A Case for Food and Wine!

I don't see how they can enforce mask wearing while also encouraging folks to stop avery ten steps to buy food and drinks.... how would that work? And I a mask is supposed to be worn (I'm not saying one way or the other) then pulling it off constantly to eat and drink would render it useless....

I have a solution to this - to encourage social distancing and reduce the number of people in the F&W kiosk lines - they should bring back the normal size beers. stand in line once and get a normal beer and not have to get in line several times for the equivalent amount of beer in those thimble cups. :teeth:

And for the prices that they are charging now, the food portions could be bigger. Honestly, if they wanted to keep the crowds from congregating, they should do away with all of the alcohol. I am not one of those that thinks that people should not drink, but we all have to admit that the main problems with gathering are those who come in groups and "drink around the world". It does get busy other times, but that can be taken care of with limits in admittance. If you get a bunch of groups on the weekend, as you have had in the past, make their reservations to come into the park, they will still gather in groups as opposed to those who are there to enjoy the whole park. I have plans to go the first 2 weeks in October like I do every year for the F&WF. But I am one of those that goes for the seminars and special events. IDK if I would go if things are all cancelled and they still have all of the restrictions.

Has anyone heard any word on wether Food and Wine will be a go for this year?

Bigger food and no alcohol??? That would make it The Food & Whine Festival.

With limited crowds just wear your mask except when your actually eating or taking a swig off of your beverage of choice. Good idea to whoever suggested straws earlier in the thread. I'd even be happy with a scaled down version of F&W.

If numbers are not spiking and if they go down significantly, I imagine the mask rule will be gone by the fall.

It's difficult to predict the fate of F&W, things seem to change daily. By August we could be completely out of masks, but who knows?

This is totally what we are hoping for!!!
We do F&WF every fall and would be crushed to have to cancel. But.... if they still have the mask rule as it is now (if they lessened the requirements like just for enclosed venues, that would be do-able) and NO hopping we would cancel! Most days we go into Epcot for food and walk around for 2-3 hours then head to another park.

Hoping you are right. But having cancelled the fall college program as well as the fall cultural exchange program, not sure how they would have the staff for all the kiosks.
Its our favorite event that we go to.
Just for some clarification: the Fall Advantage CP has been cancelled, which started last month and this month. The last set of domestic arrivals would be Fall, which happens in August and September. If (which is bound to happen any day now) those are canceled, they would be the last domestic CP arrivals of 2020. There has been some recruiting for certain Cultural Representatives starting as early as August through November arrivals but the latest recruiting seems to now be for early 2021.

This is the thing I feel like points toward no festival this fall more than anything else. Epcot relies heavily on CP and international CM's. A friend's daughter was supposed to be doing CP starting in August but they haven't yet received confirmation of whether or not it's been canceled. If they cancel those CP's it's nearly certain that we'll have to wait until next year for F&W.

I just booked into a DVC resort for November thinking F&W would take place. It would be DH and my first time. I was aware of the logistics of the event.
I hope they maybe could just have a few extra food stations/stands featuring some of the planned items. This way for those who do commitment to coming this year there is a little pixie dust.

Also, maybe a few entertainment events or some extras on the restaurant menus that they would usually feature during F&W.

Could they do a F&W lite? Just for this year. “Food and Wine Favorites” or
“A Taste of Food Wine”.

Just a few thought from a F&W dreamer.

I've seen the remarks about F&W relying on CP and International CP from several folks on various boards, and of course they are not there presently. As things open up, won't there be thousands of people in Central FL looking for work? I think the U.S.. CP folks just get minimum wage anyway, Disney could hire just for the length of F&W.

Limited capacity in Epcot means no FW I am guessing. They need lots of people there to pay the bills for it. I am sad too. We also had FD for early September.
With the prices they charge for the food and drink items (aka they're not cheap) IMHO Disney will do anything they can to make F&W happy since they need to generate revenue to make up for the losses due to Covid-19.

They also use a ton of seasonal help during the festivals. I have been going down for years at that time and talk to a lot of the cast members working it. There are a lot of retired people that just work the festivals. If covid is under control and people are relatively safe, I can see them having enough seasonal workers to get through the festival. There are also those cast members that have been working part time that might be able to step into these roles. And as other's have said, there will be locals that have lost their other jobs.

On masks, I will add that I work for a school. We are planning on having to mask in September(if we even open in Sept) I’m guessing masking will be in effect for a long time to come.
