News Round Up 2020

I've loved having access to ~almost~ all of the MCU films (minus Netflix contracts and the Spider-Man movies). I am pumped for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki!

It is weird already having a ton of the Disney films. I have to get in the habit of NOT buying them. Only if I really love them or if they are cheap on Black Friday! 🤣

It’s nice to not have to find the disc to put in though (apparently I’ve gotten lazy and spoiled 😂), except my kids have been on a Planes kick so naturally Planes and Planes Fire and Rescue are not there and I have to get the disc anyways. Major first world problems over here lol.

We were excited to see a reboot that didn't shoehorn kids into it to make it relevant to a younger audience. I feel like enough people who grew up with LM were excited about the reboot that public opinion might have some sway. I've seen and heard a lot about it from people who don't usually pay attention to Disney news.

It feels like Disney had plans for content that they later decided was too edgy. Hopefully LM makes it to Hulu or they find some common ground. Until then, there's plenty to keep us occupied!

I realized how I've gotten so used to streaming (and yes I'll say lazy lol) just last weekend.

I own Yours, Mine, and Ours (1968) on blu-ray....but then I noticed it was released on Amazon Prime. Instead of walking to behind the TV where the blu-ray disc is located at and putting it in the player I just launched Firestick and played it on there :rotfl:

The struggle!

Most of my recent purchases have a digital copy so I find myself flipping between Disney+, Movies Anywhere, and Netfilx way more than I would like. I started Toy Story 4 on Disney+ and went to finish it the next day and couldn't figure out why it wasn't picking up where I left off... then I realized I pulled it up in Movies Anywhere 🙄

Oh good I came in here to see if the Hilary Duff story was being talked about. So bummed, that and Imagineering Story were my top two most anticipated Disney+ watches. I really really hope we don’t lose it all together, but Hilary Duff publicly throwing shade is not promising. I think it could really use more original programming, or at least binge worthy series even if not original.

TBH we aren’t enjoying the service as much as I thought we’d be at this point. If we were on monthly not yearly we’d probably cancel it until something we wanted to watch was released.

I agree, I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by Disney+, and pretty consistently regret signing up for the D23 deal. They got me with brand loyalty, but I should have given it a free trial run and then decided to wait. It is nice to have all of these movies I love consolidated into one place, but something I’ve learned about myself lately is that my desire to watch an endless rotation of Disney movies is actually much lower than I thought. I’m still using Netflix and Hulu more than Disney+. I did decide to watch Splash the other day, but found the way they edited it to be very strange - it’s been censored for inappropriate content, namely animating in longer hair to cover more of Daryl Hannah in some shots. I’m sure I’ll watch some more of the animated films soon, but I’m not sure there’s much more appeal for me at this stage - good thing I’ve got 2 and a half more years for them to improve I guess

Im annoyed they seem to be wanting to follow the Girl Meets World model and target the show at kids/tweens.

I can’t see how the target audience wouldn’t be largely women who watched the show as tweens/teens. It’s the 30 somethings who care, not the kids 😂.

I might have you beat haha. I have all the Harry Potter movies recorded on DVR even though I own all of them. I would rather watch them from there and fast forward through commercials than get out the discs. It's not even streaming, just pure laziness haha

NEWS

New Disney Dining Plan Plus option is live:

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/disney-dining-plan-plus/

I tried pricing out a sample offer to compare to other plans. So did a week (6 nights) in June, staying at POP with 2 adults, 2 children (but one child is a Disney Adult)

Meal plan cost for trip:
- Quick Service: 1,145.92 (191.99/night)
- Regular Dining Plan: 1,587.04 (264.61/night)
- Dining Plan Plus: 1,912.93 (318.82/night)
- Deluxe Dining Plan: 2,426.88 (404.4/night)

So for that 2nd meal to be able to be a TS a family would pay $54.21 more per night vs regular dining plan

And here is summary of pricing:
477101

Omg we did this 2 years ago when they’d have the Potter weekends! We made fun of ourselves. 🤷🏻‍♀️
😁

Agreed. I refuse to buy Toy Story 4, so the kids will only get it on Disney+. My mom did buy Frozen II and I grabbed the digital code so it's on our Movies Anywhere and we don't have to wait for Disney+. Now that we've watched all of the good, original content (Mando, Imag Story, Encore! (I want to be on that show), and even HSMTMTS), the main person in our house using it is my almost 4 year old. He's obsessed with Bluey from Disney Junior right now. I have to say - we enjoy it, too. It's a funny kids' show from Australia. I introduced the kids to the old Disney Channel shows, but Bluey wins out. I went looking for Enchanted to show my daughter and it's not on there...had to dig out that DVD!

The previous Sun & Fun offer ran through the end of August, so interesting that it cuts off July 9 now. I wonder if they will drop another offer, such as free dining, later that includes Aug through late fall.
