The WDW Comeback: Before/After Game

Hey guys, full recap and count for Remy’s coming later today. For now, new topic incoming:

Topic 9: Space 220 Restaurant
Will it open Before or After 12/1/2021?

Topic 9: Space 220 Restaurant

Will it open Before or After 12/1/2021?

I say Before - again, it is something that brings in revenue so I think there is desire to open it sooner rather than other offerings

It’s third party, right? That group wants to capitalize on whatever “bump” comes from the summer and the 50th.

Plus, assuming WDW capacity will increase between now and then, and opening a new restaurant makes it easier to space people than increasing any dining room. I’m sure they’d love 100% dining capacity, but will take what they can get.

It’s like Rat, mostly complete and waiting for a date (and staff, of course). I saw BEFORE.

It is run by Patina yes.

just to throw it out there, since everyone so far is saying "before" - what date would make some of you say after? 5/1? 9/1?
7/4. I think they’ll limp through Independence Day as is and then slowly trickle things and capacity toward Oct 1. I’d put the same after date on FotLK reopening.

Remy Recap
Topic 8: When will Remy's Ratatouille Adventure finally be open for ALL guests?
Will it be Before or After: Monday, 3/8/21?

Before: 7
After: 9

My analysis: There's a ton of buzz about Remy opening, especially with the bathroom and entrance now open. That all happened after the topic was announced, ironically.

The March date has been floating for some time, since last October IRRC. There is a window between the Art Festival (ends 2/22) and Flower and Garden Festival (starts 3/3) that could be a good time for a soft opening for the attraction. I would expect if the attraction is going to open in March, we would hear about it within a couple of weeks.

Looks like we got a pretty good split with the votes.

Some housecleaning:

New topics will come on Fridays going forward. After Topic 10, I'll post a summary of sorts - where all the votes went and the dates. Maybe it will lead to some good discussions.

At least one of the topics from the first batch of 10, will be revisited in the next set of 10.

Thanks for participating!

Might have made it a bit more sporting using 9/1 or 10/1. However none of us really know what the inside layout truly looks like in person since it never opened. For all we know there's not a lot of open space and narrow aisles internally (which would be normal for a real spacecraft). Had we a real sense of the internal arrangement or presentation, I think we'd be in a better position to guess.

It doesn't seem worth it to open a new spectacle restaurant during a time when you have to keep tables distanced, etc. It seems like it wouldn't generate net revenue. Plus, everyone would want to get inside to see --- even if they don't have reservations --- which would be a nightmare to deal with during social distancing.

I say Disney holds it back until it can open with a full menu at full capacity.

So to me, the question really comes down to whether Disney has ended capacity restrictions and social distancing by December 1 or not. I think Disney will do so as soon as the federal government (Dr. Fauci, basically) gives the green light, but not before that. Not that there will be a single date where we suddenly hit herd immunity and the government declares the pandemic 100% over. But I think there will be a date when the government says that it is sufficiently safe to open restaurants, bars, and theme parks at full capacity without mandated social distancing. Disney will likely have gradually increased capacity and reduced mitigation measures in the interim. But I doubt that restaurants and lounges will be running at full capacity until then. And I doubt that Disney opens Space 220 until then.

I'm going to be optimistic and say that that date comes before December. So I vote BEFORE as well. (But maybe that's mostly because I just can't stomach the very real possibility that we still have more than a year of this ahead of us.)

Cool thread! Sorry to have missed the fun so far.

I say before for Space 220. Mostly because we're planning a visit in March / 2022 and my kids really want to check out this restaurant. It has to be open by then!

I say before for the Space Restaurant. I would hope this will be open before the 50th Anniversary celebration. And I hope things have improved enough with the virus by then.
