JULY W.I.S.H. Challenge - Summer of Positive Change

Well my friends, it's over.

Thank God for nitrous oxide because my anxiety was an all-time high. He removed the tooth and did a bone graft, so I can wait on the implant for many months which is good because it will be $5,000.:scared1: This will give me time to save.

I won't be eating solid food for the next 5 days, so I expect more weight loss. I'm in a lot of pain, but I can't take anything for another hour because I have to bite down on the gauze. Looking forward to 800mg. Motrin. I didn't want to take any narcotics, so hopefully the Motrin will work.

Thanks for all of your well wishes.
Glad he was able to remove the tooth today! Hopefully that Motrin kicks in quickly and you can get some rest!

Can you believe it has been almost four months since our worlds have changed so drastically?

Looking through old posts I think we have all become stronger in our professional and personal lives. Working from home, teaching our children, caring for older family members, and all while trying to maintain our health and sanity.

Feeling an “attitude of gratitude” isn’t always easy, but most days I am so grateful for the little things-a sunny day, a good book, a chat with a friend.

I am livid right now. our governor decided today that all counties in the state that have 4 or more cases are under an immediate mask mandate. NEVER MIND THAT ONLY 2 CASES IN MY COUNTY ARE NOT INMATES IN THE JAIL OR PATIENTS IN A MEMORY CARE CENTER.
As someone who has Asthma, chronic broncitus, a history of pneumonia, and a history of heat stroke this is just what I need.
I KNOW I KNOW TRY DIFFERENT TYPES OF MASKS.
HELLO I DON'T HAVE THE FREAKING MONEY TO TRY SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES JUST FOR THEM NOT TO WORK FOR ME. I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO USE MY MONEY FOR THINGS LIIKE GROCERIES SO I DON'T HAVE TO PUT THOSE ON A CREDIT CARD AND GET MORE IN DEBT. I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO USE MY MONEY TO PAY DOWN SOME OF THOSE CREDIT CARDS SO THAT SOMEDAY I CAN HAVE A RETURN TRIP TO DISNEY WORLD OR HELL EVEN A WEEKEND TRIP TO ANOTHER TOWN IN MY STATE AND STAY AT A DAYS INN (INEXPENSIVE BUT THEY DO HAVE A POOL AND AN EXPANDED CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST).

yes I could go back to being on 4 different inhalors, 2 different pills, and a nebulizer just for my asthma not to mention all the times of being on steroids and antibiotics for the broncitus with an increasing list of ones I have developed an allergy to.
I REALLY WANT TO DEAL WITH PAYING HUNREDS OF DOLLARS A MONTH IN CO PAYS AND THAT IS WITH HAVING ALREADY MET THE FAMILY DEDUCTIBLE AND OUR HEALTH INSURANCE COVERING 90%. (at least I can pay that from HSA funds) I REALLY WANT TO DEAL WITH SIDE EFFECTS OF MUSCLE TREMORS, BLURRY VISION, MEMORY LOSS, HAVING THEM F WITH MY THYROID WHICH I FINALLY HAVE UNDER CONTROL AND I DON'T NEED THAT AGAIN AS IT RESULTED IN WEIGHT GAIN.

Technically I don't have to wear one according to one of my local news stations that reported a bit more unlike a station that had an article show up on my phone that left out these details but then there are all the but I have asthma or I have broncitus and I wear a mask without any problems.

from the news article
The governor says other exceptions include children under 2, while eating or drinking at businesses that sell food or drinks, during activities that make face coverings unsafe (like strenuous physical exercise or swimming), while giving speeches or performances in front of a socially distanced audience, while receiving medical care or for people with a preexisting condition that would make wearing a face covering unsafe.

Right now I want to go make a batch of fudge and a bunch of cookies and some brownies and start eating away because if the homemade 100% cotton material masks don't work for the cat show (I plan to go outside and sit on a bench except for if I need to come in and use the bathroom and when 15 year old is showing in her classes. They are judged indivdually so the cats don't get upset or one doesn't decide to fight with others on the show table. I could have someone come tell me when she is on deck and then come in and watch and of course take some pictures) I am back to being issolated and not able to go anywhere again. My mental health can not handle that as I spent a lot of my life socially issolated due to not fitting in with the kids in the regular classes due to my hearing loss but not fitting in with the kids in the special education classes due to my being cognitively and academically eons ahead of them because I would be going to university and most of them would be working at a supported job or at a sheltered workshop. I did all regular classes in school but was considered a special ed student due to my hearing.

Oh and we have a 2nd cat that has taken sick on us. Not drinking and not taking moist food. This one is moving more than the other one who has gotten it and recovered. The fun thing is this is the cat that 15 year old was planning on showing as her male cat.
I need to be calling the vet's office tomorrow morning at 8 am to see if we can do a drop off so they can do a blood pannel. If there is something going on we might need to get the two that have not had it a vaccine or a preventative treatment. This means that 15 year old and I need to be ready to go at that time in the morning and just plan to either have DH park the truck so it is past the hose in the morning or have 15 year old kink and move it (my dad will have the water running from his place as we are having problems with our well and it runs our water out too fast to water off the cistern-we have close to 200 feet of hose strung together to go from the pump over at my parents that goes through the pasture and across the private road). It is not good to drive on the hose hench having to figure out if it is easier to move the hose in the morning or to park so we can just get in along the front of the house and not at our normal parking spot.

Love this!
This weeks has been filled with emotions for me. I’m not usually much of a camper. I’m more of a DVC or OBX vacationer. When our Mexico trip got cancelled, I accepted it because I knew it was in the best interest of my family’s health. However, it was harder to accept when I arrived at our “cottage”. While we did have AC, mini kitchen and a full bathroom, the place was really outdated and run down. As soon as we got here, I was in full tears. I tried to hold it in, but my mind kept saying that I should be in Mexico at our all-inclusive resort. After all, it’s our 20th anniversary and we’ve never done a trip like that before. (I know I sound a little snobby right now, but just give me a chance). The first night at camp was full of rain. This always seems to happen when I go camping. That’s a big reason I tend only go camping once every ten years or so. But the next three days were sunny & less humid (thanks to the rain storm). It was so good to see my teenage kids playing and having fun (thanks to no tv or Xbox). Yesterday we hiked 6 miles! There were times when I would just sit and read and the kids would actually get on my like I would do to them if they were sitting around watching tv all day. They were actually asking me to play cards or have a catch or go fishing. It was really great family time. Last night we were laughing so hard playing Spoons (fun card game if you’ve never played). We did a fancy camp dinner of steak and crab legs for our anniversary meal. While the cabin pushed my comfort level, I am so thankful for the family time and memories that were created here. 🥰

Thankful Thursday

I'm so thankful that my surgeon and his assistant were kind. They kept checking on me and asking me if I was okay in the midst of the procedure. I expected the nitrous oxide to make me loopy which it never did. They kept waiting for it, but it never happened. It did calm me, and their concerned voices calmed me. When I could still feel things after the novocaine, he stopped and gave me more. I'm thankful that I can wait for the implant since it will be outrageously expensive. I'm thankful to have that bad tooth out of my mouth. I'm thankful that my DH brought me and picked me up so that I didn't have to drive after all that. I'm thankful that I didn't bleed much last night. I'm thankful that there's still plenty of summer left to
enjoy.

Have you considered talking to someone that could help you sort through things? You have a lot going on in your life right now and it can seem terribly overwhelming. A few years back I was dealing with a few things and although I have a wonderful husband, family and friends, I felt like I needed an impartial set of eyes to help me make some decisions and to help me cope. I used pastoral counseling, and I think I only met with her twice but it was an enormous help. I was only sorry I didn’t go sooner. Just something to think about.
((hugs))

I have not thought about it. I am doing fine when I am home but being by people for a long period of time is what I am having an issue with. It is the same issue as earlier this year when everything with the virus started. It will settle back down. Things are just getting bad in my area.

It does look like my office will shut back down here shortly. My county is a level 3 * (Red Level). We have 4 levels that are color coded. 1 is yellow, 2 is orange, 3 red and 4 purple. The * means we have hit level 4 requirements. If nothing changes or gets worse in that 2 week period we move to purple. We are at the end of our 2 weeks and it is not getting any better. We will be purple. At this stage we will be shut down and schools will be online. Right now just summer school and sports. If we stay in purple when school starts it will be on line as well.

Our school district is giving us an option of 100% in school or 100% virtual. We are going to virtual. It will be much better then the spring as they will have actual classes. In school would be rough I think on kids. They may bounce back and forth between in school and remote (not the same as virtual). The back and forth I think will be hard on the kids. So far in our district it is about 30% doing online the rest in school.

DD had a break down last night. She cried for hours about missing a horse that she loved at the old barn and that so many things have changed for her this year. I think everything finally caught up to her. I am working on getting her an appointment with her therapist. She usually goes every month but she was doing good so I held off. She does so much better if we go once a month. Each time that we have taken a break (first time is when her therapist had twins and the second when she had cancer) after about 2 month things get really bad for DD. I know she needs to go once a month but let it slide this month.

Happy to wear he was able to go ahead and take the tooth out... now onto the healing!

The covid numbers in my county are holding steady, they are higher than when we started to reopen but we seem to be flat, as in around the same number of new cases each day, and not growing at the rates in other areas of the county. I'm grateful for this. We're paused for any more opening up, but haven't had to revert back so hopefully it is enough to keep businesses going.

I am also grateful that we've had such summery weather this week, it is so nice to wake up to sunshine and has helped me stay motivated to get in my morning walks.

I'm also grateful that we are getting closer to when kittens born after 6.8 will start coming up for adoption. I'm going to send an email inquiry to the rescue in my sister's town to get things started... they do things by appointment, but for kittens on their website they just list "we've got a bunch come meet them" which is what I want... to be able to have the kitten chose me.

Had a high calorie day yesterday and it did show on the scale this morning. I really do need to get my head back in the right space, so I've started journaling again and started reading another Gabby Bernstein book... and paying closer attention to what I'm reading in Noom.

As mentioned tomorrow I head over to Port Townsend for lunch with my Niece and mostly visiting a couple of the parks for walks, but will also probably stop in town. Other than that for the weekend I've decided to not be overwhelmed with the chores and projects needing attention and will pick just four things that will get done, another above that will be a bonus.

Oh goody I get to get heat stroke sitting in my truck while 15 year old is in Joanns so the jerk next to me can have his cigarette. That or I deal with my asthma acting up from the smoke and fumes. Fun choice.
15 year old found a 100%cotton mask for me. I tried it in Candy Town and between my breathing issues and the heat stroke ended up blacking out. 15 year old asked and they are not going to refuse service to those who can not wear a mask for medical conditions.
Had to call the vet on one of our cats today they said by description he might have feline leukemia. They are booked up so had me go to their weekend emergency backup. Appointment is at 3:30 my time. We are not waiting due to the cat show want to make sure it is not something contagious as this is the 2nd cat with same symptoms. Cat show is tomorrow so hopefully 15 year old doesn't have to completely scratch and even better if she can show her other Male cat in addition to her female.

My MIL passed out in her mask, too... 100% cotton, double-layered, made by me to the exact specifications originally put out by my school of nursing... Some people just really CAN'T do it... and TBH, unless it's a surgical-grade mask, it only protects OTHERS, not YOU... so if you can't then don't. There are exception clauses for a REASON.

On that note, I went into Baltimore today to get fit-tested for my masks for when we do hospital rotations this fall-- assuming we do... everything is still up in the air but they're "working on it..." Anyway... yeah, for the purposes of driving into one of the hotspots of our state, parking in the VA hospital, then walking through university hospital to do my testing at Shock-trauma … heck yes, I invested in a disposable KN-95 and practically steam-cleaned my hands... still no guarantees, but better than nothing. They issued me ONE disposable surgical mask and instructions on how to "sanitize it between patients." I haven't read that yet, but I can't help feeling skeptical... But since I also was fitted for the reusable gas-mask style thingies that make you look like a space traveler, I'm hoping I can just use those... I feel more comfortable with something that is DESIGNED to be re-used... even if I have to check it out, use it, then send it back for cleaning (meaning the one I wear each time has been used by someone(s) else and cleaned before...) That was a funny experience... basically you put the mask on, then put this plastic hood over that, then the guy sprays a bunch of horrible smelling/tasting stuff into the hood... if you can't taste it, the fit is good... I feel bad for the people who don't get the fit right the first try!!!

Oh the way home, since I was already near the neighborhood, I swung through a place near Sis's old apartment that has clearance veggies for $1 bag (about 3 or so lbs?) .... yeah... oops... So even though it is not "my day" to cook at all on the weekends, gonna be doing some cooking! I can blanch and freeze the spaghetti squash, zucchini, and summer squash, and I've also heard that sweet potatoes and tomatoes can be frozen (easier than canning...) I'll probably make applesauce... but the napa cabbage and turnips can't be preserved, so I'll be eating those first. DD13 loves Chinese hotpot, so I'll probably do up some broth, make the wontons she's been begging for with the pork in the fridge, and then we'll throw in the cabbage and the enoki mushrooms I bought... if you've never seen those before, look them up, they're silly!

But, it's Thursday... so I'm thankful that the Baltimore thing is over, I've been kind of dreading it... thankful that I had quiet time away from the fam today driving there and back.... thankful for some shopping, but thankful that side from veggies, I didn't overbuy... ever-thankful for air conditioning, and thankful for the "good side" of the internet to help me find ideas for all my veggies... y'all remember the bad-ol' days when you had to either buy cookbooks or check them out from the library? Then you had to either copy the recipes by hand or photo-copy at 10 cents be page only to lose or spill on the pages before you ever got 'round to even trying the recipe? I am SO thankful for pinterest!!!

I was reading today that there's some new service called "peacock" and inside their user agreement is a recipe for "granny's chocolate cake..." I know this because someone was reviewing the recipe and complained that it skipped steps... Like "add boiling water to chopped chocolate squares." The author was complaining about "what is a square" and "she never SAID to chop it..." It was an older millennial who has obviously never copied a recipe card by hand like Granny... heck yeah, you cut out as much as possible! Those cards were SMALL!!!

One of the recipes I found is for chocolate zuchini cake... it's calling to me, but luckily I don't have the energy for that tonight... it's healthy if there's zuchini in it, right? :P

Well I guess things got a bit better in my county. We lost the * notation. But holding steady in the Level 3 red level. We are having about 1,200 cases as day and holding around there. I had my doctors appointment this afternoon. She put me on a nasal spray and zyrtec. She thinks all the sinus issues I have been having is all allergy related. I am really hoping that this helps. The sinus headaches are bad. She said if this doesn't work she is going to have me try singular. She did give me a note to work from home. I am going to wait a bit and see what happens at work. I feel I need to deal with the Mondays for right now with being a manager. If work follows through with everyone being in the 100% in August I will use the note.

I know that I legally can get by not wearing a mask with my conditions but there is also balaning the anxiety caused by others giving looks and even saying that I am trying to kill them or that I should just stay home.
I am for the most part, I will do drive up services but I did want to test out the double layer cotton one (JoAnn Fabric has some nice ones) in a favorite store because I wanted some pick your own mix of Jelly Belly-I am happy to eat 1-5 of those and am satisfied instead of the whole bag like I do with other candy's. They make a nice treat that I will not over indulge on.

I did have to go in at the 24 hour emergency Veterinarian Office to be there when we found out the results of the leukemia test for our precious beloved white male kitty Joker Edmund. 15 year old let them know that I have medical condition that I can not wear a mask and they were fine with it-they have a staff member who can't as well.

The good new is Joker Edmund did not have feline leukemia. The bad news is he had a blockage in his urethia (basically they can't pee and it gets backed up and causes cysts and crystalizing). His lab numbers were so off the chart on some of them they couldn't even be read on the equipment they have and his body tempature was extremely low for a cat. We were looking at a cathorization and drainage surgery that he would have had less than a 5% chance of making it through and less than a 5% chance of it not reblocking again within 3-6 months if he made it through the first 48-72 hours without it blocking again. The other option was to have him put down.
After 15 year old going on about how we would spend the money if it was 12 year old and my attempting to call the credit union to see if I could do a loan over the phone and then DH and I go in and sign the paperwork on Friday and seeing if my parents would loan us the money and a payment plan as to how we would pay that back on top of the car loan from them plus 15 year old working 4 hours a month for 3 months to pay the interest on the loan with my mom (she thinks 15 year old needs to learn that you have to earn money and it is not just given to you) and was waiting for her to call me back once my dad came in the house.
15 year old made the decision to have her cat put down but she did not want to be there when he died, I was wanting to but at the same time needing to be there for her and for 12 year old who was originally with my mother in law but was brought over to say her goodbyes.

A few photos of our beloved Joker Edmund AKA Mr Needy (as in I need love and attention). I am missing him so much right now especially since he would sit beside me as I was on the computer and would try and block the screen. Right now I would give anything to once more have him in my view as I am finishing up typing this, it hurts so much.

Since it is Thankful Thursday I am thankful that I was able to drive home inspite of my eyes continually welling up with tears including through a badly signed construction zone (speed limit was 10 lower than normal construction zone speed limit in MT but you don't know that until your there and guess what the speed is this).
