Anyone concerned about the Coronavirus in WDW ?

How likely and in what situation do you think WDW would close?

I understand that the ones that have closed in Asia are not run by Disney. Just wondering people's thoughts on this.
THANKS!

I think once an official agency announces that gatherings in large places should be avoided, Disney will most likely follow suit. HOWEVER they havent closed DLP yet with the same warnings there.

I think it's probable theme parks would close if they were following an official agency's announcement.
I don't "like" it, I just hit the like button because I agree.
We need an agree button.

China locked itself down. Do you expect the US to do the same?

It’s growth rate is about 1%, so this is just the beginning.

I’m not expecting anything, just wondering what might happen here vs how things played out in China

According to sources working on it here at CDC, Emory and private non-profit trying to develop drug .... it’s been in China a YEAR. They were keeping it as quiet as they could until a doctor got the info out. It’s surely been here for awhile. The plus is I think for many reasons many won’t be affected by it medically. We live different here.

Agree the concern is financial. It’s a shame it’s being so brushed off - def better ways to handle this to be proactive on many fronts.

This is the second time I've seen you say that it has been in China for "a year", yet all I've ever heard is that it was first identified in December. Where are you hearing "a year" from?

If we had government guaranteed healthcare and consistent paid sick leave in the US, people in lower earning jobs (like in the service industry) would have the ability to stay home and take care of themselves rather than working through it and spreading it for fear of losing their job, they'd be able to proactively go to the Dr because they have health insurance rather than waiting until they're at their sickest and they wouldn't generally be terrified of incurring thousands of dollars in medical bills even when the government is the entity mandating the testing and quarantine. Mock the CDC and gov healthcare all you want but our current system's failings will absolutely exacerbate any pandemic.

You have way more faith in the government than I do.
I don't want to be a guinea pig in the governments experiment of controlling the medical care of over 300 million people.

I’m thinking the same thing. Response has been far better in China and Europe than in the US.
Because your are more likely to catch it from surfaces than inhaling droplets. More likely to touch a rail, then touch your mouth, nose, eyes, etc.
China was welding people into buildings. Military blockades. And worse. We may never know the real death tolls.

This would have to get a lot worse before Parks close. Are we going to cancel or prohibit crowds to frequent sporting events and concerts? What would happen to MLB if there was a decision to limit crowds? As far as Disney goes, California would be a bad financial hit - but consider that WDW would be brutal with 4 parks, 2 water parks, DS, and so many onsite hotels I’ve lost count. Unless we’re cancelling music festivals, Six Flags (and all other amusement parks), shopping malls, etc. I can’t see this happening. And, if it does then you haven’t seen anything yet with regards to the stock market.

This isn't about having or not having faith the government. I'm just stating that when a country's healthcare is primarily tied to employment, uninsured people will avoid getting medical care until they absolutely have to. It's just a fact. And many of the people who don't have health insurance work in jobs with *lots* of contact with the public. Also, FYI, Medicare is currently a government healthcare program that exists!
Anyway, we are planning our first trip to WDW for the kids in April (a surprise trip for them) and so I am just trying to read as much as I can and just crossing fingers that the US can get it under control, although I'm admittedly not feeling very confident. I'm at least thankful that my husband and I and kids are not a particularly vulnerable population. Sigh.

I’ve already moved my 401k to stable income. I might start moving the rest soon. I’ll see what happens. Lots of irrationality in markets.

Look at it this way, 50% of the time you would have gotten the flu you won't if you have the flu shot. While we would all like it to be 100% cutting cases by 50% is huge because everyone that does not get it can't spread it. So you see a massive reduction in spread if people in the population have the shot.
Sure, I don't disagree. Assuming the flu that comes around is the one that you got vaccinated for. Which it often isn't. I'm not anti flu shot, but people should know it's not a guarantee.
