The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

DW is on board, she doesn't want to get rid of me...at least not until after the Dismeet. Kidding. So we will make some dietary adjustments, got a mountain bike coming that I will take to work and ride on my lunch time (weather pending.)
I know tigger was up there picking on me but salads, have never been my thing. I will make it work.
Always something with the trailers, hope to get a chance to see it later this year.

Getting a ride in will do a lot. I have a stationary at home and gym at work. But I love the wind in my face and I do ride when I get home in the warmer months. I think I might try to load it up for a ride at work. I work right next to the WO&D trail, and right now I have no interest in taking a walk down it in the rain, but a ride towards Tysons and back might be nice.

In other news, meet Ellie our soon to be new addition!!! The pink collar is Maggie, a friends claimed them.

She is actually part of our wedding gift (after we agreed on it.) . These pups were born on our wedding day 12/28/2019. Friends where already going to get Maggie, and when they send us pictures back on our honeymoon. We thought the pups are adorable and after the wedding chaos calmed down we would work with finding a new pup from a local rescue. So John and Lisa offered to claim one for us and we got pick of the litter. We are still considering rescuing another pup because 2 minpins totaling 20lbs leaves some room in the truck for another under 40# pup LOL.

We are still working out details, but Lisa, Melissa and I may drive out on the 15th to go pick them up. They are just outside St. Louis in Dupo, IL. It will be a fun ride, though I mentioned taking depending on the weather, or we might just call our buddy at enterprise to rent a car for the trip. We are super excited (though our teenager has asked how long we have to wait to get a 'real' dog. I guess the ones smaller then her 17# cat doesn't count?

Fond memories.
I'll bet by July, you will be saying "what Suburban"... :)
I kind of disagree, Teamubr. When I sold our 1991 GMC Suburban (last year of the big models) in 2008 she had over 212,000 miles on her. Bought her new in 1991 for our military move to AK. She NEVER let us down, NEVER got stranded. Took her to Guam for another military move, then lived in Colorado and went over many, many high altitude 4x4 mountain passes. I remember both boys standing on the running boards as we topped Tin Cup pass. Sure miss having her in the stable. Our 2018 GMC Dually is a terrific pickup with the diesel power train. Plan to keep this one for just as long, making memories every day!

Mallory is doing better today. Eating her food and lapping up the chicken water. Not at all interested in regular water but she is doing the main four quite well. Sparkle is a bit back. Still waiting on the wound cultures but seems better today.

plus bert went to work today so we should be good for dinner on Saturday.

Glad things are looking up, Kris. I think you have trained Mal to prefer chicken water. I can't blame her. :)

I had a dinner meeting at work and found a box on the table when I got home. I thought it was a mass air flow sensor I ordered for one of the cars.

Nope! It's our Magic Bands for our April trip!

Great to hear Malory is getting some sparkle back! I hope she continues to improve for you!

I am a bit envious about your April trip. Mostly because we do not have one booked yet!!!! We are looking to see if we can fit one in for 2020, but it might just have to wait.

For my medical professionals, finally heard from vet. The MRSI is still there. Now it is resistant to TMS. Moving to Chloramphenicol 1gm - 3 times a day. Looks pretty ugly. She says we need to wear gloves when handling the medication. i am calling tomorrow, see if I can get the meds from the vet or I have to use chewy.com. vet is also consulting a specialist for a topical treatment.

she does seem better but definitely is not. Trying to keep my head up.

@garneska How has the change in meds gone with Mal? She responding well to it all?

We leave this weekend to get our new Ellie. We get pictures regularly and can't wait to get her home. I am still trying to decide if I take I70 or I64 out there, and both have their advantage and disadvantage. I am also thinking I68 to I79, then I70 as a possible too. I see no reason to go through PA tolls to get there as thats just too far north. I guess I will just see what routes we get once I load it in on our way out the door.

@jbrostek thanks for asking. We just got the new meds yesterday, had to order them from Chewy. She has had three rounds so far. She seems ok, but i dont think i can call it a win yet. The vet says this should have less side effects for her. She was concerned about this medication because of the human side effects of handling the medication. i have to wear gloves. I happen to be home from work today so it was easy to give her meds at lunch. i will need to come home at lunch time to give her one dose of meds. It is a 3 times a day dosing so that is a bit difficult but hopefully i can adapt. She will still get her other meds after meals. She is funny though. With me home she has slept all day, as expected, but in the evenings, she barks. She wants someone to come play, pet or lay with her. Funny how she knows the difference between work time and evening time. I do think she misses going to the market on Saturday. Unfortunately with all the rain she has not gotten much outside time and i think she misses it. We are finally in a break but now it will be cold.

We can't figure out if she is having kidney failure though. She is peeing a lot. A lot more than normal for her. I just can't figure out if it is her kidneys or the fact that she loves chicken water and is probably getting a lot more water than she used to.

@jbrostek as for driving i would ask google she does usually know the best way, unless you are in an RV then i don't always trust her.

Likely its the increased fluid intake Kris. Typically, with humans anyway, kidney failure usually equals less urine output. I would assume the same in dogs.

Keep us up to date.

Thanks Michael. I too kind of think it is more related to the amount of water she is drinking now. I am trying not to limit her even if it is chicken water. She still absolutely refuses regular water. We even pour regular water in her dish after she finishes chicken water, and she will take one lick and that is it.

Yes when ours went in to kidney failure because of the lyme disease, she had less urine output. And when it got really bad like really close to the end her breath smelled.

Ok, for those of us in the northern part of the country who are battling snow and cold (and those in the south battling rain) and about to lose our minds, perhaps we could try something to take our minds off of it. I was going through some stuff from my folks house and found this.

Good luck MacGyvering something better for Mal!!

We been back and forth about leaving tonight so we can get a head start. Way too much stress on everything thinking about it all. Though if we could make progress home we could get back earlier mostly thanks to a new twist. The twist is now the girl's father says he has a commitment Sunday evening and cannot take them to church and CCD. We are kind of used to this as its clear he's never left that young and social stage. Though this weekend it's annoying as we call friends to see if we can get them to and from CCD, it's oldest confirmation year we don't want her missing too much. I am sure we will figure it out and I am venting, though sometimes I want to say "Just dad up already and sacrifice your social life a little!"
