am with Landon, I love Toy Story Mania! And for better or for worse, it is a ride that you really do want to ride it a couple times in a row. I was watching a video on how to score higher. I am going to have to rewatch it before we go for this last trip, so Morgan and I can beat Andy!

TSMM used to be a must-do ride for me. It was one of my favorites. Then I skipped DHS completely for several years and forgot about it. I'm happy Landon loves it so much, because I'll gladly ride it with him every time, but I do wish he wasn't so insistent on it. The nagging got old, probably because he's not usually that way. Kind of made me stop and pause.

I should know by now that Landon is always going to do something unexpected. Every new school year or sports season, Alex and I have to attend the parent meeting and hear, "Your son is quite unique." :rotfl2:

I'm sorry I was so far behind. The holidays and going to Disney really hit me hard.

No apologies needed. You were at Disney!!! I can't wait to hear all about it. (You haven't started a report yet, have you?! I don't think I've missed it but it's very possible.) And soon you will be back at the parks for College Program drop off!

You have the best photos! Love Landon’s face- he’s such a wee character

I should know by now to expect the unexpected with Landon.

Isn’t it funny how easy it is to make our kids grumpy. Sometimes I think it’s my vocation :rotfl:

Isn't that the truth?? :rotfl: :rotfl2:

People can be so rude and don’t care at all about others. Andi has a scar from a stroller ramming into her ankle, she brings it up each trip! I’m so glad your mom didn’t fall!

I've been to other tourist destinations, and I don't think people forget their manners quite like they do at Disney. Must be all sunshine and humidity scrambling the senses....:confused3

Almost caught up after an extended holiday absence.

I hope all is going well with Landon's recovery from surgery. Is he back at school?

Hope you had a nice holiday season!

Landon's almost completely recovered and is back at school. Aside from not being able to swim or play in dirt/sand, you wouldn't know he had eye surgery a few weeks ago. We go back to the doctor soon to see if the procedure worked.

Your trip to Scotland looked lovely. I think Ben will be studying abroad in London next spring and he hopes to make lots of short visits to other countries while he is there.

That's really exciting! I hope he gets the opportunity. Was it Ben who came to Europe last summer? I remember the last minute flight fiasco story, but I can't remember if it was him or Nate. (Nate went to New Zealand, correct?) So many world travels for your boys!

There is nothing like leisurely strolling around the World Showcase and taking in the details. There is so much to see. I think that's one of the reasons I love EPCOT the most of all the Disney parks.

I would love to take the Undiscovered behind the scenes tour of the WS one day, simply to hear more details and explanations behind the pavilions.

What a great shot. You finally get Evie with a happy smile on her face and...

Exactly. Landon has to keep me on my toes.

By the way, I know that her shirt is not "Baby Yoda" but it is darn close and very cute!

I didn't think about that until just now. The shirt was a hand-me down from a friend, and she probably got it 4 or 5 years ago. I wonder if it'll fit Evie next summer. If so, she's got a popular character... :rotfl:

So was that Landon's first time on Toy Story Mania? Yay for him loving it so much, but I'm sure him obsessing about riding again was painful.

I'm trying to remember, and I think it might have been. We took him as a baby, but this was probably the first time he was old enough to remember it.

Wow! Great recall. Yes, Ben was in Europe last summer- UK, France (Normandy), Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany. And yes, he was the one who had his flight from Munich to London cancelled at the last minute and I had to book him First Class to keep his connection home. Travel insurance paid most of the cost of that, but still fighting BA about a refund for the original cancellation.

And yes, Nate was studying abroad in New Zealand in early 2019.

The boys miraculously have the same spring break this year and we will be accompanying them to Costa Rica!

Maybe a should insert it in everyone's blogs that I follow so tons and tons and tons of people sill see it. LOL!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'm so nervous that I'm going to run into someone with our stroller! Especially first thing in the morning, people dart in front of you with no notice! I'm so sorry that guy was so oblivious and your mom had such a bad start to her day.

What a scary moment with Evie! I'm so relieved that she was right behind Alex. Are you not able to walk around Toy Story Land with your stroller, I take it? Or did you park it since you were going on attractions?

I'm glad your plan for TSL worked so well! I'm so hopeful that M will be tall enough for Alien Swirling Saucers (we have a short child!) as she LOVES spinning so I'm hopeful she'll love a spinning ride. We'll see!

Why, Landon?! When I pulled the photos up on the app later that evening, I couldn’t help but shake my head. Trying to understand what compels Landon to do certain things is like trying to figure out the secrets of the universe…

But he's a crack up and adorable!! I love this photo!

People were so rude! Chaos reigned supreme when the floodgates opened and men and women spilled forth along the sidewalk, pushing and shoving and jostling for an inch of open space.

Another day; another RD.

A man pushing a stroller suddenly rammed the wheels into my mom’s ankles. She stumbled, and Alex grabbed her arm to steady her.

All right. No apology, but once was a mistake, we’ll let it slide.

Then he did it again!

My mom shouted out, “Ow!”

Still nothing from the guy.

What. In. The. HECK?!
I looked down and saw he was going for a third shot, so I flung my foot out and let it hit my shoe. Then I proceeded to look back at him and realized he had no idea what he was doing. The gentleman was completely distracted, moving the stroller forward was a secondary motion for him.

People are so stupid sometimes.

Only, someone was missing.

“Where’s Evie?”

“She took off after you guys.”

“No, she didn’t”

:scared1:

:scared1: Been there and done that. It's terrifying!

Following, Alien Swirling Saucers we backtracked to Toy Story Midway Mania and got in the standby queue. In my pre-trip report, I asked you all what would be the best way to approach TSL in the morning, and everyone agreed to tackle the attractions in this order.

And you guys did not disappoint! This was the perfect way to do it. The wait for TSMM had only built to fifteen minutes during the time we were riding ASSaucers, meaning we were on and off both in less than forty five minutes.

I'd have reversed the order and can totally see now what what you did is the better way! Go DISsers!!

She was tall enough!!!

YAY!!!

Or not...
Ahhh, crushing spirits…a parent’s most common skill.

Well, someone has to do it. LOL!

No apologies needed. You were at Disney!!! I can't wait to hear all about it. (You haven't started a report yet, have you?! I don't think I've missed it but it's very possible.) And soon you will be back at the parks for College Program drop off!

Michelle got the report started with just the introductions. It should be in my signature. We leave in 9 days! So much still to do.

All caught up! Omg your updates are giving me all the feels! I wish Disney could somehow bottle up the feeling you described walking out of EPCOT to the Illuminations music with different members of your family. Although, I suppose they do sort of bottle it up by allowing us to experience those feelings over and over again! I'm glad your Mom's birthday was such a success!

I can't believe the stroller guy in DHS. I don't think I would have been passive aggressive in that situation! I can't believe some people in Disney. My Mom once had someone basically try to run her over with her stroller and my Mom and sister heard the woman say after they moved out of the way "they better move or I will take them out". Like I dont know what is wrong with people!!

And I think my heart dropped when you first wrote Evie was missing!! I actually got lost from my parents with my cousin at a local park when I was six and it was the scariest thing! It was a case of both parents thinking the other was watching the two of us and they only realized we weren't with them as they were walking out of the park. I'm so so glad she wasn't far away!! I can't imagine the sheer panic that you would have had if she was missing!

So glad your Toy Story Land morning went well once you were on the rides though!

The boys miraculously have the same spring break this year and we will be accompanying them to Costa Rica!

That's awesome! How lucky they both have the same week off!

I'm so nervous that I'm going to run into someone with our stroller! Especially first thing in the morning, people dart in front of you with no notice! I'm so sorry that guy was so oblivious and your mom had such a bad start to her day.

Sometimes, it's unavoidable. If someone jumps right in front of your stroller, there's nothing you can do. I've been guilty of doing it before, but I also have to shrug it off. Obviously, if I do it on accident I apologize and ask if they are all right. But if they cut me off....:confused3

What is the height requirement for Alien Swirling Saucers? I hope she will be able to do it! It's the perfect level of "coaster" for younger kids, I think.

I'd have reversed the order and can totally see now what what you did is the better way! Go DISsers!!

Since I don't visit WDW as often anymore, I fall behind on a lot of tips and tricks. I relied a ton on DISers to help me plan this trip!

Michelle got the report started with just the introductions. It should be in my signature. We leave in 9 days! So much still to do.

Just hopped over to it this morning!

Although, I suppose they do sort of bottle it up by allowing us to experience those feelings over and over again!

It's what brings me back to the parks year after year. I joked with Alex on this last trip, "Disney has its hooks in me and isn't going to let me go easily." :rotfl:

I'm so so glad she wasn't far away!! I can't imagine the sheer panic that you would have had if she was missing!

I didn't even like writing about the incident because it was so scary, but I feel like it was a good lesson for me and other families with kids. Now that Landon and Evie are a little older, we are starting to run into things we haven't had to deal with before. (Like a kid strolling away from a parent!)

June 8th, 2019 Part 2:

By the time we got off Alien Swirling Saucers our second Fastpass had come due, but collectively my family agreed to skip it. Sorry, Little Mermaid, you were cut from the plans yet again.

Instead, all the adults opted to leave Toy Story Land and take the kids to some characters stops. It had been raining off and on all morning, leaving the park a lot emptier than expected and allowing us to run into Goofy in the first character queue. Only Landon wanted to say hello to him:

466595

First up on the meet and greet list was Hollywood Minnie Mouse. We hadn’t told Evie she would be dressed in a glamorous pink gown, so when she rounded the corner and saw the ensemble she let out a gasp and dropped her jaw. I am pretty sure this was one of Evie’s favorite parts of our Disney trip. She LOVED Minnie’s dress and couldn’t stop staring at it the whole time she was talking to her.

466596

466597

A few months before the trip, the kids were on a Sorcerer Mickey kick and read the Sorcerer Apprentice short story over and over again, so meeting this version of Mickey was a must for me when planning our DHS day.

As expected, the two kids were thrilled to see the gold tassels and star-studded magician’s hat:

466598

I tried to point out some of the props around the room, noticing the items that matched objects in the story, but unfortunately the Photopass photographer was rushing us through and we kind of had us pose and move on.

466600

The two (and one bonus) meets took a lot less time than expected. My family was back outside in less than fifteen minutes, and we had to figure out what to do with our extra time. Our checklist for Disney’s Hollywood Studios was getting ticked off faster than I thought it would, and I needed to find some new activities to do.

My mom remembered that Olaf met near where we were and suggested we go meet him. The kids seemed interested in that, so off we went.

To a completely empty queue!

Poor Olaf was just hanging out in his room alone, waiting for some guests to come up and say hello. It was kind of strange, having the entire character area to ourselves, but it made for some great interaction between him and the kids. They had plenty of time to share warm hugs and compliment his carrot nose. They heartily giggled when Olaf noticed my mom’s blue shirt and “said” it reminded him of his friend, Elsa.

466601

Having the time with Olaf was great, but it also reached the point where we had run out of things to say to him and were standing around awkwardly. He was trying to entertain us by throwing high fives and pointing to the sun in his backdrop, and I knew he was going to go back to being bored after we left but…. It was time to go.

Sorry, Olaf! Hopefully a family came shortly after us and entertained you!

After our very long meet with the summer-lovin’ snowman, I hopped on the MDE app and mobile ordered us food from Woody’s Lunchbox. This was the first time my mom had done a mobile order and she was very impressed with the system.

“That was so easy. We don’t have to wait in a line? And it’ll be ready when we get there?”

Welcome to the best of technology, Mom. ::yes::

Unfortunately, because we wanted to try this new Quick Service restaurant we needed to backtrack to Toy Story Land.

466603

Sounds like a pain, but this evil necessity worked in our favor.

Our trip happened shortly before the premiere of Toy Story 4, and on this day it just so happened that the cast of the film was doing promotional work inside the park. When we left the land to head to our Minnie meet, we had spotted a secluded spot to the left of Toy Story Midway Mania with a bunch of people sitting under a canopy but hadn’t thought much of it.

Alex had asked me, “Did you see anyone over there?”

“I saw someone with long black hair and facial hair, but I couldn’t tell you who it was.”

Then, as we walked along we heard other guests buzzing about the people and the activity within TSL. I don’t remember when it happened, but Alex grabbed my arm at one point and went, “It’s the actors from Toy Story.”

To which my mom said, “You mean Tom Hanks is here?!?!?”

And to which I said, “I SAW KEANU REEVES! That guy with the long hair was Keanu Reeves!”

:rotfl2:

Oh, the teenage fangirl in me did a little swoon. Memories of Speed on VHS and A Walk in the Clouds flooded my mind, and I got pretty excited. It’s not everyday you catch a glimpse of an actor’s hair and connect the dots…

Keeping the promo event in mind as we headed to lunch, my mom and Alex and I kept our eyes peeled as we entered the land. There were a lot of Cast Members and security lining the walkways and telling guests to not stop and hold up traffic.

And naturally nobody was listening.

I tried my best to grab a photo as we passed:

466605

In which you can see absolutely nothing.
:sad2:

Oops.

Right as I set my phone in my pocket, Tom Hanks stood and waved to the guests and gave a thumbs up to Woody as he walked past.

And Alex managed to catch a super grainy picture of it:

466606

Not going to lie, seeing Tim Allen, Keanu Reeves, Tom Hanks, and Tony Hale sitting in Hollywood Studios was pretty cool. I don’t know why, but Alex and I have weird luck when it comes to Disney and celebrity sightings. In 2010, I walked into (and yes, I mean into) Trace Atkins, the country singer at the RNRC dump shop. In 2013, we ate lunch next to Neil Patrick Harris at 50’s Prime Time Café. And now, we’d seen the actor who played our pet’s namesake character. (Our dog is Buster after Buster Bluth from Arrested Development.)

Talk about a busy morning!

My family made it over to lunch and by some miracle, we found a family leaving a table and were able to grab it. As popular as this restaurant is, you would think the seating area would be larger. Or has the popularity gone down since Galaxy’s Edge opened?

Either way, Alex ran up to the mobile pickup window, said we were there, and got our food.

466608

The food was really good, and the kids loved having an orange and Babybel with their meal. I think it made it feel a little more normal for them since those two items are standard lunch fare for them. All the adults were happy with their sandwich choices, as well, and the meal would have been a fantastic experience.

Had we not had other guests hovering behind us the entire time.

Evie, in her painfully slow way, took ages to finish her food and people were looking over at our table seeing the adults with empty trays and started to encroach on our space. One woman even went so far as to put her bag at our feet.

I tried to get Evie to eat faster, but I also didn’t think it was fair to her to make her bring her food with her while we walked. Some of the guests were really pushy and rude, making colorful comments about the people sitting at the tables. Alex had to turn around to one person standing close behind him and ask her to not use certain words around innocent ears.

I could tell my mom was getting super uncomfortable with the situation, so I got up to throw our trash away and spotted a family of five standing nears the bins, using it as a table ala Wine and Dine style. I told them to follow me and offered them our table, asking if Evie could sit with them as she finished her orange.

As soon as she was done, we hightailed it out of there. I loved the food options there, but I don’t believe I’ll eat there during peak meal times again. Too stressful!

Up Next…They Let is Snow Inside

So many fun character meets! I can only imagine how much Evie likes Hollywood Minnie! Lol so glamorous!

And how cool to be in TSL the morning of TS4 press! I’ve never seen anyone famous in Disney! Although I do admit to being pretty oblivious to most things going on around me so I probably have and just didn’t notice! Lol

Woodys lunchbox does have a terrible eating situation! I can’t believe how many people were like trying to edge you out of your seats! I could see if no one in your family was eating and you’d been sitting there for a crazy amount of time but that just seems uncalled for! I feel like the busier WDW gets the more it turns into the wild wild west!

Oh my goodness I think I swooned just a wee bit reading that update. Love that you got to see the Toy story cast :)
Evie and Landon's wee expressions are just gorgeous when they are with Sorcerer Mickey and Evie looks beside herself at the glory of Minnie's glamorous gown  Brilliant meeting so many characters in such a short time. Glad you were able to show Olaf some love lol
Woody's lunchbox food looks much better than I expected and mobile ordering certainly makes it easy to eat there. Now if only other people behaved themselves life would be perfect but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case a lot of the time. Why people behave badly especially in front of kids baffles me. There's just no call for it! :confused3. I'm glad Alex spoke up and I'm also glad you gave your table to a nice family who weren't hounding you. You probable made the day a little more magical for them so good on ya :thumbsup2

Love the look at Evie's face with Red Carpet Minnie!

Such a cute, if long, meet with Olaf!

Wow....love Trace Atkins. His song "You're going to miss this" makes me sob like a baby.

Just wrong on so many levels......people should learn a little patience and respect for others. It would go a long way. I would have sat there longer just to spite them. Good for you for finding that other family and bringing them over, that was a good lesson in karma to the rude, pushy people.

Ah this is so cute!!! Little fashionista 🥰

Except for being rushed through the Sorcerer op, these sound like some great character interactions. I can't believe Olaf was all alone! I still have never met him. it kind of weirds me out that he's so big.

And to which I said, “I SAW KEANU REEVES! That guy with the long hair was Keanu Reeves!”

Right as I set my phone in my pocket, Tom Hanks stood and waved to the guests and gave a thumbs up to Woody as he walked past.
Are you kidding.
That is amazing.

Can you please rub off some of that luck on me?? I have yet to see anyone famous. We spent an entire week in LA on the lookout and NO ONE.

One woman even went so far as to put her bag at our feet.
466953

so I got up to throw our trash away and spotted a family of five standing nears the bins, using it as a table ala Wine and Dine style. I told them to follow me and offered them our table, asking if Evie could sit with them as she finished her orange.
Okay please tell me the family who put their bag down at your feet watched you invite a different family to take your place. That would fill me with so much joy.

So many fun character meets! And SO cool to be there to see the cast of TS4!!

The table situation at Woody's really stinks, and it stinks that you felt so rushed!

Sorry, Little Mermaid, you were cut from the plans yet again.
that show is soooo dated. I don't think you missed anything.

I love it! Her Disney love will just come from different places than Landon's.

As expected, the two kids were thrilled to see the gold tassels and star-studded magician’s hat:

466598
Look at her smile!

To a completely empty queue!
Lucky!

Having the time with Olaf was great, but it also reached the point where we had run out of things to say to him and were standing around awkwardly. I love the thought process, I feel like I would have done the same

It’s not everyday you catch a glimpse of an actor’s hair and connect the dots…
actor's hair... :rotfl2:

And Alex managed to catch a super grainy picture of it:

466606
Still amazing!

In 2013, we ate lunch next to Neil Patrick Harris at 50’s Prime Time Café.
Now NPH would be SUPER exciting!

The food was really good, and the kids loved having an orange and Babybel with their meal. I think it made it feel a little more normal for them since those two items are standard lunch fare for them. All the adults were happy with their sandwich choices, as well, and the meal would have been a fantastic experience.
I understand that. Gwen says her favorite restaurant was Beaches and Cream and I think it was because it was simple food.

One woman even went so far as to put her bag at our feet.
Nope. I would take longer because of that. Sorry.

I could tell my mom was getting super uncomfortable with the situation, so I got up to throw our trash away and spotted a family of five standing nears the bins, using it as a table ala Wine and Dine style. I told them to follow me and offered them our table, asking if Evie could sit with them as she finished her orange.
Perfect solution for some very rude folks. I did that once over in that food area by RnR. People were hoovering and I saw a poor mom trying to push a stroller and balance food. And I waved her over and let her know we were leaving in like 5 minutes and sit her food down. She was very grateful.

That's super cool you got to see some of the voice actors for TS! Neato!!

What ISN'T so neato is the rude lady. Very presumptuous... BACK OFF!!!

I'd sure like to try the food there. Been on my list since they opened, but I'll be careful to think twice about doing it during peak hours.

Look at her sweet face!!!!

Caught up!
Evie loved them and kept asking how old she had be before she could buy one. But she also walks around the house singing Tamatoa’s “Shiny” all the time, so this question wasn’t a huge surprise for us. If it’s pink or sparkles in the sunlight, Evie is going to be drawn to it.
Hey, if it takes a tiara to turn my daughter into a Disney fan….this mom might eventually cave.
Love it! Hopefully she'll get some nice shiny, Disney object soon!
“Should we tell him?”

“No!”

(Anyone else have the Frozen craze going on in their house right now??? We sure do.)
Oh boy! Hopefully he'll like Harmonius too!
It was a good day at Epcot – a great day – everything I hoped it would be and as wonderful as I remembered the park to be. My mom had a blast, and the kids chattered about “the purple dragon” as we tucked them into bed that night.

So far, our Disney vacation was perfect.
Sounds awesome! Great to have those perfect days!

I grabbed hold of my mom’s shoulders and squeezed my way in behind her, saying as loud as I could, “Let me get behind you, Mom. The guy is on his phone and not paying attention!”

My passive aggressive remark went unnoticed. The man rear-ended me twice. Before he could inflict any more damage, we broke away and escaped.

No doubt guests have done worse in crowds, but the stroller ramming was enough to upset my mother. She looked close to tears, and said, “Why would someone be that inconsiderate?”
SOOOO RUDE! That's one of the reasons I don't do rope drop at Disney unless it's absolutely necessary. Though so many guests these days always seem to be inconsiderate!
The attraction was fun, and Evie loved it. Definitely a great alternative for people who don’t enjoy thrill rides and but want something a little more involved than a dark attraction.
That's awesome! Remember, we have a Cars version in DCA!
Sorry, Little Mermaid, you were cut from the plans yet again.
I wish Disney would cut Little Mermaid from their plans too! They really need something new there!

So cute! I can totally imagine her loving it!
They heartily giggled when Olaf noticed my mom’s blue shirt and “said” it reminded him of his friend, Elsa.

I'm picturing Olaf doing the charades like in Frozen 2!
I could tell my mom was getting super uncomfortable with the situation, so I got up to throw our trash away and spotted a family of five standing nears the bins, using it as a table ala Wine and Dine style. I told them to follow me and offered them our table, asking if Evie could sit with them as she finished her orange.
That serves those people right who were hovering over you!
