DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Happy Friday Eve Gents! DS is headed home as I type this which means of course good food and good drink for the next few days. Have a good one and stay safe!
Hey guys, when I left off, you may remember I was headed out of town for the weekend with a couple buddies. I’ve been home a couple days getting ready to go back to work for a couple weeks.
The weekend went well, except the weatherman lied; the wind shifted onshore and it was foggy at my friends house. So the trail I wanted to do was a bust. But since we were on a peninsula, we drove about an hour to the other (leeward) side and luckily it wasn’t foggy, just cloudy. We did a shorter hike to a place called Tickle Cove that has a cool sea arch. Pictures below as promised. The rest of the weekend was spent eating and drinking, so you know, pretty good.

Great Pics! Sounds like you had a nice get away from the "goings on" for a few days
Morning all. And it's back to the retired life for me. Made some more job applications. Of course, DW can't stop spending money, so I'll have to get something soon. I just wish it could be something of value instead of single serving ranch dipping sauce containers. Ugh.
Best of luck, something will work out for you.

Hey, Gents! Just a quick afternoon check in. Had a good day so far. The problem with the car wound up being the wheel bearing. They also found the serpentine belt in pretty bad shape, so I had them replace both. If I hadn't it could have caused more problems down the road, so better to spend the $$$ to get it done. It wound up costing over $800, but I was able to get a veterans discount, which took it down to $770....so not bad considering. I probably could have gotten it done cheaper at an independent shop instead of the dealership, but at least I know the parts are good. Well, that's all for now. Have fun.

Nice! It's been hovering around 0C here for several days with more in the forecast. Not ready for this yet.

Hate to tell you this, but today's been in the 70's here. I know it won't last, but it feels good right now.

Ah, ha! Good for him, though.

:thumbsup2

Hope your MIL is going to be okay.

Thanks.

dem's da brakes.

I got a break on this one....though I'm not sure it's a good thing or not price wise. It turned out to be the wheel bearing, and they found my serpentine belt was in really bad condition, so I had both of those replaced. I held off on the transmission fluid change and flush for now because I couldn't afford it. I did, however, get a veterans discount, so that brought my bill down from over $800 to around $770. Still expensive, but cheaper than it would have been.

You can have it. I have too many snow pictures already! I want sandy beaches and green plants.

I don't get out very often for snow pictures, I do have them, just not as many. I'll try and post one or two from years past to show you.

Congrats on getting off the sauce. :teeth: Hope something comes your way soon.

Continued prayers from MiL. Good news on the job for you. Hopefully, that will bring even more stability.

Thanks, man, appreciate it. With my supervisor now staying, I'm more secure in my position.

Absolutely. Keep us posted.

Thanks, I will.

I have never seen anyone more happy about a car repair.

Aaaaaaaand... a little part of me just died.

Believe it or not but I’d like to see that.

I have never seen anyone more happy about a car repair.

I hate having a car not working, so I'm very OCD about my car when it comes to it running properly. If I hear a knock, I'm getting it looked at. It's cheaper to get it done than to wait and have bigger problems down the road.

Sorry. Couldn't help it. Well, I could have, but you know.... :teeth: :rotfl2:

Believe it or not but I’d like to see that.

I'll try and post them. I don't think they're all that good, but then again I'm very picky about my work.

Not for long!!!

You're a cruel, cruel man. Totally understand.

Ditto. And... a lot of my more interesting photos were shot on Fuji Velvia film. Back in the day, ya know.

I always get my car fixed at the dealership. I know virtually nothing about cars, other than turning the key (or these days, pressing the button). If they say there's a problem I just want them to do whatever it takes to make the problem go away. I couldn't be bothered going all over checking prices at independant garages.

Speaking of cars and dealerships, since you're in Mass., I may have mentioned our US TV stations are the feed from Boston. Am I ever sick of seeing the vote Yes/No on Question 1 ads. Can you guys just decide already and move on? :p

Warranty repair, dealership every time...other repairs I try not to. Dealers charge crazy hourly rates and I think they like to fix things that don't need fixing.

I saw this the other day. Apparently it was from Twitter, although I didn't see it there:

Going with a female friend to get her car MOT'd. I love this. We do it every year. They ignore her entirely and talk to me, since I'm A Man. I know nothing about cars. She, however, was for many years the Chief Mechanic of a Formula One racing team. She will pick her moment.

Finally Friday, Gents! Man, so glad this week is OVER! That is all.

When I first learned to drive back in the dark ages of the 80's, I use to work on my own cars. My dad owned an auto parts store, so it was easy to get parts, except for when it wasn't. :teeth: I've done a lot of work on cars, but not the cars of today. When my car needs to get fixed, I always take it to the dealership. I know the parts are good, and the dealership I go to they know me, so they don't push all kinds of stuff on me. Actually, they'll tell me if I really need it fixed or could wait....so I trust them.

I'm getting tired of seeing those ads too, and come election day, we'll decide and you won't have to see those ads anymore. K? :teeth:

Warranty work? Of course it's the dealership, as well as with all my non warranty work...well, except for oil changes. I go to Jiffylube for oil changes because they're 2 minutes down the road and I can do it on a Saturday when the dealership's closed.

This both cracks me up and irritates me.

I mean, if you're gonna be OCD about something, that's not a bad one to choose.

It's really hard to find somebody you trust. I feel like the dealers generally are looking to gouge me.

That's been my experience as well. I hunted around for a while, finally found a garage run by a friend from my church. I figured if I can't trust him, I'm really in trouble.

Right?! Back in 2007 we had a tropical storm blow through the area. As you can imagine, the winds got to be pretty bad, so bad, in fact, that a tall pine snapped about 10 feet up off the ground. Had it not been for another tree that defected the tree into the house, it would have crushed my then brand new 2007 Hyundai Elantra, a car I no longer own. I was thankful for that. I'd rather it hit the house than my car...that's how protective I am of my cars.

It's really hard to find somebody you trust. I feel like the dealers generally are looking to gouge me.

I've been lucky with my dealer.

Happy Friday. Played tennis yesterday and enjoyed a nice, relaxing day. And, I received an email back from the therapist job that I turned down. They had hired for one position, but still had the 2nd available. I said I would take it. Now, just have to work out the details. I enjoyed a beer and a cigar last night with the firepit.

I emailed the retirement Board, and included the companies website information along with a quote from their annual, independent audit, citing cash flow and equity stock accounts, with a statement in the form of a question that it couldn't be considered a government agency. Now, I just gotta hope the lawyers are smart enough on this one.

Morning all.

Busy morning so far. Visit to the dentist for an old school cleaning because they aren't allowed to use the sonic, water based tools. Two video meetings for the rest of the morning and watching updates as a number of schools are in lockdown because of somebody barricading themselves in a house.

Hope you all have a great Thursday!

They are still doing the regular cleanings here. I guess medical professionals can disagree on the science. I had to use some mouth wash before they started, and the staff are wearing a face shield in addition to the masks.

Keep swinging away, you'll connect on one of these pitches.

Thanks. Kinda like dating? Ask enough girls out and eventually one will say yes. :lmao:

Best of luck, something will work out for you.

Thanks.

I hate care repairs too, but I found returning to the dealer was ultimately the best option. I had other mechanic shops look at stuff and try to fix it. They charged less, but eventually the same thing would malfunction again. The dealer repair place fixed it finally, but charged more $. So, I'll just return there.

As for small shops, I had found one that was decent and stayed with them a few years. Then, they didn't get around to my car after I had left it there for the day. Found another place that did good work for awhile. Then, on the drive home from an oil change, had to drive back to that shop because something was wrong. They charged me for the repairs, stating they couldn't have known there was an issue and their work didn't cause the problem. I paid and told them they lost a customer permanently.

I agree with you on the dealer repair trying to overcharge. So, I just hold off on their recommendation until the next oil change to see if they recommend it again.

Unless it's something serious, like changing the air in your tires. :lmao:

sheesh. good luck.

I'm more leery of small shops. Some are great, others...

Years ago I went to a shop because of noise coming from the back of the car. Was told "You need new struts and mounts". Okay. What do I know?
10 months later... same sound. I brought it back to the same shop. "You need new struts and mounts". "Great!" I said. That's under your warranty of 12 months."
"It is?" He replied. I still had my receipt and quoted it to him. They fixed the problem, no charge, except...
"Car's done. We replaced the struts."
"You didn't replace the mounts?"
"Nope. Wasn't needed."

Shyster. Never went there again.

Um... Rob? You know you're more of an insider around here than some of us, myself included, right?
But you're one of us! You have become the In Crowd.
And yes…
I know y’all are correct, but it sort’a depends on where the conversation is when I try to check back in.

I need to get past the notion that I’m perpetually unwelcome, but it’s a very old perception for me. In truth - and on the positive side - I basically feel utterly lost and out of place in just one particular location. The less positive thing is that the location in question is this planet.

Slightly inconvenient…

Ok, so I apparently need to work harder at interacting with other humans.
Let’s see…

think they should name something after me. Like a porta potty. "The

pkondz memorial crapper"

Has a nice ring to it. And you can sit on that ring, too.
“The Pkondz Memorial Crapper”
Hummmmm…

Not bad but you need to think larger.
Why settle for a single thing, when you could become part of an entire culture?

From now on I’ll be referring any porta potty as being a “Pkondz”.
Now you’re a word.

You’re welcome.

Now I'm curious to know what you did to rate that!
It’s the things that I’m -not- which limit me to that lesser level.

But then again, it’s a different set of things that I’m -not- that allow me the privilege of not landing even farther down the chain.

It depends on who's making the rules.
Possibly...

My thought on it is that the amount of perceived personal inconvenience is a more telling sign on who will or won’t accept a statute then the notion of whom or what created said rule.

watching updates as a number of schools are in lockdown because of

somebody barricading themselves in a house.
Wish I could find the old “Far Side” comic that this reminds me of.

The gist of it went:
John Smith has been barricaded in his house for two weeks.
But, he’s unarmed and nobody cares…

You know tendencies can be broken, right?
I suppose there’s some comfort in that.

Oh dear…
Does this count as a therapy session?
Pretty sure my insurance doesn’t cover such so I hope your rates are more like Lucy van Pelt’s then those of the average psychologist.

Count me among those that feels the place is better with your contributions and company.
And now I’m concerned for you psychological well being.
That’ll be five cents please….

Lisa: “…It’s a tick question!”

Judge: "Why is it a trick question? "

Lisa: “'Cause Chevy didn't make a 327 in '55, the 327 didn't come out till '63. And it wasn't offered in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb till '64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top-dead-center."

Except what your discussing ain't a movie.
Someone needs to video those actual encounters.
Seeing what goes on tends to affect more change then hearing about what goes on.

(or at least it makes such things harder to dismiss.)

Well then,
May these lawyers turn out to be smart enough.

(Not something I thought I’d say, to be honest)

Purtty….

I ain’t near the level of expert in terms of photography as some of y’all, but I’ve been known to take a decent snapshot here and there.

Maybe I’ll post a few around here - give me an "excuse" to post so to speak.
And the images ain’t doing much good if no one ever sees ‘em, now are they?

Here's a few from one on my travels...

Happy Friday and enjoy the weekend gents - stay safe!!
Isn't that every weekend for you?
For the most part, but DW turns it up a notch when DS is home in terms of home cooking full meals and lots of extra food with the intent of lots of leftovers for him to take back with him.
Jerry Krause GM of the Bulls championship teams. He was highly disliked in Chicago for breaking up the Bulls run - Jordan and Pippen could not stand the guy.

Good to hear the work thing worked out for ya and planning on a nice smoke and firepit this weekend myself - I know that is a regular thing too 8-)
