So I just got DD's severance check. She isn't here as she (stupidly) decided to go back to her college town. Is there any way (short of mailing her the check) for me to deposit it into her account?

Can she do an app deposit into her bank? You could send her a front and back picture (and forge her name and account information onto it).

edit: I should have read first, responded later, haha.…same idea as several others! I've been messing with money for years trying to get it to other places when the Venmo's, Paypals didn't yet exist.

If you need to go old school you can do what my mom did when I was in college. The bank should still have the generic deposit slips that you write the acct info on. It does take a trip to the bank but you could prob ask for the slip at the drive thru and fill it out.

The app would be quicker but I also know not everyone is comfortable doing that.

What is the best Peer to Peer app to exchange money between friends (or maybe for business) that is secure, popular, and easy?
With this Stay at Home order, I'm thinking I may need to get into one of theses apps.
I guess some of the choices are PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, others? I have no experience with any of these.
What are the cool kids using these days?
Venmo is pretty ubiquitous and is very easy to use.
I’ve used PayPal for years and years ... PayPal is good to have just because it’s so old and ubiquitous.
I’ve started using Zelle a lot recently though, since I bank with Chase ... it’s so much easier with Zelle.
I love Venmo. My ex and I use it and I use it with siblings when we chip in for presents for my parents.
Cash app and Apple Pay.
I think the cool kids use Venmo. I can see my DDs activities I think because I friended them on there. I have paid or been paid by my mom, my sisters, my brother etc. I can't see their activity. Actually, if I click on them I can see who they paid or were paid, but not the amount. I think you would have to search that person out to see their stuff because I am sure I have plenty of people in my contacts that use it but I don't see them.
I just recently used Zelle ... Chase to Chase but the money was moved ... instantly.
I think it depends on what the person you are paying already has. I have Venmo, Zelle, Paypal, and Cash app.
My friend that works in the banking industry prefers to use Zelle
I use PP ... PP is free to pay friends with a linked checking acct. Only charge if you pay friends with CC.
...My daughter and most of her friends use Venmo. No issues.
I have been using PP friends and family for years, but just recently got Venmo since my 15 yo son did some yard work for neighbors ...
So I’ve read a few articles about how Zelle is not as secure as the other apps out there. BIL is in IT and doesn’t trust it...
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/22/business/zelle-banks-fraud.html
I use Venmo as well. [Your friends can see your transactions, unless you change privacy settings]
I can see anyone in my contacts who isn’t set to private. I don’t have to search for them or “friend” them on Venmo. I even see people that I have never sent or received money from. You are correct that no amounts are shown.
DH has used Zelle in the past - also very easy.
I use PayPal and they do not have any of my bank details. They keep asking me to link a bank account - but I just ignore them and use the account for payments and receipts from RMN.
I've used PayPal for years and have always had it attached to my 'PayPal only' bank account...
.
.
Thank you for the tremendous response on Peer to Peer apps!

Summary of the results
:
Code:
P2P App # Users Comments
Venmo 7 Your phone & Facebook contacts can see transactions (not the amount), unless you increase privacy settings
PayPal 6 Free if you use linked bank account (but not if you use a CC); hsmamato2 suggests a "PayPal-only" bank account
Zelle 5 While Zelle is quite popular in the banking industry, must have correct contact info for a known & trusted person
Cash App 2
Apple Pay 1
These are only for exchanges with known & trusted peers, and don't carry credit card safeguards (see CyndiLouWho's article link)

Thank you all! I guess amcc is right that it depends what the other person has.
In my little "poll" though, it looks like Venmo is quite popular (and also, with the cool kids, meaning it should be around a while).
I know PayPal has fees to transfer money (I think the sender pays the fee?)
Are the other app like that too (have fees to use)?

PayPal is free for friends (might not be the right wording), if it comes from a linked bank account. Using a credit card charges a fee. My DS21 and I send money back and forth this way all the time.

So for clarification, if I sign in as her in the bank app, I will be able to deposit it? I would still have to forge her signature. I'm very uncomfortable doing that. In fact, all your wonderful suggestions (thank you so much) reqire me to sign for her. Will the deposit on the app work without a signature?

I can't remember if you have NFCU or not. But if you do, you can transfer money to other members from the transfer option. And there may be other ways in there also. Seems to me there are. Checking my account yes you can send money to other accounts at other banks.

Yes I do have NFCU, and I have used it to move money to another credit union (which is fee-free, but takes a few days). Thanks!

I believe they now ask for ID even for deposits, and the person depositing the check has to be on the account.

I finally got an explanation on that. If their system generates a receipt that includes the account balance, they don't like revealing that to a different person. Some banks have allowed me to deposit into another's account without getting a receipt.
Another idea is to write For Deposit Only Account [number], and put it in the overnight drop box.

Been trying to get into The Office... just a bit too cringe-y for me I think.

Definitely no Tiger King here.

My mom has set her Blu Ray copy of the Downton Abbey movie in her garage for me so I will try to remember to pick it up tomorrow morning.

Still in limbo as to when I will see my kids again... they've been at their dad's since we are kind of up in the air about what my older step son is doing. I feel terrible for my husband but there is a part of me that will be very grateful when he has left to go to his new job. Obviously we are grateful he still HAS a new job... apparently they're already paying him! I believe his official start date is April 20 and he is driving so I suppose he'd better get a move on.

Husband made me promise I'd try harder next week to make sure we get the chance to go for a ride :lovestruc
The cringe is part of what makes it great.

Also, I have a joint account with her. Can I just sign my name and put it in the joint account even though it is made out to her?

I have signed my kids' names to checks to deposit into their accounts, with their blessing. Deposit with a deposit slip at the drive-thru. No ID needed here.

I believe they now ask for ID even for deposits, and the person depositing the check has to be on the account.
I think it depends on the bank. My DD writes a check to their landlords and deposits it directly in their bank account with no endorsement on the back. This is in San Francisco, and that monthly check is over $6500.

That seems extreme. I've never been asked for id when making a dep.

As others said just put for dep only and the acct number. I used to do this all the time and technically it's what most biz do with their check stamp.

Also, I have a joint account with her. Can I just sign my name and put it in the joint account even though it is made out to her?
I was able to do that at NFCU. I actually did it in branch and didn't sign, but since I was on the acct I was able to manage my son's money.

So in CC related news, my house needs to be painted and my deck needs to be re-stained (can't believe I've been in this house seven years--it really has been my fresh start). I hate spending money now but I'm also not a big fan of deferred maintenance. I just got a call from a company I have used in the past about a special they are running because work is slow so I'm getting an estimate. The one thing I like about them is I have terrible hardboard siding (it's what they used hear before hardiplank and it's one small step up from cardboard) and they can replace that if they find bad pieces whereas a regular painter wouldn't be able to. And they take credit cards.

I also need to take four cedar trees down and have the stumps ground, but that may need to wait. They're not going to fall down. Just a bit unsightly.
We have to do leaking sky lights and the subsequent drywall damage. Throw in a window or two as well.

Anyone have experience getting a refund from Frontier if flight times change? Received email today that our June flight down changed by 4 hours and home by 6 hours. We are fairly certain our trip won’t happen and I’ve been holding out hope that they’d cancel but is 4 hours difference enough for them to refund my money? I’ve tried searching for their policy but can’t find it...

That happened to me last year and they offered a voucher but obviously it's different now.

That seems extreme. I've never been asked for id when making a dep.

I was in line at BoA and a lady was trying to deposit money into her grandchild's account for a Christmas present. The teller told her they could make an exception and let her, but next time she wouldn't be able to.

I have personally been asked either for my ID or to swipe my debit card when making a deposit.
