Have supermarkets started limiting meat by you?

We've had limits on meat for almost 2 months. Truthfully though I haven't bought meat in more than a week so I'm not sure if it's still in place.

It has been that way for a while, though I expect it is going to get worse with the meat packing shutdowns. What we've had is per-item limits - 2 hamburger, 2 chicken breast, etc. - but I've heard some places are going to category limits so you can only get 5 packages of any type of fresh meat, and I think that's going to be coming to my area before too long. Last weekend, I went to three stores and didn't find a single package of hamburger, and now the store closest to me has it but at more than twice the price I'd normally pay.

Still no toilet paper or cleaning wipes, either.

Costco today had limits of 3 packages of fresh meats (chicken, pork and/or beef). Previous trips, they would have limits of one package of any particular item, but not limits on total packages.

Walmart pick-up only allows for one package of chicken as of this week.

Market Basket was allowing 2 pkgs of chicken, 2 beef, 2 pork.

Yes, our Shaw's and Market Basket have been limiting chicken to 2 packs and beef to 2 packs for at least a month. Not much chicken in Market Basket on Tuesday but every time we go different items are out of stock or on low inventory.

Last Saturday I went to my local Market Basket and there were no limits. (had been in the past on sugar and flour) But, there has been no chicken for the last 3 weeks except for legs. So yesterday I went to Shaws and got a full chicken, boneless breasts and boned breasts. They had almost no burger meat. With 3 men at home, food goes fast. I am trying to keep the freezer full since we don't know what's coming up next. I just get what I can!
The rules change so quickly!
MB had their limits of 2 of each type of meat today.
But they had a great selection at 8am (Concord, NH).

Right now around here, the only meat that is readily available is lamb, because it is so high-priced that there is only a tiny market for it. Every other variety of raw meat is flying out of the cases, even with the limits (which have been in place since mid-March.) Processed meats have been fairly widely available until this week, but those are starting to get scarce as well.

Luckily we happen to like fish and eat a lot of it; it is still plentiful, although this far north, it's mostly frozen.

PS: I should note that we can still get organ meats pretty easily at this point. I happen to like them, as does DD, but DH hates organ meats. I expect that supply to dry up pretty soon, though, with so many packing plants closed.

We manage to limit our shopping to every two weeks. First Sam's Club, then to Von's. Middle of March, they (either one) had no paper towels or toilet paper. Milk at Sam's was limited to 1. 2 weeks later, no limit on milk. And they had toilet paper - 1 mega package (6 9 roll packs). But no limit on meat/chicken. By mid April, they had paper towels (limit 1 12 roll package), but no TP. Meat/chicken was 1 each (most were 4 -5 lbs).

This last week, they had both paper towels & TP (limit 1). Still limit of one on meat/chicken, but there was no chicken the day we went.

And, of course, there's been absolutely NO wipes, bleach, sanitizer. I lucked out on a 8 oz bottle of sanitizer at Albertson's one week, and my husband found 1 gallon bleach at Home Depot.

The only meat limits I've seen are at Costco, and that only started after the Tyson/JBS fiasco. I went to (regular) Walmart yesterday for the first time since all of this started and didn't see any limits on meat, And if there was less than usual then it wasn't much less. They even had several pork products. Chops, ribs, tenderloin, etc. I was actually surprised to see this. Not only because of the plants shutting down, but to add insult to injury I had read a few days ago that a truck near here that was carrying 40k pounds of pork caught fire! My other store, Winco, seemed to be pretty well-stocked too. The only time I've seen the meat section completely decimated was at Super Walmart back in March when this all started, but then entire stores were being decimated back then.

The new oddly elusive product for me seems to be seasoned bread crumbs (not Italian, not panko, just regular seasoned). I have no idea what that's all about.

No limits at my Target store here but stock is hit and miss. (Haven't been to Walmart, so no idea there.) I'm planning on working some more squash and mushrooms into the diet and just go very light on the meat for a while.

We have been lucky with toilet paper lately and I have even managed to get some disinfecting wipes. This is in central Massachusetts. What state are you in Colleen? I hope it gets better and not worse for your area!

I live in the far north area of the Dallas metroplex and had no problem getting meat yesterday. Pork was a little low but everything else was fine. The only thing I couldn't find yesterday was cornmeal. Went to two stores and couldn't find any. Weird.
I live in the same general area and meat is well stocked. That said, I've been stocking our deep freeze just in case.

Went to the store yesterday and was going to buy hamburger meat to make dinner for the boys. I wanted to get three 1lb packages but they had a limit of 1 item each so I bought the 5lb package instead. Limiting didn't work too good on me. Lol

Some of the stores around here (well, the ones I go to) in the Pittsburgh area have started. They did limit toilet paper after a couple weeks. Meat they really didn't, but within the last few weeks most of the stores are starting to. I don't think Walmart has been, but giant eagle and shop n save have.

I haven't been able to find disinfecting wipes, but I was talking about it the other day and my neighbor couldn't either. He was in the store a couple days later and got a pack with 3 or 4 canisters in it. He gave us one which was nice. Today, there was a lady pushing a buggy with about 5 packages, and none on the shelves. I wasn't going to buy them anyway, but I just don't get people. This is why they should limit most things. This lady was taking way more than she needs, and taking away from people that could use them. I just think its funny how different people are. We would've never known my neighbor got some, but he decided to share since he did. Then you have some lady taking 5.

I'm in a small town in Michigan. I'm going to the "big" supermarket (Meijer), about 20 miles up the road, to do my weekly shopping tomorrow so hopefully things will be better there. Throughout this whole thing, the big chains seem to be having much less trouble with stock levels than the independent groceries in our town.

I usually go to Kroger and they have been limiting for awhile because people act like a pack of wolves.

Sams club also has had limits early on as well.

I find myself wishing I had a deep freezer. Although I am shocked at how much I can fit in my regular bottom drawer freezer.

I know. I cannot believe how much I have managed to cram in my bottom drawer as well. I keep saying I have a small freezer but I guess I don’t. Before this pandemic, dh and I thought we were well on our way to empty nest. Now we have two out of three home with the third planning to move home June 1. I’m now thinking it would be kind of nice to have that extra chest freezer.

Maybe she was planning to sell them on ebay! I saw a 3 pack on there yesterday, with a price of $255, plus $30 shipping!!! I reported it for price gouging, and it had been removed the next time I signed on. Some people just don't care :( We have had none in our stores in a month and a half, and when they did, it was a limit of 1 per family (and this was in Walmart)
