Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I’m just going to throw this out there. Please, please, please anyone considering traveling to Florida, *make sure* you have the ability to strictly quarantine for two weeks upon your return. No work, school, getting groceries, or chatting with neighbors for 14 days. Yes, everyone has the right to consider their own risk tolerance and relative risk of illness, but please do not make that choice for your community too. You may also want to consider quarantining for two weeks before you leave, or if not, then have a backup plan as to what you will do if you become symptomatic while there (i.e., do not get on a plane and come home). I think it was @mentos who suggested having a few Air BNB options on your radar in the event this were to occur, and that was my plan back when we still thought we were going to DL.

good points! I’ve seen a few WDW posters mention that they have plans in place just in case someone gets ill!

Ha, loved logging back on and seeing all the enabling responses- you all are truly my people. 🤣 I am considering it! It’ll be interesting to see how WDW (and Disneyland) increase their capacity over time.

I know a lot of us have talked about not wanting to be the ‘first batch’ of people in but if that’s when capacity is the lowest maybe that is the best way....?

Totally. I feel like anyone traveling should consider this. My plan for DLR was to get tested upon return too.

I'm the non-enabler. I think it's crazy to go to Florida with their numbers what they are. I think it's too soon to go to either Disneyland or WDW, much as I really want to.

There! Now you have the other point of view :)
I'll join you here (while sitting a ways away and giving you a virtual high five). I love to plan trips and it's hard not having anything on the calendar, but Florida is just too out of control for me.

With that said, I'm doing the same thing! Was supposed to be at DL July 23-27, now I'm going to WDW for 5 days the second week of August! Yay for Disney!

It looks like the hotel rates there are cheaper than usual. Pre-pandemic plan was to do a big trip there in 2021 and so I had all these notes on cost and there’s definitely a difference when I was looking.

It’d be nice to see DL do a hotel sale when they open but I’m not holding my breath haha...

Our original trip date was going to be this coming week so I’m extra antsy right now.

No judgment please but I’m debating hopping ship to WDW. My personal opinion but I think at this point comparing the inside of the resorts (if you don’t plan on going elsewhere in the state) the risk isn’t much different.
I’ll keep hanging in there... I think knowing DLR so well helps with the anxiety bc I know every hidey hole and bathroom and so on. Even a rough guess would help.. Like oh definitely not before October or before September etc.

I’ve been following Disneyland Daily Casey, who is currently at WDW, and it’s a flipping ghost town. My sister has a friend who is a TA, and she’s there right now, and it’s completely dead. Right now is probably the best time to go.... it’s safer than Costco. If Disneyland is this dead when it eventually opens, we’re going as much as we can.

Unfortunately different crowd here at DLR, right? unless they limit the APs to something, we're going to hit capacities easily IMHO

Did a brief trip to DTD this evening. I arrived around 5:30pm. No line for parking, temp check, or security. Inside it was slightly busier than what I saw Saturday. More people were wandering around for sure. The line for WOD wasn’t too long. They weren’t using the virtual queue. I felt that WOD was more full this time around, but I made sure to keep my distance from others. I noticed a few things:

1. 65th anniversary ears are sold out at WOD and dress shop
2. There is new Onward merchandise; pic is below. Since it is new many people were surrounding it so I didn’t want to get too close.
3. Some Of the mask sizes are selling out (especially large)
4. Marcelines was completely sold out of goodies. So if you are wanting goodies, I would suggest going early in the day. Only thing available were the pre packaged items

Not judging, it'd be hypocritical of me. We're booked for next May (our 3rd trip)! And we're following it with a week in the Keys to relax and unwind.

But how would you get there? If you're flying you're still dealing with an airport, transportation, etc.

Heh heh. We drag our trailer. Pretty much no direct contact with anyone other than checking in at RV parks en route (mask and gloves). Pay at the pump for fuel and all the comforts of home including a fully stocked kitchen so no need to stop for meals. We stay at Ft Wilderness so same thing...no common hallways and your own piece of heaven, um, a campsite. We drive to 3 of the parks and take the boat (and sit outside) to MK.

Of course, we've already set up our list of 'caveats' that would cause us to cancel and have accepted the risks involved. And yes, we will absolutely isolate when we get home.

It's not looking good out there. Take care, California friends.

Situation is very frustrating to see leadership in such a large county (when I first looked up the population for Orange County I was so surprised) downplaying the urgency of this. Of course, with the death threats received in the past who can blame them?

I'm going to throw a new dart at my 'speculation based on nothing substantial' dartboard at a overly optimistic Sept. 1st opening proposal from Disney.

My husband is begging me to buy an RV. 🤣🤣🤣 Sounds like the perfect way to travel to WDW!

I second That!

My guess would be end of September at the earliest, but that's assuming at least some schools are back in person. I really can't see CA opening Disneyland while schools are closed. The optics of that don't work. And CA is much more concerned with optics than Florida (understatement LOL!). If the past is a guide, DLR will need at least a month to open after an announcement. To open early September that would mean an announcement in early August. I don't see things improving that quickly around here--early August is 2 weeks! I'm in the Bay Area, which is doing much better than LA, and we are still in the dog days of this surge. My county has never really opened up--we barely have outdoor dining. Of course, the problem with my late September supposition is that assumes people can control themselves around Labor Day. So ... maybe Halloween is a better guess :(

I agree on the preparation part, but as for schools v. DLR- DLR’s opening is not predicated on the opening of school. Schools aren’t safe to return to because they can’t guarantee cleanliness, rules and procedures for when or if students/staff get sick, proper mask supply or cleanliness, and they can’t stop a kid from not entering the school for not wearing a mask or wearing it properly. Also the issue of social distancing in classrooms is virtually impossible- a lot of public schools are filled to the brim as it is- they cannot “limit attendance” for safety. DLR can mandate masks regardless of how one feels about it and ensure social distancing. schools have a much harder time enforcing/ mandating that, so to avoid those things it’s best they stay closed. I think they know they cannot afford to ( or just don’t want to) pay for ppe, paid time off for teachers who can’t or won’t come back to a classroom. But I could not agree more that early September is a reach, but it gives me something to look forward to. I will not pretend to know when or if they will open, but I like being a wishful thinker!😊

The cynic in me is also wondering if Disney’s decision makers are eager to speed up openings as quickly as humanly possible to get the clocks running on APs (that expired during the closure and have been extended) again?

I hate to be pessimistic here, and I'm sorry if it's already been mentioned here, but is there a chance that Disneyland will never reopen again - ever? That March 13 or whenever was the very last day of operation for the park, period? This is unprecedented. It has never been closed for this long a time.

My mother told me that it's a moneymaker for the company and for the state as a whole, but when it's been closed for this long a time, you have to wonder if it's even worth it anymore. The company stated that the parks were not going to become moneymakers again if they do reopen, so what's the point?

I'm asking these questions based on the fact that I have loved the parks unconditionally and it's in my blood.
