Whats been happening with VGC points?

So, let's say VGC set up a temporary operating kiosk in the VGC lobby (how small that is) and opened up the resort. Would VGC owners be happy that they could not use the pool, the GCH lobby to cut through to DTD or to DCA?

I guess I don’t see why they wouldn’t open the GCH lobby? 🤷🏼‍♀️ They did for AK-Jambo. Granted no restaurants open at Jambo, but it’s literally a hallway/breezeway to get to DtD from the GCH lobby. Seems pretty workable to me.

Cuz they would have to have employees around?

Not sure if you have been to VGC, but there really is no lobby in that building. It uses the reception desk of the main building. The entrance is right at the elevators and then the hallway behind is rooms. I suppose a tiny mobile kiosk could be put in the elevator entrance area, but that will kind of defeat social distancing if people would need to wait for the elevator and check in in the same place. I am one that would go to VGC (for any of my upcoming reservations to use up banked points - October, November, January) even if the parks are closed. I live close and would seriously love to be in a different 4 walls for a few days! I would like the pool too, but that is not really a deal breaker since I have one where I live too. I would expect to be able to walk through GCH to get to DTD and to be able to come back (by showing the room key to stop non-guests from entering) that way when I am done in DTD.

I think the difference is that Jambo is building that is part of the AKV condo association, So, they opened up Kidani and from what I have read, not many CMs in the lobby of Jambo...if any at all other than one person directing people...though, it could have changed.

But, if someone wants to know the exact reason why they have not yet opened, they should write to Terri and ask to be provided with the legal reasoning,

Again, I do know loss of use is covered in contracts and i have posted that one option for owners when their resort is down, is to allow use at other DVC resorts, which they are doing. Nothing in the POS says those resorts need to be close by.

I will say that with the length of the closure, I could see a bigger credit than anywhere else when dues come out in a few months.

Right a credit would make sense. But in our county, where the schools were shut down in early March for the 2020 year, our property taxes are still going up. :sad2:

If you’ve been to DtD since it reopened, you will see that there is no shortage of employees present. They are literally everywhere. In my perhaps overly optimistic opinion, the GCH lobby would not really need more than 3-4 CMs to direct guests, protect the piano, and stay on top of mask regulations within that area.

I’m guessing it’s a state issue more than a Disney issue. Our state is so bonkers right now!🤦🏼‍♀️

I’m definitely hopeful for this!

Other than taxes, dues are based on actual operating expenses and DVCM has already indicated that any savings from the shut down...that is no offset by higher expenses like cleaning, extra staff, etc....will be given as a credit to offset what is owed.

For VGC, while some expenses will still be there, given they will be shut down for at least 6 months, I can’t imagine there won’t be something.

Disney is not providing the reason why. I have asked.

Disney is not providing the reason why. I have asked.

Asked Terri? Or a CM at MS? Frontline workers won’t know. When I questioned the closings in March, I took my questions to the management and got an email from a senior person....

People have had luck when emailing her directly...and I think one can ask to have someone from legal provide you, as an owner there, what and how it can remain closed.

As I and others have stated, it is probably too expensive without the hotel side being open. Oh well, that is on Disney. This is wrong of them and I think could possibly be lawsuit worthy if they don't open up soon.

I wrote an email and got a reply that they are not answering those questions via email or chat, which is odd in itself. Its idiotic that they would have staff jump through hoops like that to have an answer provided that should be public information.

Is it odd? Seems like someone doesn’t want the truth in an email that will get out in discovery.

I had and have both AUL & VGC reservations. I am keeping my NYE VGC res in hopes they open but have canceled Aulani and pivoted to a WDW stay next week. NBD. im no aware that of anything in the contract that says you have to be able to use your home resort or else. I'd be curious if so.

I would find Terri Shultz‘s email and then ask for her to call you. I have read elsewhere she was very good at responding and even calling people.

The POS documents have language as to what happens if a resort can not be used.

I think the bigger issue here is that they are not letting people use it. Big difference vs not able to be used.

But not being able to use it is the same thing and I think the issue is really whether based on the public health crisis, safety of employees and whatever else is happening in CA is enough to continue the closure legally.

They obviously believe that they have the authority to keep it closed and without something from them to dispute that, the loss of use clause Is one area that gives owners the options they are entitled to when a property is closed..that was my point. This situation is covered in the contract.

They allowed Downtown Disney to open sp obviously its not a health crisis or safety issue. Im not sure the contract covers arbitrary closures to protect the bottom line of the company.
