Jambo

Just wanted to give an update on what we were offered for our June booking at Jambo. We were initially offered to switch to Kidani and get a savannah view ( we had standard @ Jambo. But we had to pay 5 extra points and they would cover the rest. After a day waiting to hear back from management to see if there was anything else they could do, they came back and offered the exact same thing. No offering to allow us to even move to a different DVC resort. And sounds likely only QS is what they have at the kidani pool bar ( which does not have things my kids will eat).

We had to accept or have them cancel our reservation all together. If we find out a “group” is coming in to Jambo and that was the catalyst, it seems like there could be other recourse we have. We are hoping since we didn’t “cancel” we may have some opportunity to better rectify in coming days. Bummer this is happening 2 weeks before my stay!

I know it’s a bummer, and it’s too bad they didn’t let people know sooner, because as soon as it was announced that DVC was opening, an internal email went to CMs that did not show Jambo,..this was before any mention of NBA considering it or the rooms disappearing from website,

So, I don’t think it was ever slated to open the 22nd., which makes no sense why they didn’t contact people sooner,

I think all QS places will have limited menus. Since you are DVC, on a points stay, can’t you go on and try to modify it yourself elsewhere?

If there are rooms showing on member site for booking, I would think you could do that.

We might end up doing that. Agreed -It was just handed VERY poorly- especially since it didn’t specify only Kidani opening in first news of “DVC opening June 22nd.”

Wow, just wow. So they came back with the offer of "You can take the previous offer or we can cancel your reservation". That is member service for you. Thank goodness we are paying these people for this kind of abuse. I would definitely email the member satisfaction team at DVCMemberSatisfactionTeam@disneyvacationclub.com. Be nice, keep it simple and short and let them know that you are and owner and are very dissatisfied with the way you were treated. If they do not give you satisfaction you can email Terri Schultz senior vice president of DVC terri.a.schultz@disney.com. She may or may not read your email, but her assistant definitely will. Remember to keep it simple these people do not have time to read a 2 page email.

Plus what is up with the 5 points. That is seriously the biggest kick in the teeth. The words that are coming out of my mouth at what DVC is doing to you has my wife looking at me like I am insane (which is only partially true).

It is definitely frustrating at the lack of care they have.
Thanks for the great info- will send those messages!

To be fair, when a room is out of service,...which is the case with Jambo being closed..then they move you to what they can within the same resort.

So, I get why the only option was Kidani. I am surprised they would expect someone to use more points...that is not typical and I would be upset with that.

I do agree that they should have started contacting guests sooner as they knew it would not open with the other DVC.

I agree with you on this, but my problem is why is Jambo closed. Is it because they have no guests to stay there and it is going to be closed for months then I would be more understanding. Is it because they want to use DVC property to house sports teams, then it is not acceptable. Disney is so desperate to get these pro teams that I would not put breaking timeshare law past them for a second. They want that content for ESPN and want to fill those rooms for big bucks. Only time will tell.

Right now, I think they have kept it closed because WDW has not opened their hotels.

IMO, as long the entire building is closed for guest stays, it is okay. It is similar to when they took value rooms out of service last year,,,someone else mentioned this,

There was no renovations going on in the DVC rooms, but no one could book them because hotel construction caused the floor to be closed,

I do not believe that Disney can give Jambo to any sports team and kick DVC out. As soon as rooms open, then DVC rooms need to open because who the guests are would not be a legal reason to kick out DVC owners.

If they do, if I was an AKV owner. I’d be on with them and ask them to provide legal justifications for it.

But, right now, Jambo rooms being inaccessible because building is closed, is probably a valid reason to displace.

My family was booked at Kidani in August for a week. Maybe everything will be back to normal in August, but this has sufficiently spooked us. Especially with word yesterday that the NBA may be housed in three different hotels. We changed to a different resort.

I think the three hotels is an unsubstantiated rumor. Or if it is three, maybe over a period of time, not all at the same time...moving to smaller hotel when team guests are reduced in playoffs.

IMO the issue with Kidani is how long they will close Jambo, since that has the QS restaurant. I think they will open Jambo with the other deluxes, and use the blocked rooms for upgrades for the people booted from CSR because of the NBA.

Agreed. Rather than constantly watching/hoping for Jambo to reopen, I figured it was safer to book somewhere else. It just reduces uncertainty. Why have a reservation at the only resort reopening without a QS restaurant? I hope everything is back to normal come August, but as I said the risk that Jambo does not reopen until after our stay spooked us.

Looking at availability at Kidani, it is almost fully available for every room type through most of September.

That could explain not opening Jambo at first. But once the hotel itself opens, it should be open - I don't have a legal basis for that statement. This also doesn't explain why the whole inventory is gone through January. I could see it gone for June and July prior to the regular rooms opening, but not for 6 months. That's a huge question mark. Perhaps an AKL owner's group should get together and put in a challenge? At least to get some kind of response?

I don't own at AKL but have used my points at both Jambo and Kidani but only at Kidani when Jambo wasn't available. Definitely prefer to stay at Jambo. And I sympathize with owners who have had their vacation disrupted because of whatever this is.

I'm trying to do that with our Sept reservation but there is nothing else open :(

Where are you looking and what type of room?
we are booked in a studio right now Jambo house sept 24-30th and we need a studio for the same dates. I stalk every day and there is nothing. We have waitlisted CCV for now, but its just frustrating dealing with points, AP's and now the fact that they cant tell me what is going on with Jambo for sept. Moving NOW would be the safest bet but theres nothing to move to

I agree that once deluxe open, Jambo rooms...other than CL...need to be available for those booked.

One thing that we don’t know with availability on the website, is how many rooms are behind what we see,

It could have been only one and when it all disappeared, it did so because in reality, it wasn’t very many of each type...hard to really now.

But, anyone who wants an answer should email about why it happened and see what is said.

Personally, I think It will open with deluxe and the current rumor from sources is those will be the first to open back up as they are in places already running due to DVC

IMO, I think by August, it will be open to guests...and not sports teams.

I have a confirmed reservation at Jambo for the beginning of August
If they need to move us, I am fine with that. However, there is no way that I am using any additional points for this reservation
This is on them

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, they moved us from value studios at Jambo to standard view studios at Kidani. The manager said that because they were displacing us, they would be "gifting" us the points to cover the difference.

When I am stalking the website which is quite often, last available rooms are usually SSR, OKW and AKL.

Time will tell.
