I'm kinda ticked at Disney. They shouldn't have stayed open as long as they did.

Don’t be mad at Disney. Be mad at the people who refuse to stay home. I have seen a lot of state officials saying that they are shutting everything down because people just won’t stay home. So they are removing the ability to go anywhere people can gather.

I am sure Disney was thinking that by doing it in phases they wouldn’t overwhelm the airports and it would be easier to get everyone out. But instead, people came IN. And now that Disney is closing, people are just shifting their vacations to the local beaches. They will continue to congregate in groups unless someone makes it illegal to do so, and enforces it.

I know it’s a bummer to cancel a trip. I had a vacation planned to start today, and I cancelled it. Cried for a couple days and ate a lot of chocolate, but it was the right thing to do. Sometimes doing the right thing is not the easy thing, but it needs to be done. I don’t know if I can reschedule because where I work we get a lot of vacation time, and most weeks are already spoken for. Double bummer. But I am still glad I cancelled.

Why are you just blaming wdw and not universal and sea world etc?
My guess is that it's simply in response to the photos of a packed full Main Street on the last night at WDW that prompted this particular thread, just as they prompted a whole mess of responses on Facebook & Twitter. If similar pictures had been posted of the other parks then people would be discussing those. :)

If any part of WDW or Disneyland is open, people will be there, in droves.
Pics of Disney Springs with crowds of people is the exact opposite of what we've been told to do, yet.....

I get it. People don't listen and think they are not affected and being "safe" and making adult decisions for themselves.
But.....come ON. This is not a drill. This is a real crisis.

I seriously can't believe Disney stayed open. I also can't believe they didn't shut down resorts sooner than they are.

I'm cranky and stressed over all of this like everyone else. I think Disney had an opportunity to be a leader and proactive about this. Folks are crazy for Cocoa Puff NUTS about Disney and show up no matter what. They know this. So why? Money? Seriously?

Rant over. Carry on. Be safe.
They should have stayed open.

I think places such as WDW have to give people a few days notice of closure. People are in transit to their vacations, people need a minute to figure out what exactly they are going to do. You can't just shut the parks and hotels and have people showing up with no place at all to go. Gotta give folks a minute to make plans.

I also think it is a lot easier to run a company from the outside than from the inside. I'm sure there are many moving parts to deal with that none of us have considered.

Put the blame on both Disney and the people.... A big portion of the country was closing down, and everyone was screaming about social distancing. There was no operational reason besides financial that Disney (and other parks) couldn't have closed at least the parks down sooner... they, like some other businesses were dragging their feet in hopes some news would come out that would allow them to remain open.

But even worse in my mind is everyone who ran to the parks to get a last visit in, thereby increasing their exposure and increasing the chance of spreading the virus everywhere. Same as when hurricanes hit and they all run to get there instead of staying away or evacuating, all for the sake of a day or two of low crowds... except in this case, instead of only risking their and their families lives, they are risking the lives of strangers. And on top of it all they deem themselves 'Heroic' for not being cautious and spending their money there to 'help the workers'.

Same with people all over who went out to crowded venues for normal weekend partying.... this thing will go on longer than it could have because people refuse to listen, which is why governments have had to issue mandatory closures.

Whatever your views are on the severity of the virus, and if your not worried about it...it's not just about you.

Interesting the very huge swings of opinions here. It illustrates how and why this crowd stuff happens.

Disney will take heat no matter what they do/did. It's human nature.
I'm also seeing pictures of spring break in Florida. Daytona/Miami/Clearwater Beach. Throngs of young people with the notion that closing down beaches at 5pm will be enough. Just plain stupid.

I think Disney fans in particular are particularly rabid in their obsession and their "right" to be there.
Some people being forced to cancel a vacation are acting like it's the end of their world as they know it. It's that minority of people who are the last to understand the severity of this pandemic.

I'm happy to see that the majority of people are level-headed and understand. They are frustrated, sure. But they also realize it's a vacation and schedules and finances and all that are secondary to saving lives.

Everyone is “ new” to this situation and making decisions on time, ahead of time or behind the times. We will see all sorts of decisions made by many different people that we agree or disagree with but at the end of the day we are learning from it and in the future hopefully learn from our mistakes. I think it is presumptuous of people to think they would make every decision perfectly, you’re human so you won’t. What I have learned from all this is that some people are not happy unless they are unhappy.

The swing of public opinion has changed drastically in a few days. We try hard to be very responsible. We have underlying risk factors in my family. Up to last Thursday, it still felt safe to fly to Disney. We were supposed to arrive yesterday. If Disney closed, we agreed we would just chill at SSR and maybe walk Disney Springs.

Flash forward to today - we are no longer allowing DS17 or DD18 to work at the local small cafe. Which is no longer allowed to have dine in clientele anyway. We are not allowing them to see friends. We are hunkering down at home.

So many changes in such a short amount of time.

Disney knew all the risks, ramifications and factors at the time they made their decision.

They chose to close Disneyland the next day but let WDW go for 3 days and Disney Springs and hotels even longer. That was a decision they made for financial and convenience considerations for WDW customers versus what virologist experts and politicians were saying.

The right thing, from a stop the spread of an unknown virus and safety, was to close all parks and Disney Springs last Friday or even sooner. And work to get people out of their hotels ASAP. Disney did not do that, they opted to make a few more dollars and make the closure at WDW a bit more palatable to their customers. Only time will tell what that decision (made over days of meetings with Senior Staff, virologists, lawyers and the board) will mean.

For those in defense all of things Disney, my kids elementary school was shut down before Disney. Last day was last Thursday. The local Superintendent made the decision he said as an overabundance of caution and safety for everyone and because of what the CDC, state of KY and Federal government were telling him.

Should Disney have made a decision based on an overabundance of caution or convenience or both. Everyone has their own opinion. And again only time will tell more about what was the right thing to do.

I would dare say it's easier to close the schools than to close such a large resort. "Get people out of the hotels ASAP"? Where are they supposed to go? Could they all get flights (those that need them obviously) easily? Or get them out of the hotels and they could just go crash at MCO for a couple of days? Yea, that sounds like that would help control the virus.

As far as schools... last day was last Thursday? Most Ky schools had their last day on Friday. Your Superintendent wasn't that far ahead of the curve.

... and schedules and finances and all that are secondary to saving lives.

Well, with that argument all driving in vehicles should immediately cease to save the lives of so many tens of thousands that die needlessly each year.

Again Disney could of made a decision based on convenience or an abundance of caution and safety of mankind. They closed Disneyland in one day but not WDW or even Disney Springs, knowing they have worldwide travelers. Who by the way could of stayed at their hotels until they got flights out.

Travelers spread out in MCO was not anyone's suggestion, I guess yours but your alone. Quarantining in your hotel until you could leave or not traveling at all that late in the week was what most responsible people chose to do.

In regards to MY kids school no need to infer I am a liar. Friday the 13th was a scheduled in service day off. If it wasn't they would not have gone that day either per the Principal. Again a school superintendent and the Governor of KY chose to put people's health and safety first during a time we are all dealing with an unknown virus, and Disney didn't, at least WDW didn't or they would of shut down Friday like Disneyland or sooner.

You said "work to get people out of the hotels ASAP". So where would the people go? Oh, they can stay in the hotels until flight arrangements are made? Isn't that what was being done?

I never called you a liar. I totally believe your last day of classes was last Thursday. You tried to make your Super out to be a hero for closing schools early. But most Ky schools had their last day on the 13th. My point was just your Super wasn't "bucking the trend" or "going out on his own". He beat all the other schools by one day. And now that you say you had an day off already scheduled for the 13th, it's really not that impressive that your Super closed schools after the 12th.
