Disney announces that all character meals are temporarily suspended

Soooo....
No parades
No fireworks
No character interactions
No character meals
I’ve heard no entertainment...not sure if that means no shows (FOTLK, VLM, castle show) no street performers? (Main Street and Hollywood) No music groups at World Showcase and AK?

I don’t think it’s a nail in a coffin for Disney at all. I think they are going to see that they can be Six Flags and charge the same prices and still be successful.

I’m thinking if the character dining isn’t back by our trip next year, I may have to push it out to 2022 😕. We were really excited to do the Bon voyage breakfast with our daughter as she’s a huge Rapunzel and Ariel fan

I think it will be a nail in the coffin for lots of families with young children. No character interaction and no character meals. Let's either go to Universal or someplace other than Florida.

Family of a 5 and 3 year old. Not a nail in the coffin for us at all. We do like characters but thats maybe 10-15% total of what we love about Disney.

You assume this will end. Interesting.

Will the virus become endemic and we have to live with it like other seasonal illnesses. Most likely.

Will the current state of restrictions go away as time passes. 100%.

do you think that restaurants that normally have character meals will be closed, or will they just adjust the price of the meals to reflect the fact there are no character interactions? Take Garden Grill for instance. Served family style already and a good restaurant for social distancing. Would they just adjust the price of the meal or keep restaurant closed altogether?

This is the part to be concerned about. As the restrictions last until 2021 and things slowly normalize Disney will look at their financial reporting and be pretty pleased at the expense savings by not having fireworks, performers, shows, etc. How quickly will they bring it back?

It'll be dependent upon competition from Universal/other parks. Typically as things are going good and the economy is rolling companies are highly competitive in attracting customers as people have more discretionary income. With everything going on and the millions that will remain unemployed throughout 2020/2021 will an "arms race" remain in the theme park industry?

I've had the same thoughts about GG. It seems excellently set up for social distancing and still having a compelling setting even without characters.
I'm also just curious if characters could still come by and wave, but we can't get up to stand next to them for photos. I would be happy to listen to an explanation why they're in more danger than the waitperson bringing me my food. Is it just that the wait staff will be in masks and it would be difficult to wear a mask in an already sweltering costume? I'm genuinely curious. Wait staff, people at the gates as we enter the parks, people checking seat belts and lap bars on rides seem like they will all have to come closer than six feet to people.

I am sorry if this was asked somewhere. But will the restaurants be open but with no characters (Chef Mickeys, Storybook, 1900 Fare etc) or completely closed?

I don’t think it’s been officially announced yet.

Perhaps Disney can get creative and have the characters out but not accessible. For example, have them wave from the MK train station periodically, start up the old character bus that used to run through Epcot and expand that to the other parks a few times a day. If there is no published schedule for these, there shouldn't be a problem with crowds.

That’s what they are doing at Shanghai. I expect something similar at WDW.

All pandemics end. The Spanish Flu lead to the Roaring 20’s. The bubonic plague killed 1/3 of people on earth and lead to a new era of labor.

As soon as they are able to, Disney will go back to selling $5 worth of food for $60 by throwing in a person dressed as a mouse.
