AP Preview for VelociCoaster

For what it's worth, no shoulder restraints on coasters that go upside down are pretty much the norm now. Up here in Cedar Point there is Steel Vengeance which currently holds the world record for negative Gs (the feeling of you out of your seat) at 28 seconds. And you're just in a lap bar. I've ridden it multiple times and never had fear that I was unsafe or was going to feel like I was coming out.

Give it a shot! You can do it :)

we have CP passes and I finally rode Steel Vengeance and it is my favorite coaster ever. I have a bad back and it didn’t bother it at all. Can’t wait to ride Velocicoaster at universal this summer if we can get on it. I personally love the lap restraints over the over the shoulder ones.

Hi everyone, My DH and I just did the preview yesterday. We got right on even waiting for the front was maybe 10 minutes. A little background we are coaster junkies. I have been on pretty much every type. The one thing that I could have problems with is disorientation if the elements are too close together. I was worried at first looking at the track, but I am happy to say I didn't have the disorientation and was so happy.

The ride is awesome, it is a great coaster and so thankful to have it here, so as a resident I can try to ride it again once it opens. I will agree here with everyone, I thought the air time was great, (my favorite part) I was happy with the trains, I HATE over the shoulder harness. I thought the seats were comfortable with room to spare when the bar came down. The top hat was awesome and the inversion with the water was my favorite.

It is a definite high thrill coaster, and I think people really need to look at it, It may not be a first coaster for some who are nervous. If you decide to ride it good luck, enjoy and one thing I can say don't worry about falling out of the train.

We use to travel over 10 hours twice a year for CP. It is probably our favorite amusement park for coasters. Steel Vengence is amazing as is the rest of the line up. Top Thrill Dragster is one of my favorites, and going over the top hat on Velocicoaster is so different, it is fast. You will enjoy the Velocicoaster.

[...my DS is there now....we missed it by 5 days....]

Rode yesterday - so grateful to have had the chance so early!

I hadn't watched any spoilers.

It is not really a "story" like Hagrids. The line was wicked cool and the theming on the coaster was cool, but more whipping by the coolness and flipping around, rather than "interacting" with anything (ie, no mobile animatronics that I saw - there were raptors but I didn't see them move, although they vocalized as we passed). That low roll situation right over the lake is the absolute best!

It is a really well done coaster, with the theming to add extra wow. It is clearly aimed for those who like intense coasters, not for the big Jurassic fan who might enjoy a gentle coaster (those sorts will love the line, but shouldn't ride). You also wouldn't need any sort of Jurassic knowledge to enjoy the ride.

Launch coaster + creative inversions + rocks/foliage + occasional raptors/noises = awesome thrill coaster.

Thanks for the pictures and updates on the ride....it sounds and looks amazing!

Glad you got to ride it......:thumbsup2

I chickened out and cancelled our mini trip. My boss thought it was funny and was glad because we ended up having a compliance review at work. My daughter was okay with it. We are going in October and two weekends in December so she'll have someone who actually wants to ride go with her. I don't even know what I was thinking booking that thing.

Question for those who have ridden: How steep are the drops? How intense is it compared with other Universal coasters?

I HATE steep drops and the feeling they give you.

Love: Hagrid's (I go on this as many times as possible)
Like: Mummy
Don't care too much for Hulk (usually ride at least once per trip...but makes me disoriented and I grey out).
I really don't like Rip Ride Rockit' (bangs me around in painful ways, but the drops on it are tolerable).

I also enjoy all the Disney coasters.

Do you think I'd like this????

It has a lot of air time, meaning that weightless feeling where you fly up in your seat- it has A LOT of that. It is very smooth like hagrids, not at all jerky like rockit. I also don't like hulk and find it painful. I love hagrids, this is much more intense though.

That one obvious visible drop is your worry. It is as steep as it looks, and it feels it. It is also at slower speed at the top which makes it "slower" starting the drop as well. There are many inversions and lots of corners whipping amongst those jagged rocks. It is a very intense coaster. You will jostle around in the seat. You will experience air time on multiple occasions. But it is smooth.

Hulk is a rougher ride. Hulk remains the only coaster to consistently blow my mask down (multiple times each ride). For comparison, none of the Busch Gardens coasters blow down the mask either, and only once on Kraken out of several rides.

Haven't ridden it but this looks pretty intense and long.

Hagrid's is almost a kiddy/Disneyish roller coaster but great. It's not that scary. And the two dragons coaster that was there before was actually more intense.

I see that they did their soft opening today. Does that mean it will be open every day or just sporadically until June 10th? We’re going at the end of May, and I really want to ride this!
