As the virus drags on, are you relaxing your own standards?

So we drove from Baton Rouge to Orange Beach, AL yesterday. Stopped at MS rest area and it was clean, people wearing masks and keeping distance.

Then we stopped at Buc-ee’s. It was packed. Maybe 10% customers in masks. No one keeping distance. It was horrible. We shopped as quickly as possible and ran out. My kid is obsessed with the place and it was her first time going in a store in months, so we did it, but dang. People just don’t care. I told my husband if I catch the virus I know it happened there. A woman sneezed, didn’t bother to cover it ughhh. People are so gross.

Beaches are beautiful. Chairs 6 feet apart. Everyone super respectful of space. It’s so good to be with family again.

People are disgusting.

We are driving from TN to Florida this summer and I’m thinking rest stops will be the way to go...bigger and seem to be more routinely cleaned than a fast food place or gas station

If you pass by any QTs (QuikTrip's) those are generally well cleaned. They are my fav gas station company.

We only stop at rest stops usually. Buc-Ee’s does have the cleanest bathrooms around, but the store itself is insane. I don’t think you’ll pass one on your route. They are mainly in Texas. The one in AL is the only one around here.

That was Tuesday today is another day

I am much more relaxed, we've gotten together with friends and family, my kids who are here at home have spent weekends away with friends, had friends over to the house and gone out to do stuff with friends. We have plans in the next few weeks to attend large parties too.
I'm going out in pubic more (still wear a mask) and will continue to as more things open up.

Yeah, you really can’t win. Look, I’m not about ready to go run a marathon or sit elbow to elbow with a bunch of strangers but I’m also not going to just sit at home for the next 12-18 months.

And in other news, the American Cancer Society is laying off 1,000 — let’s continue the destruction of the world to prevent the spread of COVID and we’ll just go without further research into something more fatal and less preventable.

Yes I've relaxed. I haven't really been out to too many stores, just the grocery stores and local greenhouse, and curbside pickup for dinners. I wear a mask to those places. But we hang out with our neighbors and my husband's immediate family members, go to my in-laws pool, etc. My parents will be up at the end of the month hopefully.

We completely lost our mind this morning.

Last time we went to gas station, had gloves, masks, wipes, handsanitizer. Today I went into Bj's alone with gloves , masks , hand sanitizer. After, DH says let 's fill up the van. He gets gas, no gloves, no mask, no nothing. It wasn't until he gets back in the car, that we realized what he did. I had pump bottle ( not little spritzer bottle) of clorox hand sanitizer in car....Gave him about 6 pumps, wipes hands, wipes steering wheel, Gave him about 4 more pumps to do his hands again.

We were dumbfounded that we forgot.

As far as relaxing. Yes, we stayed out of stores for about 8 weeks, then started doing mostly grocery pick up but run in for one or two things. Now it's about 60/40. Still doing pickup, but have been in stores once or two a week for a half dozen items. I'm thinking in another few weeks, just going back to regular shopping.

I needed gas yesterday for the first time since March. I tried to pay with my debit card and couldn't remember the PIN.

Similar experience here. - I stopped for some this morning, and couldn't remember for a sec where the little lever to open my gas cap was!

I'm totally relaxed. I do wear a mask shopping etc. Restaurants here are open, stores open, almost normal. I keep a mask in my purse at all times. DH put bandanas in our cars (just in case). We've had our family over almost weekly, and we're planning birthday party. We live in a quasi rural area so I don't stress about the "sanitize" everything. Never bought into the whole 'sanitize' your life thing before - germs are good for you!!!

Same - I don't wear a mask routinely but I certainly will wherever it's required. I mostly shop in large stores where the cashiers are behind plexi-glass, distancing amongst other shoppers is pretty easy and coming in casual contact with somebody for mere seconds is a miniscule risk. I'm going in to a little boutique flower shop this afternoon to pick up an arrangement and I will wear a mask there. They've only just re-opened and I don't want to make the staff feel uncomfortable. Worry for contracting it myself in these settings is not even really a thing I think about any more. I must confess that my hand-sanitizer uses-per-day has fallen quite a bit over the past two weeks.

I was worried at first, because the reports were tragic. Especially considering that my sis-in-law works in the hospital in Albany, GA, that had the cluster.
After about 3 weeks, I became less concerned. I went out every day, and made sure to use hand sanitizer liberally.
Then more weeks passed, I'm not as diligent, but I rarely ever touched door handles anyway, I use my first, shirt, napkin, etc.

I've been going to the office now for a few weeks, I've been to South and North Carolina for work. I've visited our local plant a few times. I've been to Florida 3 times for non-work activities. I've stayed in hotels 4 times. I have been to bar with friends a few times. I've been to restaurants with friends and family several times.

I only just allowed the kids to do anything a week or so ago. We went to Orlando to see the rocket launch, but they wore masks when required. They finally got to see both sets of grandparents recently, for the first time since Christmas.

And no, I never wear a mask unless required. I have to wear one in the lobby at work, but not in the office. Disney Springs required it, but not the hotel.

I'm going to continue to let all of you go out and get the virus to build herd immunity. Me and my family will sit tight for as long as needed. My company has not gone back to the office and when we do I can still continue to work from home because I live with someone who is high risk. Would rather live another 50 years than live it up now and die on a ventilator.

How long is that, exactly? Everybody has their own degree of risk-tolerance, to be sure and I'm interested in yours and all who make similar comments. What levels/benchmarks/information are you looking for?

Thanks for the reminder -- I'll have to make a point to do that. For some reason when we travel a few hours by car, the kids always want McDonald's for lunch which is also a bathroom pit stop. However, even though just about everything around us has opened, my local McDonald's dining rooms are still closed (just the drive-throughs are opened), so I need to be prepared for that when we travel from TN to FL in a couple of weeks.

I'm willing to wait it out for at least a year. We need 60-70% infection to reach herd immunity. I see cases going up everywhere that has opened. It will continue to go up as people get complacent and travel and infect each other. As long as I can work from home I will continue with my once weekly grocery run and Friday night take out.

@trvlgirlmq Aren't you cruising in October? Or did you change your plans?
We are still booked. Waiting to hear if the cancel so we get our deposit back. Now if my mom changes her mind about her risk I guess I would go. She is the high risk one and is very afraid of getting it.
