Hi everyone!
Chunkymonkey here!
I'm back on the DIS! I missed it and all you guys but I needed a break from my computer.
Like almost everyone else I'm working from home in front of my computer all day long, so when it comes time to unwind, instead of logging on and getting on the DIS, I log off and just veg in front of my TV.
...and remember the good ol' times...
(pic is from March 2020, 4 days before Disney World shutdown)
In the past year like most of the world, I've mostly just stayed at home and watch the events play out on the news. We formed new WFH routines, we watched a lot of TV, did some DIY home improvement, I cooked a lot more, Steve built a mudroom and an outdoor garden, and we yearned for the days when things can go back to "normal"
We've had several trips and two cruises cancelled last year, but I still yearned for Disney. So much so that Steve and I made two trips to WDW in 2020 after it reopened. A short trip in August 2020, to test the waters, so to speak. It was hot as hell but Disney was so empty, it was actually quite lovely! We were very cautious but it was a little scary to be out and about (and flying!) since we really hadn't gone anywhere for months, but we felt safer at Disney than our local Costco!

Then we took a long almost 2-week trip in November 2020. to use up all the DVC points we had rented or were un-bankable at that point. We stayed at 4 different resorts and spent Halloween and our anniversary at WDW. We saw Halloween and Christmas decorations in the same week. It was a ton of fun too, but boy did it get more crowded within the time from August to November. It was also a really long trip though and we were pretty worn out by the end so we ended up staying in our resort a lot (it did rain for like 3 days at the end).

I was a little jaded after that trip and was tired of wearing masks in the heat, so I didn't have plans to renew my AP, which expired this past January. But before it expired, Chunkysis, who is celebrating a milestone birthday this year (she's turning 40 everyone!!!), said she'd like to go to WDW for her birthday in April. Since she came on a DCL cruise to celebrate my 40th, which was, ahem, a long long time ago, I thought I'd return the favor and help plan her 40th birthday in WDW. Which also meant I should probably renew that AP. Now with that renewal, it meant I could go for MY birthday in February, right? I mean doing the Disney math it makes perfect sense. So I asked Steve if we could go, and lo and behold, he said we could! His AP expires in April, right before Chunkysis's birthday trip, which he is not going to (yay sisters trip!). I don't know if he wants to renew, but I think I can convince probably him! (Or just buy it for him, whichever is easier! I think the latter)
Which brings me to this TR...I had planned this trip in about 45 days, and I actually had to MOVE our dates out just two weeks before we had to leave due to some things that came up. I thought it would be very chaotic with the changes but thank goodness for the flexible flight and hotel policies nowadays! But I know everything happens for a reason and it resulted in the most magical birthday week a girl could ask for! The weather was beautiful and I got to spend time with some Epic DIS friends as well! I truly felt the magic again thanks to my friends, family and everyone at Disney who made it so special and so I'm back on the DIS to spread the joy.
So stay tuned for a magical week with Chunkymonkey and Chubbyhubby!!
