What substantive positive CHANGES have come from recent events?

Some people knocked a statue of Christopher Columbus down and into some water today in Richmond Va

Over the last several weeks, many South Florida police departments have reexamined and changed their policies on physical restraint techniques which restrict the flow of blood to the brain. These are commonly mis-identified as "choke holds," but they do not inhibit breathing in any way.

In any event, most of the larger departments in our area have now prohibited these techniques. And that's a positive. The holds were safe if applied and released properly, but that is difficult to do if the subject is struggling. We have not had any serious injuries as a result of these techniques, but eliminating them is a positive step anyway.

This one?

"A witness identified as a Black Lives Matter activist told NBC affiliate WAVY that the injured man had been at the front of the "statue" when he was struck as it was pulled down.

"It came and fully hit him in the head, and we could see that his skull was actually showing," he said. "He was convulsing on the ground."

"He lost a great amount of blood," the witness said. "And we ask that everybody pray for that man right now."

Agree, and I've seen it even in my own household.

I was looking at my credit card bill the other day and saw a charge to GoFundMe. I knew I hadn't made the charge and was concerned that it was fraudulent. My DD18 has a card on my account, so I asked her. Yep...she contributed to the official GoFundMe for George Floyd's family!

And...she gave me the amount in cash because she personally wanted to make the donation, not make a symbolic gesture on my dime!

Very proud of Girlie!
Is she going to donate to the Dorn family after David Dorn a 77 retired cop was killed by looter

Is that your, or my, or anybody's business?
That's a bit rude, isn't it?
JimMIA told us about his daughter contributing to a fund for the family of someone unlawfully killed by a policeman.
PaulaSB12 wondered if the same philanthropy was being extended to the family of a retired policeman killed by looters in a protest of the first event.
Seems a fair question to me especially bearing in mind that JimMIA is himself a policeman.
It has always been difficult to discern tone on these forums. Lately it has been equally difficult to ascertain agenda.

No rider than the post I quoted. Unless she uses his card again, it's not even @JimMIA's business to whom or what his adult daughter donates.
If that is the case, why are you getting involved and in such an aggressive fashion?
This is a discussion board and the subject matter was brought into it and is, therefore, open to discussion.
Pointing out to someone that they shouldn't get involved because it is none of their business but you can get involved to tell them that seems a tad self serving!

I actually agree with both of you.

I brought the subject up, and that makes it a fair target.

And it's none of Paula's business who ELSE my family donates money to. We donate to a lot of things.

If that is the case, why are you getting involved and in such an aggressive fashion? No more aggressive or invasive than the quoted statement. And again, the answer is nobody's business except the adult donor, and again, the cardholder's if that person is different from the donor.
This is a discussion board and the subject matter was brought into it and is, therefore, open to discussion. Yes, it is. :confused3

I never said that poster shouldn't get involved, and regrettable that your inferring so. I stated, one more time, that the information she challengingly requested is not any of anybody's concern. Not mine, or hers, or yours, or even Jim's except that she used his card.

And just for the record, the beautiful young lady now has her own bank account, AND her own credit card (not debit). She's had a card on my account for several years, to give her some experience, and just in case she got stuck somewhere.

But now, brand new accounts on her own.

Hmmm. No credit history...no job...not gonna get a job (college first) -- sounds like a great credit risk!
