Any thoughts on my dd's app for Spring 2020?

Yes, she was fine with the bus, except the time the bus broke down at the Contemporary. Everyone had to hurry off and catch Ubers so they could get to work on time. She started last week of January, and by mid March she already knew she was extending so we surprised for her birthday, and had her car shipped down to her. She was much happier, but says the whole bus experience was good for her and she's glad she did it (but glad to have the car, especially in summer). Which housing did your DD get? Some are easier for buses, but none are bad.

I’ve read the costuming is messed up too. And my dd told me that she was told the sizing is all men’s ...? Do they have someone helping them find their sizing?
According to my DD, nobody helps them & there's really not much info on which pieces each role needs. She said someone else was getting their costume at the time & she helped her.

I know I have plenty of time to think about this, but those of you who have dropped your kids off for DCP, did you stay at a Disney resort for those days that you stayed in town or did you stay off property to be closer to the DCP housing? I assumed we'd stay on property (we're snobs like that. :D) but then a friend of ours whose DD did DCP last year (and who also always stays on property) said we would want to stay off property to be closer to the DCP complexes. We will be driving there if that makes any difference. Thoughts? Experience?
We stayed the first night offsite but only cause everything onsite was super booked up and too much $$$. After that night, we moved onsite and stayed at ASMo. We were only there for sleep so a value worked fine for us. We got to the apartment for checkin super fast and easy. 15 mins or so?? We were going to the parks for part of everyday though so if we’d stayed offsite, we’d have been making the drive either way.
For my dd, cleaning and setting up her room didn’t take that long. Her roomie’s mom and I ran to Walmart while she was doing that with her roomie. They wanted to do their grocery shopping on their own and room decorating on their own. So, once everything was unpacked and put away, we didn’t linger there. My dd has 5 other roommates and I didn’t want to continue being in their personal space.
We hit the parks and then left on Wednesday. Roomie parents left late Tuesday. My dd did sleep at the apartment starting Tuesday night. The first housing event was Wednesday night and then she went to another event last night. I think leaving by Tuesday or Wednesday is perfect.

I think my dd would love a car and she’s SA so she’s there for awhile. Several of her friends have cars and she’s not bussed yet. I thought she was busing to traditions this morning but just found out, she rode with friends. She got housing at Vista, which was her last choice. I think it’s gonna be great though. Where did your dd live?

My DD was at Patterson, then Chatham when she extended. Vista is best for buses so your DD is in the perfect place for that and it's cheaper too. Just tell her NEVER to try to cross 535 on foot. Too many horror stories there!

Well, that is scary! I don't think she would try that but I will tell her anyways!!

My dd wanted Commons, Patterson, Chatham and Vista (in that order) so she was pretty bummed. Then she was hoping for 4 total roomies but has 6 total. Two of the girls are not nice and just stay in their room all the time (and drink....one is not 21yo even...) so that is concerning. My dd had linked with a really good friend and the other two girls in the apartment are super sweet and those 4 have been hanging out together. Overall, I think it will be fine even though not ideal.

My DD had a couple of roommates like that too. Nice, but stayed in their room. DD was amazed anyone would do that with WDW to explore. That was my DD's order of preference too. I think when she goes back, she wants Flamingo Crossings, even though it costs more. She discovered she was able to save more than she spent. Having a great roommate makes it so much better. Oh, with regards to alcohol, if anyone under 21 is found with it, if the others knew about it and let it go, they will all be termed if caught. They are encouraged to resolve it, or turn in the others. Unfortunately DD had another issue with a roommate violating rules and it was touchy. She ended up self-terming, so problem solved.

We decided to stay on property while dropping DD off in August. We were able to get ASMo for about $120/night so we're good with that. Haven't stayed there in almost 20 years and I'm looking forward to trying out the refurbished rooms. We got 3-day park tickets...might extend them to 4-day depending how things go -- we're driving so we can be flexible about when we actually leave on our check-out day. If we need more park time, we can spend a few hours in the parks on Wednesday before actually heading out of town. (We have an 8-day trip to Disney in June, so we won't need to spend a ton of time in the parks when we're there in August) I'm dreading the drive down. It's a 16 hour drive and we've done it many times but my husband always does the driving (his choice). This time we'll have to get 2 cars down there with 3 drivers rotating. My husband can drive much longer each day than I can. The longest I've ever driven is about 3-4 hours. I could have driven another hour or so but there's no way I'll be able to drive 12 hours (with plenty of breaks) like he does. Hopefully my husband will just drive one car the entire time and my daughter and I will take turns in the other car. Already stressing about it. I suggesting shipping DDs car down but when we looked in to the cost, it's really more than we want to spend. I'm sure it will all be fine but I told DH we need to leave home 2 full days before we need to be there because I don't want to be rushed with the drive. Hopefully the Disney adrenaline will kick in. :)

The refurbed rooms are great! I was anti-value before but now I really like Pop and ASMo! I prefer them over the bigger mods.

Are you planning to upgrade your June tix to APs? Might be something to look into depending on how often you will be down. We did that last Aug. and definitely been worth it.

We've been staying in a suite at AoA since that resort opened so when I told DH we were staying at ASMo this time (no need for a suite for a short stay and plus we'll only have 4 people on this trip) he said, "Oh, we're slumming it on this trip". lol. I haven't told him about the refurb...I'll just let him be surprised when he walks in the room. We stayed at a Tru by Hilton a few months ago and he really liked it. Those rooms have the same feel as the refurbished Value resort rooms so I think he'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm still thinking about upgrading to an AP but I'm not sure it will make sense. Even with an 8-day ticket for our trip in June, it will still cost $600+ to upgrade. Our tickets for August are $300. While I'd love to get down to Disney World to visit her while she's there, I'm just not sure how many times that's going to happen. Need to keep running numbers and figure out if I can definitely get down there to visit her.

We bought our 7-day tix back in Aug from UCT and I bought the ones that had the most savings off the gate price. Because we upgraded everyone's ticket, it was a hefty price tag but we did save $68 or $72 (iirc) off each ticket. My dd17 ended up performing at Epcot with her choir before Christmas so we did the parks for 5 days then. My boys and I took dd19 down for the DCP and did 4 days in the parks. DD17 is going back for 3 days by herself in March. Dh & I are going for 4 days in April. Then we are all 5 going back for 11 days in May. Dh, dd17 & I are going in June. Lol! I had no plans to go this much but we play the credit card game for airline points and with having AP's, it's just lots more feasible. I figure we will take a long Disney break after dd is done with her program. I have a feeling we will be ready but it's fun to go so much right now :)

My dd had costuming today! Sent me a pic after she got home. She looks so cute in her costume and has her 'earning my ears' ribbon. This all feels so very real now!!

I can see where it totally made sense to upgrade to APs for your family. We're booked on a free dining BB for June so we had to book it as a package and everyone has to have the same tickets. There's no way everyone in our room for that trip needs an AP, so upgrading everyone before check-in isn't an option. If I could just upgrade my ticket ahead of time, I'd probably do it because between the 8 day trip in June and the 3-4 day trip in August and Memory Maker (which I will purchase for our June trip), I'd be at about the break-even point. I will probably fly down at least once to visit DD while she's there and I will also probably fly down to drive home with her as well. I can't remember if the Memory Maker kicks in immediately if you upgrade to an AP. If it does, I might seriously consider upgrading my ticket to an AP. I don't want to miss out on any days (or even hours) of Memory Maker (some of my favorite pics from the last trip were taken within the first 10 minutes we were at our first park). I guess I should investigate that a bit....

How was her experience at costuming? Did she have trouble finding it and getting all the pieces for her costume?

MM does kick in immediately when you upgrade to an AP. You'd also get the AP discounts (which are very similar to CM discounts) before she begins.

I think it was exhausting. She was also only able to get one costume because apparently, they didn't have much in her size. She was going to check back today but she's already home and headed to a park so Idk if she did.
