Losing points in November and disappointed in DVC

If points was extended was the deadline for moving points to RCI extended too?

I mean normally it’s 45 days before they expire (IIRC)
If that was always the deadline, then yes, it did get extended as well.

It’s not anyone’s first choice of points use, but we had an excellent time at an RCI Resort. Don‘t just think it’s not worth anything.
I'll at least put it into RCI if DVC doesn't do anything better for us before then.

I had an Aulani reservation for September that was just cancelled. I understand but I also really hate being penalized because I saved points to go and now I’m going to lose them. It’s not their fault the resort isn’t open but it’s not my fault either. I don’t even want to use them for a different reservation I just want the one I had.
Member services told me to call back later to try to extend it but if I’m going to rent them I need to do that sooner rather than later.

We are just resigned to possibly losing our 289 points if we are unable to travel before they expire. One of the risks of timeshares I suppose. Disney unborrowed points for us, for which I was grateful. We banked 289 and hope to use them before November 2021, but who knows at this point? No interest in RCI so if it comes to it, they’ll expire.
There is another option.....

Have a dear friend within driving distance of WDW? DONATE the points to them.

That's what we did. WDW was gonna rob us anyway - so we chose to get "robbed" in a fashion that helped someone else, and denied WDW the ability to rent out our points. Revenge and "feel good" at the same time :).

WDW can't steal our points... and a wonderful family with two dear daughters gets lodging, for their early DEC vacation :).

I think this is a great idea. Unfortunately we don’t have any such acquaintances.

Depending on when you purchased DVC, have you looked to see if there are any properties in Europe you can go to? You could possibly go with Disney Collection

I agree with you 100% and I will do the same. I read the David's Vacation Rental thread and I never want to rent out my points. I have a 100 point Aulani contract with a June use year. If i can't go to Hawaii (we usually go at least once a year, sometimes twice), then I will just make Aulani reservations and gift them to family we have in Hawaii. I'd rather give them a stay than go through the trouble of renting.

myself and my son were to leave today for 1 day at Beach Club and 7 days at Animal Kingdom. My wife, who knows nothing about Disney but plenty about Florida, put her final word down last Sunday, “NO.” Animal Kingdom was an RCI exchange, and I got back the exchanged week and credit for another exchange fee. I gave the 1 night to a Disney friend that lives in Orlando. Not a very happy day today for me.

In addition to RCI, check out the other Disney related options. There are several in the northeast that could be a days drive from NoVa...leaf peeping or mountain getaways.

We are just going to eat a years worth of points - maybe two before this whole thing clears up.

your best option would be to rent the points out - there are lots of people looking for points to rent. If you price it right, the points will go quickly :)

So now what?
Why not look into renting out the points. Honestly with the park attendance being so low, flights being cheap and still some availability - you might be able to get a little something. Maybe make the deal sweet and not ask top dollar - maybe $10-12 pp to cover MF plus a little extra.

RCI isn't necessarily a bad thing, but make sure you know the rules of use and transferring. It might just give you a new place to explore, so look at the positives.

I feel your pain....September use year banked 106 points set to expire November....some days it really bothers me ...some days I'm happy my family is healthy....
Rent out your points for btwn $12-14. People are looking to book in September, October and November.

On our side, we have to bank by end of September. That means we will have another 350pts that need to be used by January 31, 2022. We don't know whether to transfer them, rent them out, use them or what. My concern is that there will be a glut of points for next year and NO availability....

rent the points out. I put my points up 2 weeks ago and within 3 days I had 6 people looking to rent.
People are looking for deals and wanting to go.
I rented mine at $14 pt for POLy.

I don’t think RCI is a bad option. That’s what we went with and we have until the end of 2022 to use the points. I’ve searched through the options and there are many we would be happy with that we could drive to, including some near Disneyland. I’d rather not deal with renting and after taxes I don’t feel like it would really be better than RCI. We’re definitely not going anytime soon. I’m not in the camp that doesn’t care if I get sick considering I have a baby in my belly and 1 and 4 year olds to take care of as well.

As I mentioned on another thread, I have a lake home in another state. If I go there I have to quarantine for 2 weeks there and another 2 weeks when back in home state. Covid is not DVCs fault, I think they are doing the best they can. We try to stay in borrowing mode but had cruise cancelled and we cancelled one week in 3 bedroom at WDW. They put my borrowed points back into next year but I still have some I need to use and then all those cruise points. Sigh... But, what a first world problem.

I rented out my points through dvcstore.com. I gave them access to my account, had to sign a few PDF documents, and that was it. It was better than just losing my 72 points that were going to expire in December.
