Hi I just binge read your TR. am
Loving reading about your two trips! Love the food and snack pictures. Great pictures and love that you include prices too. Especially since our dining plan just got cancelled for our August trip. We are now officially dining Out Of Pocket.

Loved seeing the “then and now” pictures of your kids at the hotel :lovestruc I used to take a picture of my kids in front of the gardens at Le Cellier every trip (that we ate there). It’s amazing to see them through the years from our trips when they were 4, & 5.

Quick question, on the first trip report (the summer one) why did you guys stay at 3 different hotels? (Did you just want to try 3 different places to stay, I was just curious.) I can’t get DH to do a split stay as he hates changing rooms :o

Loved your holiday decor on your 2nd TR, what a great idea! Looked really beautiful and festive!

We are also under the undecided for our late August trip. DH wants no part of wearing a mask in the August FL heat. Also not sure what rides / restaurants being open makes us very unsure about going.

Looking forward to reading more :cutie: Marina

We wandered over to the circus at about 2:18pm and Tyler exchanged his fuel rod, we looked around and then we checked out Dumbo.

I love all the details on the Dumbo ride base! The stand-by wait was 10 minutes...we went in at 2:29pm and walked off at 2:38pm...Dumbo is a family favorite!

We headed up through Tomorrowland...

...and something caught our eye that we saw others walking around with so we went on a hunt for it. We found it at Auntie Gravity;s Galactic Goodies. It was a Christmas Special Milk Shake...it was gingerbread flavored!

It was, again, messy. But it was super good! We fought over the giant Mickey head marshmallow. ANd it was so cute...which is half the value right there! With the rain on and off and with it being slightly hot outside, we had to drink this pretty quickly but between the four of us, it did not take long! It cost us $8.51...we checked out at 2:48pm.

We walked towards the hub when we saw no line for Monsters, Inc Laugh Floor so we headed in there at 3:05pm. We had just enough time to text in jokes before we were heading in. Two of our jokes were used (but I cannot remember what they were) so the kids were thrilled (although I think they were both Tyler's so Skye was a bit perturbed! LOL... We were out at 3:39pm.

We crossed the hub on the way to our next destination. We had fast passes for Jungle Cruise from 3:10pm - 4:10pm. We arrived at 3:51pm (stand-by was at 65 minutes...i do not understand the wait here...they fill boats with quite a bit of people and there is pretty much one filling all the time...so why does the line take so long???)

Wow, so many changes to the parks this summer. Hope you can get your trip planned out and soon. It sounds frustrating to have to wait. I think for me the hardest part would be wearing the mask in the Florida heat and humidity. I wear a mask when I go out but we live in PA and it hasn't been too hot here.

I KNOW! I just wish we knew something...anything...about where our home is going to be and how reservations will work. We are not fans of the masks but we will wear them when we have to. Being from Illinois, we have to wear them to go anywhere around here so we are used to it on a MUCH smaller scale. Everyone else but me works outside the home (Jewel, Game Stop, and a pizza packaging place) so they have to wear them at work but it is nothing like wearing them in the summer in Florida so we'll just have to get used to it. I'm kinda hoping that by then, theme parks loosen up on it but our luck being what it is, I am not holding my breath. Yesterday we headed to Indiana to go to Lighthouse Place (an outdoor outlet mall) in Michigan City partially becasue we are BORED out of our minds...and partially becasue we wanted to be able to go eat someplace INSIDE! It was so nice to not have to be forced to wear a mask.

Thanks! I love writing them! We are lovers of the Deluxe Dining Plan generally but have been straying a bit in the past few years. We feel like we were on too much of a schedule. For me though, when we use it, it is a game to see if we can beat Disney. We do tend to order the most expensive things off the menu anyway but we wouldn't do that if out of pocket. SO we just have fun with it. And when we are not on it, i like to see how differently we eat and how much more or less it costs. I find we CAN eat for much less and less structured but usually we end up spending quite a bit without it so it's just a different kind of trip when we do vs don't do the plan.

The first trip was our surprise trip. I mean, we planned to be going back NOW...or the trip we had to change from June to July...32 days from today! But after we got home from the one before that Disney offered FREE DINING in the summer...and that is not a normal thing. SO I couldn't resist. SO since we knew we already had planned the following summer we figured on buying the Annual Passes (and then snuck a Christmas/New Years trip in for good measure!). But initially when we planned the trip it was ONLY for the on site portion. Once I got to thinking about the dates, I realized (and I don't know how I didn't realize it when planning???) that we were due to arrive after a weekend...we are not patient and we like to get as long a trip as possible so I decided to add days on to the beginning of our trip but the cost of on-site vs off was a lot...AND, with the way Disney is lessening the value of staying on property (higher per night and less benefits of paying that higher cost for less) I knew we would soon be priced out of even a value (especially since we generally sleep and shower in the room) so figured this was as good a time as any to explore other nearby options. We loved the Double Tree, by the way, and that would be at the top of the list of the three off sights we have stayed at so far. And then we were going to head back early but as we planned longer we decided we needed that last night because it would be too late to make much progress on the way home since we would have been out all day so I'd be too tired to drive long. So we wanted to add a night but again, on-site was a lot more and since we would literally just be sleeping there, the Palace got our visit...which would be the last of the three we have stayed at so far. So three it was! It wasn't too difficult. We had one bag packed for the first part and then a separate one for the last night so we did not have to drag everything up with us. It would have been much more difficult if we did not have a car. It was a good way to check out other places without feeling like we missed something. We have done a split at two different on-sites too. That is pretty easy too, since they move your luggage for you. We have usually done that if we wanted to get a deluxe for the last night or if we wanted a longer stay so we did value for the first part and mod or deluxe for the second part...knowing all mod or deluxe would be too expensive. On a longer trip especially, it is kinda nice to get out of the room your have been in and get into a new, fresh one!

I am hoping for the best, expecting the worst for July. Still waiting on knowing where we are staying and the details on reservations for parks. Those are the things keeping us from being excited still. Part of a great vacation is the anticipation and excitement building as you get closer and we have not been able to do that yet! Hopefully soon...

After the Jingle Cruise we were all hungry again So we decided on Casey's Corner. So at 4:22pm we headed over there. The area was crowded but there was enough room to find a table. We love watching the ducks, the castle, people, parades from here. We gave the order and went to find a table.

Skyler ordered the
Corn Dog Nuggets Meal with Cheese Sauce - served with Apple Slices or French Fries.

47CB8A0E-774B-492A-8B70-9574CFFD87D7.jpeg

She really liked them and there was quite a bit of them so we all got to try them. We all agreed! Casey's fries are really good dipped in cheese...and for me, ketchup and cheese or ketchup and mayo!

Tyler got the
All-Beef Hot Dog Meal - served with Apple Slices or French Fries...plain!

DF8197A8-6A33-4D2D-89B6-64DF40906F31.jpeg

This is exactly what he loves in a dog!

I decided on the
Chili-Cheese All-Beef Hot Dog - topped with Chili and Cheddar. Served with Apple Slices or French Fries.

49C0F574-41E6-4FFF-A153-113F81F2D7CE.jpeg

And it was really good! They do have a foot long version also but we decided on the regular one because I was also getting the
Bacon Macaroni & Cheese Fries - French Fries topped with Macaroni and Cheese and Bacon!

033E3985-4703-40C0-AA37-EF91D17C940B.jpeg

These were really good, although hard to eat because, well, noodles do not stick to french fries very well! The kids even snagged some of this...and if you've been paying attention you know what a huge thing that is! Skye loves the "juicy" kind of mac & cheese to dip fries in but bacon on mac & cheese? NO WAY! And Tyler is just not very adventurous...until he is???

Between the fries and the dogs, we have plenty of food and we all left full. It was 4:25pm when we checked out and we probably sat there for 30-40 minutes. Our total was $42.56. We love Casey's but we don't tend to get there a lot either because of the location, or the lure of other foods or because of the dining plan.

While we were there it was still drizzling on and off and getting dark so we were able to watch the castle for a bit. It was also getting more crowded, at least on Main Street. The park was closing at 6pm for the last Christmas Party of the year so we decided to start heading towards the exit.

We headed to the bus stop and got there about 6pm. We were on a bus heading home at 6:15pm and arrived at ALL Star Movies at 6:33pm. We got side tracked by the arcade where Tyler played a few things while Skye and I got chair massages...those things hurt in some places! Tyler played a couple of games of Air Hockey while Skye and I headed back to the room at about 7:04pm...maybe the earliest we have EVER returned to our room to stay for the night!!! Tyler stayed out at the arcade and Pokemon-ing a bit longer. We all got ready for bed, snacked, packed up for tomorrow, watched some TV and went to bed!

Everyone wanted to eat and since we had never had breakfast in Asia we stopped at Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes. We all ordered and then Skyler and I went to find a table. There were a lot open but most were either directly int he sun (which was crazy hot just then) or still wet from the rain (there was a cast member going around wiping down the chairs and tables though). We were able to find one in the sun but not directly and soon Tyler came to find us with the food.

F6F1CCA6-0B68-4401-9622-3337F151BF58.jpeg

We did our usual of ordering three things for us to all share.

We ended up getting a Bacon and Egg Sandwich - Eggs, American Cheese, Candied Black Pepper Bacon on Toasted Challah Bread served with Hash Brown Bites...minus the cheese.

818B61FE-9818-4337-8AE6-23325D64A5FD.jpeg

He was afraid of this...challah, 'nuff said. But he loved it...I keep telling him to stop getting hung up on words! Personally, I don't know how he eats a breakfast sandwich without cheese but whatever! I did have a bite or two and it was really good.

I had the Breakfast Bowl with Bacon or Sausage - Scrambled Eggs, Cheddar Cheese, Breakfast Potatoes, Pepper and Onions with choice of Bacon or Sausage...with sausage.

A29B9BB6-EC7E-4286-B7D7-B50FDBFD31A2.jpeg

It was pratty big enough for me and had plenty of all ingredients spread out in it. I really liked it, and Skyler scammed on some of the potatoes.

We also ordered a side of Hash Brown Bites.

0C683C54-577C-4E71-9D05-84BEE325ABBF.jpeg

We all enjoyed the hash brown bites and we had plenty of them to go around...they were fresh and hot but not greasy at all!

Skyler decided on the Kid's
French Toast - includes choice of 1% Mickey Milk, Small Bottled Water or 100% Minute Maid® Apple Juice...and it's not listed but it came with hash brown bites too.

This was perfect for her for breakfast. All of it was really good and she got a big bottle of apple juice, not a little juice box so she was pleased!

While we were eating (we were seated along the side near the monkeys) one of the Howler Monkeys started "singing"...for a long time...really loudly...it was so funny!

We ordered at 9:31am and our total was $36.81. We have likes all meals here now, so I am sure we will be back in the future.

Tyler used to be able to spend forever in there with a "bird map" finding all the birds and following them to see where they go. It seems like there are less variety out and about these days. Maybe it's just perception but hhmmm...

Anyway, I enjoyed the Jamaican and the tail was really good! I was glad I got it because now I know! LOL...We were there at 10:40am and our stuff cost $10.42. This was a nice quick stop on our journey...we would stop again if it was where we were.

Phew! I feel a bit more confident in our next trip!

I signed on to make park reservations this morning at 6am (central) and initially it kept telling me my log in was not correct. I use it EVERYDAY so I knew it was correct. Then I got the pink castle for a long time. I jumped in the shower and came out to the castle still. At a bout 7:15am it changed to Space Mountain and counter down from 10 minutes, but every so often would change back in time. About 7:45am (central) I was able to get right in. It was fast and easy and i was able to make 15 days of park reservations! I was thinking I'd only be able to make 14 (from everything I had read) and was prepared to leave off the last day since we are planning to leave early-ish...but happy to have it now!

So I am a little more excited. Still nervous about rides/attractions that will be open (I know a list was put out but it changed after the first time so who knows what they will change by the time 24 days rolls around. And then dining. I am still wondering if all venues will be open. If they are, will they all have a similar dummied down menu to save Disney money? These are my next steps and I am afraid we will not know what is happening until parks actually open and we get reports from actual visitor...and even then, day to day...and there are not a lot of days between open and us arriving.

So 24 more days, a bit closer to being excited...

Lost this thread for a while and picked it back up again. It sounds like the Christmas trip was fun in spite of some iffy weather. You got some great parade pics, and I love the ones like this:

where your family members pose for you in a fun way!

Good luck with your current plans as well. I don't have anything in the works right now, but I know the constant changes would stress me out too!

We headed into Pandora next...

Stand by was listed at a 140 minute wait at 11:04am when we headed in. We went right to the point that they count you in for fastpasses, stopped for a minute and went right to a boat. We had to ask for two rows again here. We had a nice ride through and headed out shortly after heading in. The next stop requirement was at Pongu Pongu for a
Night Blossom - Non-Alcoholic Specialty Beverage - layers of Apple and Desert Pear Limeade topped with Passion Fruit Boba Balls. I cannot believe I do not have a picture of this beauty but we all love it...not too sweet and nice and cold! This was our first experience with Boba Balls years ago! The total was $6.38 and it was 11:19am.

After grabbing our refresher, we headed towards Africa along the water, over the bridge...I love this walkway!

Our end goal was Festival of the Lion King. We jumped in line at 11:52am for a 12pm show time.

We were in the overflow group...so the people to fill space. We were directed up to the back of the bleachers to the right. As they are announcing for everyone to move to the center of the bleacher section they were in to make room for others we walked up to the back few rows. We were the last group in our line. Well, guess what we found? A family sitting at the end of the row with enough room for two to three people between them and the people next to them. And then spots for a single person on the end of the two rows in front of the back row. There are four of us. Yes, we all expect to sit together. We're good with two in one row and two right in front of them. We're good with four across. We would have even been good with two in one row and one on the end of each of the other rows. But this other family with multiple members in multiple rows was not willing to move or change their seating. And yes, they could have all been together still...even with moving to accommodate the rest of the people who were let into the show. So we had to get a CM. The CM asked if we'd be willing to split up...because the way they were sitting, we would have been split up. We said no...and by the way, we have never had this happen before! So she made them move. Basically they had the end of three rows...three, three, three....so we could all squeeze in the back row in the middle. Frankly, the middle would have been better seats but I have no idea why they thought it was ok. In the end, they were all together and so were we so not sure what the big freaking deal was???

So anyway, we love the Festival of the Lion King...Skye would love to be in it some day...she used to want to be a Tumble Monkey but has since given up on the bars. Now she either wants to be the girl bird (although if she does not like the Skyliner, not sure how being suspended, flying over the stage on a cable is going to work...LOL) or one of the random animals...particularly the snake of zebra.

It wasn't as active a safari as the last one but it was fun and we were able to see a lot of sleepy animals out in the open that we don't normally get to see as well...it was a fun trip!

So we're at 9 days until we leave...SINGLE DIGITS!!!!

Usually we'd be bouncing off the walls...and we're getting there...but this time there is just so much unknown still.

Not on Disney's part this time, just on the side of what is a Disney trip going to actually look like when we get there???

I mean, how crowded will it actually be? How long will waits for buses, rides, food actually be? What food will be available at what restaurants?

In theory, this should be an awesome time to go...but will it be?

We are prepared for a different kind of trip, but we had been planning to slow down this time anyway. But we wanted to slow down OUR way and some of that will not be available when we are there.

We have reservations at Pop Century (which is different than the Coronado Springs we initially planned), we have all 15 days reserved for parks (4 Magic Kingdom, 4 Epcot, 4 Animal Kingdom, and 3 Hollywood Studios), we have at least one ADR everyday (but I am seeing a lot of options for food all over the parks not available and some of it does not even make sense), I have read up on what counter service venues are supposed to be opening and what their offerings are (and we are slightly disappointed!). We have a few nights at Disney Springs planned (that is where our dinner reservations are). We were planning on going to both water parks and mini-golfing...which won't be available this time (although I think I read that one of the mini0golf places was opening???).

We are prepared to be more aware of what we are doing (ie. masks, hand washing, hand sanitizing, touching rails and fences and faces etc.) which is really not usually a concern for us...we are definitely NOT germaphobes...but we do acknowledge that there is a virus out there. In fact, we feel safer in The World than in our everyday lives actually. Skyler has been working like crazy at Jewel and just started her second, more time consuming job working Summer Camps at our Park District. So she is generally more out there at home than she will probably be in The World (in fact in the past two days she has been home to sleep...that's it! She's loving the money though! LOL...

We've started packing a little but it is hard packing for summer weather in summer...it's been hotter in Ililnois the past few days than in Florida! But the guys have more than enough Disney shirts to put away and any toiletries that we have extra of have been packed. The things we use only at Disney are out and ready to go. Bottles of pop, Gatorade, tea, and water have been purchased. We decided to lug 4 trunks as our luggage this time instead of a million mis-matched suitcases. That should fit in the back of the van easier and should be able to carry all out clothes, drinks, food for the trip. We were a mess the last few times coming and going!

We have reservations for the first night at The DoubleTree at the entrance to Universal. When summer school got cancelled we realized we could leave earlier than planned so we will get into Orlando by 11am-ish on Friday July 17th...we are not sue at Disney until the 18th. So we figured maybe I can finally get my lunch or dinner at Toothsome and then we can pick up Voodoo Donuts while we're there too...we loved them last time we were at Uni. Then we can get a good night's sleep and be at Disney bright and early for our day at Epcot. We're hoping a room will be ready when we arrive, and I don't really see why it wouldn't be at that point but who knows how many people they have shoved into Pop. We have a preferred pool view room booked and i requested 60s and a top floor. The top floor I am not really worried about but I adamant about 60s looking over the pool. I would assume all preferred pool view rooms would HAVE to be in 60s overlooking the Hippy Dippy Pool right?

Normally I like to pay in cash because it is just easier for me to keep track of our spending that way. But, I guess I will be doing mostly using our debit card to charge purchases this time. We all have a bank account with a debit card so splitting up wont be a hassle there but I am going to have to track harder than usual. I definitely do not like charging to the room because for one, I don't want my debit card linked to the room and two, it is even harder to track spending that way!

Reading facebook posts about the Cast Member Previews today has me having mixed thoughts about the whole thing. I mean I think Disney has done well, from what I have seen, in doing their part to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as much as is possible but in some places, but in some ways I know a lot of decisions were made with their profits in mind...not their customers. Again, I understand that...they are a business. But, they are a business with a huge reputation/presence in the world that depends on customer satisfaction. And while I am happy they have gotten to this point, I am sad about some of the things they have done to get there. I an hoping once we arrive, I have a change of heart on this...I mean, everything sounds dismal until you actually experience it for real. And I am sure Disney has things in place to counteract the response to all the things that have been taken away. And I understand that if they lowered hotel costs for all the things I am no longer getting as part of the high cost to stay at a value hotel or lowered pass cost (and the extension on my AP only takes me to the end of November and most likely I will not be able to get back there during that time...not to mention, who knows if I could get park reservations by the time i tried to...so that does not really help me any) they would be losing money so would have to make more cuts in order to off set their profit. It's all a viscous circle!

So anyway...here we are at 9 days out and we have everything in place. We are getting excited little by little and if nothing else, we will be on vacation in less than two weeks!

I'm currently watching a YouTube channel called ResortTV1. It is a group of people live streaming from Magic Kingdom today for the employee preview days. You may want to watch to see how the park is running. It looks more safe than our Wal-Mart!

After our safari we headed over this way...

...and caught a train to Conservation Station. It was 1:20pm. We has a short wait and were on the train at 1:27pm.

We got right in line for stand-by for The Animation Academy. Just before the 1:45pm start time we were allowed in and we got chairs near the back of the area. There is an animator in the center of the front and two large screens showing what she is doing so there really are not any bad seats. Today we were drawing HOPPER!!! They go through some narrative about what the artists did when they were deciding on the best way to draw the character, in this case watching a live grass hopper and how it moves. Then they get down to drawing. They don't move fast but they don't move slow either so you have to keep up. We all did ok keeping up but some of us worry about our end product too much...

I cannot seem to be able to figure out how to turn the pics on the new Photobucket so they are side ways...first is Tyler's...

We all had fun and these are great keepsakes that are free! That does not happen often so when it does, take advantage of it!

After our drawing class we headed out to the petting zoo. We met Tiana the Alpaca...

Who we learned is in a power struggle with the pig. We also learned that it actually hurts an alpaca or llama to spit and that the spit is super smelly!

We were told the chickens are relatively new around those parts and are still feeling their way around and trying to insert their dominance.

2D6EC938_62AE_438F_A0A8_2BDAA8F20374.jpeg

Here is the pig that the Tiana has issue with...her name is Charlotte. Actually, I guess everyone has problems with Charlotte unless she's laying down like she is here...

92065C9C_64D9_4AEF_8F8D_9CFC4E4F320E.jpeg

She did seem to follow rather closely when someone was some place she wanted to be or didn't want them to be. There was also a hairy goat who's name was Chip and he was a funny one. ALmost like he wanted to mess with Charlotte. It was really fun to listen to the CM talk about their personalities and what they all liked or disliked.

After hanging in there quite a while, probably the longest we have ever hung out in there even when the kids were little, we headed inside to look at the exhibits. At 3:18pm we headed back to the train to get back to Africa. A train had just pulled out as we walked up so we had a few minutes to hang out.

It was pouring when we got off the train so we donned out ponchos and umbrella and headed to The Harambe Market. We decided on what to get and Skye and I found a seat in a covered area along the fence overlooking the train tracks. Animal Kingdom has become one of our favorite places to snack around. So we ordered two items. First we got the
Beef and Lamb Gyro - Thin-sliced Gyro Meats served open-faced on Naan topped with Cucumber and Tomato Salad and Tzatziki Sauce and served with African Coleslaw.

9BC5A726_84C4_4D0F_96A6_4BB1F7DCA751.jpeg

I don't remember it being Chicken and Lamb (I thought it was chicken only) but maybe? I do remember that we both really enjoyed it. It felt lighter than a regular gyros...maybe just because there was less meat on it or maybe it was the sauce on it? Who knows...but it was really good and I even liked the coleslaw!

We also ordered the
Chicken Bowl - Grilled Chicken and White Rice served with choice of Apple Slices or Carrot Sticks with choice of Small Lowfat Milk or Small DASANI® Water.

9B70A194_3F64_4167_926D_D8335A38469B.jpeg

And of course she got the cookie not the carrots or grapes! This was pretty dry...not texture wise, just that it had nothing on it. The meat is seasoned well and who does not like white rice...especially some what picky young adult-ish people? The both liked this and would have gotten another one if I hadn't reminded them that there were more places to stop on our way around.

We were here at 3:32pm and we sat a while and waited to let the rain subside a bit. We all enjoyed our food here and it was not crowded at this time. We are actually sad to see this place not on the list of open venues for our upcoming trip. I know we will return here someday. Our total was $26.28.

I had actually been watching people's face book accounts of the cast member previews all day yesterday. I am very sure that being in the bubble we will be much more sanitary than out in our normal everyday real world.

I think I am more concerned with what we are used to vs the new reality and how it will affect our trip.

I am sure, in the end, we will come back having had a great time...it will just be a different version of a great time!
