2021 cruise watch thread~!

I haven’t been on here for several months so I’m not sure if this info is already out there. I’m wondering when Jan/Feb 2022 dates may come out?

Generally it's around 18 months out for release dates, and over the last few years DCL seems to have adopted this pattern for release dates on new cruises:
  • "Winter": first cruise in the new year up to April/May (not including spring Panama Canal and Transatlantic) – sometime between late September to early November
  • "Summer": cruises from about May to August/September (not including fall Panama Canal and Transatlantic) – mid February to early April.
  • "Fall": September until the end of the year (ending with the last cruise starting in the old year) – generally around May.
So, it should be around this September/November, historically. But, who knows?

Personally I use the below as kind of an idea when itineraries will be released: Obviously this year is an exception:

Winter, Jan-Apr/May = itineraries released 09/28 to 11/09
Summer, May-Sept = itineraries released 02/15 to 04/05
Fall, Sept - Jan1st = itineraries released 05/10 to 06/06

The above has been approximately the release trend over the past few years.

I will likely look at a couples cruise for December 2021 but have to see how things change and what prices look like.

If Disney were to state 50% capacity or something but rooms are more expensive I might go for that have to just see how things unfold.

Yes, I would assume they would have to raise prices to make up for sailing with the empty rooms. With that in mind I would gladly pay more for less crowds.

Not to go all grassy knoll on everyone, but what if the delay means they don't have a schedule in the first place (for release)?

I believe you could have something there... but so many other cruise lines announcements are so much earlier than DCL. So I think it’s a attempt to keep the traveling closer to the original sail dates. I’m thinking they had most of the contracts signed and have a good deal of the work done. But every one is up in the air now. And possibly if a person whom had to move a cruise they would get their sites set on a more current date instead of “well we will go next year instead “

I don't know if this has been brought up in 25 pages but I wonder if uncertainty with the Disney Wish (a possible delay) might delay itineraries for late 2021. While the Wish isn't planned until early 2022, fall itineraries set up winter sailings. The Magic currently leaves Europe, sails to New York and San Juan before settling into Miami for the winter. Same with the Wonder heading back east.

Would Disney want 5 ships in the Caribbean in early 2022? If Wish is coming Jan 2022 then it would likely affect where ships go late in 2021. Perhaps the Wonder stays on the west coast or Magic goes elsewhere for Fall & Winter. Or perhaps they get Dream or Fantasy out of Port Canaveral to get a bigger ship to other ports. All of the potential options for 2022 are hinged on the Wish being ready, which might be in both Disney and Meyer-Werft mutual interest to slow down construction.

That said, I'm waiting for an announcement, got a travel credit burning a hole in my pocket.

Are other cruise lines releasing new itineraries, or are they all sitting tight?
Oh for sure, NCL and Royal have definitely released their 2021 itineraries and have already released some of their 2022 itineraries. But as a general rule, most of the big cruise lines release their schedules far in advance of DCL anyway.

I don’t understand how cruises are released. Back in January I booked a cruise for January 2022 with Royal Caribbean. And I still could not move a cruise from DCL still to that time frame.

Well at least we have a release of one scheduled sailing for late 2021. TCM Classic Cruise 2020 Rescheduled for October 24-30, 2021 on the Disney Fantasy.

The way those dates work out, hopefully that means the Fantasy 10/16/21 sailing will be an 8 nighter.

I have always wanted to go on that sailing.

Any opinions on what the latest round of cancellations means in regards to the itinerary release for the rest of 2021? I was thinking that the rest of 2021 release is imminent and that is why they cancelled only the 2 weeks of the few unlisted cruises instead all of October or more. They are already going to get high call volume when the itinerary release comes out, they didn't need to get swamped with additional cancellation/re-booking calls on top of that. So they just cancelled the few cruises for the 2 weeks and that way they can handle the high call volume for booking the itinerary release. Just a theory, what do y'all think?
