I wasn’t addressing budget cuts, I was addressing the pp’s statement about questioning the info coming from the gov’t. That is something citizens shoujd think about no matter what administration is in charge.

I think it's fair to question the government in varying levels based on actions they take in regards to specific situations.

Unfortunately this is highly inaccurate. Flu kills about 0.1% of the infected and up to around 0.5% for really bad strains. COVID-19 is currently at 2%, so it is many times more deadly than the flu.
No. The flu will kill more total. Even the CDC says the flu is more deadly. The 2 % you note is in China. That will come way down in western nations due to much better healthcare.

Not according to my doctor today. Worry more about avoiding the seasonal flu. Wash your hands, avoid sick people, use a mask on planes.
Yep. Avoid all the unneeded hysteria. This will pass and more people will end up dying of regular flu. Yet it goes on talked about..being so bad. Heck one is a million times more likely to die from driving than ever dying from this....perspective is needed.

Wrong again.

Iran 388 infected 34 deaths = 8.76%
China 78,824 infected 2788 deaths = 3.53%
Italy 888 infected 21 deaths = 2.36%
Japan 228 infected 4 deaths = 1.75%
South Korea 2337 infected 13 deaths = 0.05%

We're not talking bird flu or ebola numbers here, but calling it less deadly that the flu is simply ignoring all of the data we have received to date, plus what the CDC is currently saying.

All of those numbers are incredibly low... even China. Bit of course it will be a higher death rate there.... Japan and South Korea are under 2%. Those numbers will come way down as time goes on. It does with any illness. The flu and a poster put up the numbers. Has way way more deaths. It isn’t even remotely close. And that won’t change.
And the CDC even said the flu is a greater mortality threat by a massive margin. This is just silly how people think it’s gonna wipe all these people out and it’s all nonsense. We live with this every year. It’s called the flu. And year after year. It is 1000 of times worse.
we just lost 50 people in this nation due to an auto accident since I ate supper. People need to relax. This isn’t all that.

And.... so far. 98-% of the people so far that is infected..... has a China connection. So for the rest of the free world. If you haven’t been to China. Or hang out with someone from China. Odds are. You won’t get this.....
The other 2% was in contact with the other 98. Not just some random infection.

I called my doctor again today to see if I could get a covid-19 shot. Once again I was told to call back later.

I also responded to you early on and you chose to ignore it, but the swine flu was 7-8% before actual real numbers started coming in and that was the US not China. You cant spout numbers but ignore others.
Is the coronavirus something we should ignore? No it's not but dont add to the hysteria and the overblown effect of the US media which always causes panic with everything negative in the world.

Am I just imagining that I saw a post where someone called the Princess cruise a Death Cruise? I wanted to show my wife the figures cited in that post and I can't find it now.

Florida is monitoring suspected cases

This might be my tipping point for cancelling.
This has been going on in multiple states with returning people but until people are positive test results nothing new. Think about this...how many people came to the US from China since late December when this all started before official travel bans? For all we know its already here and mixed in with the normal flu patients.

705 infections and 6 deaths as of now. A 0.8% mortality rate. Not something I want, but I’d imagine the demographics on the ship skewed older with comorbities.

I will say this for certain. One side here will be able to eventually say "I told you so". But only one side will take any joy in saying it.
