I give up - going to pack it in for now

We're hoping for 2021 too. I'm not booking anything until I see how things play out over the next 6 months or so.

and I fera, than even by then thing will not be the same. What about Fireworks, parades, meet and greets. It will be catchy if we get full prized and without those things.

We are still booked for December 9-16. In a perfect storm of weird circumstances, we booked right before I received a job offer at the end of last year. Then the agency promptly went into a hiring freeze before my onboarding. Now, they are underfunded and possibly about to furlough current employees. :( So if I do (fingers crossed) still have the opportunity to start at some point this year, I won't have enough vacation time built up to go. If I am not able to start the job this year, we may still decide to go on the trip.

My main concern is safety. Beyond that, as long as the parks are all open (though with shows and such cancelled), it's worth it for us to go. We were initially debating on booking January 2020 vs. December 2020. Now I'm kicking myself that we didn't just go in January when we had the opportunity!! Oh well. Hopefully we will get there at some point in the next two years.

I disagree, as I think it also plays into restaurant capacity quite a lot.

I don't feel like it will effect it due to everyone still booking and eating at places regardless of how it's paid for. Not to mention "supposedly" promo guests are going to get priority re-booking. Which possibly could include reservations. Anyhow we have to make reservations and eat still and will most likely still go to the same places which would be booked in advance. So using the dining plan should be a non issue in the end.

But ya regardless I am depressed about it like you due to the money savings. The 35% didn't do much compensating money wise.

If we haven't seen any improvement by then, I'll just continue to postpone the trip until I'm comfortable with the price/experience.

Same here, a ton of magic has been lost. Once re-bookings open we will probably "take a guess" on when things might be better. I don't need everything normal to go, even masks are OK. But there isn't really a reason to rush in right now until we see how everything works out.

Right now we're booked for 9/25-10/2 but I honestly don't think it's going to happen. I so desperately want to hear that things are going to be close to normal but I know they won't be. We go every 2-3 years so I've been looking forward to this for quite awhile but it's a very expensive risk to take. Now they're cancelling all dining ADR's and no fast passes.
My daughter just graduated college and got a teaching job in Florida, and an apartment 15 minutes from Disney. I might go down just to stay with her for a few days and maybe hit up Disney Springs but I don't think the parks will be in the cards
Congratulations to your daughter 🎓. Enjoy the time you spend with her.

The very act of having water parks closed is impossible to defend. There's no evidence the virus spreads through water, and pool chemicals kill coronaviruses.

They are not even opening all of the resorts at once. Some of their CMs literally left the country. Let them figure everything out so that they can get everything up and running.

I'm waiting to see what it's like this summer before looking to book a trip for November. I could trade stage shows and parades if it meant shorter ride lines and dining waits. Missing the fireworks would really sting, but hopefully they have some sort of solution by then?

There is no way to special distance in things like wave pools, can’t wear masks in the water, a lot more bodily fluids. Have you ever been in the typhoon lagoon wave pool?

Chlorine kills the virus so I am not worried about pools and such
What about all the shared surfaces you touch At a water park? Hand rails, tubes, etc? Also this can be spread through respiratory droplets so I’m not sure how chlorine helps that.

Disney is still trying to figure out the logistics of opening the main parks. I’m surprised people are bashing them for not opening up the water parks tomorrow... there is still a pandemic happening for goodness sake.

CDC has said that the virus doesn’t spread by surfaces. This was a couple of weeks ago.

So is Universal and other water parks being unsafe?
It’s not a safety issue. It’s a cost cutting measure,

It is a trying to get their crap together issue. Universal is much smaller and has less to handle.

Plus according to the news Covid cases are still on the rise in Florida. So yeah, let's open everything up!

That excuse just won't fly. If it's too dangerous to open a water park, it's too dangerous to open a theme park. But right now, as far as I know, they haven't officially said the water parks will be closed. They show opening on the 11th on the website.

The same surfaces are also being touched by chlorine water. I am fairly certain there have been zero reported cases of Covid from touching something. I will check with my Infectious disease doctor friend that I work with.

IMO, Disney should have waited until they have made a full plan before announcing things. Letting people rebook, giving free dining, and limiting the dates to so close to the initial onset of the pandemic was a poor choice. Taking away the free dining with no option to rebook with the DP for a later date just compounded it. Now this announcement of opening dates, cancelling all reservations aside from resort reservations, and the lack of communication about what a trip will even look like just seems incompetent to me.

If they have some sort of plan of how many days of park reservations guests will be allowed to make depending on their trip length, they should have stated it with the reopening. If they don’t know, I feel that they should have waited before announcing the park openings. They aren’t even telling people with reservations, who had booked FPs and ADRs, when (or how) they will be able to access the replacement systems. It’s like they saw other parks put plans in place and felt they had to get their plan submitted. They released the bare minimum like a student submitting an outline for a term-length science project that they still haven’t figured out how to execute.

I feel you. My frustration level is growing. I have been trying to be patient and understanding with WDW because current times and the situation is crazy. And it is such a huge undertaking for the company to restructure everything....can you imagine? So, I have empathy for Disney and what they are dealing with. On the other hand, the lack of communication with the folks who have upcoming existing reservations is so frustrating. I have a reservation for July 5-12. I've chatted online and spoke by phone with several TMs and really I have no better idea as to what is going to happen with my reservation now as I did the first day they announced Disney would be reopening. Just a little guidance would be helpful, or a timeline of what to expect. Plus, different TMs are telling me different things. How am I supposed to plan for a month from now? I'm not trying to be whiney or sound entitled. I just want some basic answers. Oh well. I guess the silver lining is I am getting some practice on not being so Type A :P
