UPDATED 01/14/20 - The FW DISMeet 2020-See Post #283 For Latest News and Updates

This morning my 180-day window opened.

I signed up for lunch at Beaches & Cream (ride the gondolas after), Chef Art Smith Homecoming (lunch at Disney Springs), and Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch) and The Plaza (dinner) on our MK day (Wednesday).

Not as critical to book at this point is the Grand Floridian Cafe (I like their brunch approach on the menu). Also want to hit Geyser Point (counter service and excuse to hang at Wilderness Lodge), and I want to get the Tonga Toast for breakfast some morning at Captain Cook's (counter service at the Poly and excuse to hang there).

The web and app version of dining reservations weren't working this morning (it would show available times and when you clicked one, the bottom fell out). So a nice young man made the ADR over the phone after only a 15 minute wait.

Okay, I'm good for a while till the next Disney deadline rolls up on the calendar (180 day window for the Feb 2021 trip) in August.

Bama Ed

PS - got a tentative trip in 2022 blocked out on the calendar (not booked yet obviously) and for each (October, 2021, 2022) I have 3 dates for booking windows opening: (Lake Louisa pre-night, 180 day ADR, 60 day FP). So that's nine items and today was only #2.

So we have kind of set up our week for October, Sunday evening after arriving headed to MK and dinner at The Diamond Horseshoe. Monday is lunch at Coral Reef and back to the campsite. Tuesday is breakfast at Hollywood and Vine, Wednesday is Tusker house for breakfast, Thursday is Dinner at Crystal Palace and the Halloween Party. Friday night, something we have never done before the 515 showing Spirit of Aloha Dinner. And most likely TE for breakfast Sat morning before we leave.

Please let me know if anyone wants to join us for any of these:

Thinking Hoop Dee Doo on Saturday night at 4:00 or 6:15
Trails End Brunch - Sunday 10/11 8:30A
Oga's Cantina - Sunday 10/11 11:00A
Chef Art Smith's Homecoming - Sunday 10/11 4:00P
Liberty Tree - Tuesday 10/13 11:00A
MNSSHP - Thursday

It's just Josie & I so if anyone would like to join, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll add you in for any I can!

I believe Monday is the designated Dismeet day and potluck eating. Personally I'm thinking around 3ish? It'll get dark around 730 or so. What you guys think?

Also, how about inviting some of the Dis podcast folks like Pete?

Maybe do something for Give Kids the World as a means to have them come by.

I think a GKTW donation of some kind would be appropriate. It has been a staple of past DISMeets over the years.

What would ya'll think about a silent auction also during the Monday event? Everybody donate a Disney or FW item to the auction and suggest the minimum bid. That way we can unload some of our stuff and come home with new stuff. The auction money could be put with the bucket money for GKTW. We will have to discuss cash only or how to collect auction money if we choose to do one.

Arc, you are planning a TE brunch at 830a and Oga's Cantina 2.5 hours later on the same day? Wow.

Are we still up for a Monorail crawl at some point that week? That's one of those things that can be done on short notice with no ADR fixed date/time required....

Bama Ed

It would be fun to have Pete and the DIS Pod group swing by. And I'm in for a GKTW fund raiser.

Tell me more about the Monorail crawl idea.

I found some info and I can setup a first giving page for GKTW. I will look into getting it setup and how to deal with it. We can still do a silent auction etc, but if i set up a page those of us lazy people (myself) can just donate that way. Plus it can be done a head of time. thoughts??

Yes monorail crawl :).

Tell me more about the Monorail crawl idea.

Well .....

The idea is, one evening, take a boat and start making the rounds of the Contemp, Poly, and GrandF enjoying an (overpriced) adult beverage at each one.

We could even start with cocktails at our loop beforehand.

And finish (freewheeling here) with a cocktail at Geyser Point/WL to watch the MK fireworks and/or EWP.

All while in the jovial company of our fellow DISMeet folks who want to attend.

I'm not too picky about having to do high-end bars at our stops (where a choice exists) but even the bars at some of the restaurants would be okay. For example Ohana's at the Poly and not Trader Sam's. Or we could do Sam's but the high end places can get pricy. Number of people is a driver in this.

Never done this, always wanted to.

Bama Ed

PS - personally I am underwhelmed by Crockett's Tavern as a proper watering hole but we could have a ceremonial swig on the porch at some point.

Ok i setup a fundraising page. i am not going to send out the link yet. I did two but i think we will use the one with GKTW. I did one through First Giving, which is a bit easier but they take 7.5% and that seemed high to me. So then I went directly to GKTW and i could setup a fundraising page on their site. I am not seeing anywhere about fees, though i am sure there is a credit card processing fee. i am assuming since it is their site no additional fees. Site is not so user friendly but at this point i am expecting it will be the group only trying to reach it.

Using their own site capability (even if it is a little klunkier to use) is probably better for both us and GKTW, Kris. GKTW is well known for their transparency and low overhead (more money for the kids and less spent on admin and fundraising) and it's easier for us to give and get the money to them.

Thanks for your leadership. We can share the link closer to time.

We will be at the Halloween Party on Thursday. Think they will let me in as a Tusken Raider ??

I like it. Let's pick an evening and go for it. I really liked Geyser Point. The location on the lake and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

And I have had a drink from Crockett's once. That was enough. I seem to end up at CR in the Outer Rim bar. I like the view over Bay Lake and the bartenders have always been fun.

I am snooty, if we can make it to the bar at Ca grille it’s better. I will say I am not a novice to the monorail crawl, last time we did not have a problem getting to the bar but it all depends on timing. Agree starting at WL is better than Crocket’s or we start at the loop.

I was afraid you would say that, Kris, knowing your affinity for CAG (will tiggerdad's overalls pass the CAG dress code-would Security let him on the elevator)? He can turn his Skoal ball cap around to face the front if he HAS to (but there will be all the drama that goes with that  )

And actually my hypothetical itinerary was to END the crawl at Geyser (note the word FINISH - difficult for PSU "graduates").

Yes you're snooty but that's why we like you (and Bert and his mom). :duck:

Bama Ed

PS - did I miss any toes to step on? So many and so little time....:dance3:

What the!? Good Lord man! A bit of a punch in the gut there don't you think? Why don't I just hop in the truck and ride over to T-Town where you can make a short video of you slapping me across the face and post it on the Dis!? What the heck?

I mean really!?

Skoal!?

I'll have you know I chew Red Man only, just like dear grandma taught me.

Skoal? A Skoal hat on my cranium!? Maybe laying it on the ground to catch the dripping engine oil from my old Massey Ferguson tractor, but not on my head.

I'll have all of you know I've been to the bar at CAG, so yes they did let me on the elevator and I didn't have to turn the hat around either. Where I got in trouble was when I blew the gasket when the bartender didn't have Old Milwaukee and instead tried to serve me some uppidy beer from GERMANY.

You're right and I was wrong tiggerdad. I do humbly apologize.

And you're the guy who has stayed at the Grand Floridian recently.

Since you've been to CAG before if we end up there, I'll say "I'll have whatever he's having". :drinking1

Bama Ed

PS - what are the chances I can get a PBR there?

I feel left out.

And I've never been allowed up in the elevator. It could have been because Ian was with me, but I think it is because I'm from Southern Illinois. It is very similar to LA....

Lower Alabama, that is. :lmao:

Crawl I am in :)

GKTW, however you all want to do it. I'm down for silent auction as well. Whatever you guys want to do, we'll help any way we can!

Not sure how well a crawl will go with two kids tagging along. We may have to pass on it.
