To Go or Not To Go

I assume @cakebaker is suggesting that Disney partner with a health provider to run testing - not that Disney would run the testing itself. So people would be expected to do the same thing that they would if they were to get tested somewhere else.

FYI, you can get a covid test at the Orlando Airport (https://centracare.adventhealth.com/urgent-care/covid-19-testing-orlando-international-airport) as well as other airports. I haven't heard of any concerts that offer covid testing, but I have read about some that require a proof of vaccination, but I don't think Disney is allowed to do that because of the ban in Florida.

Thats what I was thinking---- if not in the parks, maybe an area (in partnership) maybe near the parking area? I only mention it because the shopping area by our house set up a testing area in the parking area a few months ago- Reason being that there a number of large stores (Best Buy, Target, etc) and restaurants, in this center. Guess they figure these are places that attract a large amount of people, and they want anyone that is concerned to take the time and get tested. We used them as soon as we returned from Disney, and the three of us had terrible colds ! (thank goodness, all tested negative)

After going back and forth for days, my DD (18) and I decided to cancel on upcoming trip. We were to arrive 8/26 for 5 days at Boulder Ridge. We are both vaccinated, but our biggest worry is that if in the unlikely event she did contract Covid she couldn’t move into her dorm on 9/1, and her first few weeks away at college are something that is very important to her. We will try again in January.

So what do they do with people who test positive and didn’t drive to WDW - put them on Disney bus? They can’t go back to any hotel or airport. Have taxi pick them up and infect the driver? Send to the hospital? What about other family members they are traveling with? Where do they quarantine? They don’t test at airports, concerts, casinos etc. This is a theme park not an international border.

They do testing at the airport, that was what sort of started this discussion.

And Disney would do the same thing with a guest who tested postive that they do with every infected guest they don't know about- nothing. I'm simply saying an on site testing facility would be very nice to have. It's sticking your head in the sand to act like because no one tests on site there are no cases on site.

AdventHealth Centra Care Lake Buena Vista is about 5 minutes from disney springs, and does covid testing. You can even make appointments online (and they seem to have a lot of spots open)

This is what I am planning to do also, with my 15 month old and 5 year old. Half day max at parks and only if the crowd levels are below a 3. I took my eldest at that age and it was hard on my back, carrying him through all the lines! At least at the resort (poly) he will be able to roam. Did you have a good time at the resort with your kiddo? What kinds of activities did you do?
Ds wouldn’t wait in any lines so we only rode 3 things that were walk ons. Just walking through the Nemo que made him antsy. He wanted to walk himself but go the wrong direction so he cried when we picked him up. He’s kind of a mess right now with all of the independence stuff. Boardwalk was good but not my first choice with a toddler. The “splash pad” is a 1 ft deep circle pool. Ds liked it but it was nothing special. The playground was in the fenced in pool area so didn’t open until 10 am. There wasn’t a lot of room for a toddler to run. We didn’t do any activities but we were in the pool when they were doing some trivia and one of the lifeguards gave Ds a rubber duck which was super nice

Which airports? We flew into six major airports this summer and no testing whatsoever?

We decided to cancel. Florida isn’t doing enough/anything to make us feel comfortable travelling there. We are sad but feel like it was the right decision for us.
A state can’t guarantee safety from a virus. These boards love to bash Florida but everyone sure is trying to vacation there. Maybe try Disneyland instead if not happy with Florida’s policies.

My husband and I are on the fence about taking a quick trip in September. I have never seen Happily Ever After in person, and am desperate to do so before it ends. He and I are both vaccinated, however our kids are not. They would stay with grandma while we're gone, but I am concerned with bringing it home to them.

So far, we are still moving ahead with our early October trip. Just two vaccinated adults. But I imagine my sister, who has a unvaccinated child, is getting more nervous about possibly bringing something home to him. But, we have some time to see how the situation evolves. I have access to free testing at work that is basically available on demand with less than 24 hour turn around. And I can work from home. She's a teacher and has much less flexibility.

According to posters here, MCO has testing available. I'm not familiar with what other airports do, but I'm sure MCO is not the only one. It is not free testing, $175 is what I read.

I read on another forum that the cost for testing at the airport was $175 oop. Since we've never paid for testing here at all, I was really surprised to find that in Florida, or at least near WDW, the only way to get tested promptly was to pay for it.
I know someone who lives in Cocoa, not far from Orlando. I learned from her that the only way to get a test in that area is to pay for it yourself. VERY different from my home state.....

We were planning a trip for Feb. as of now, we are in a hold pattern and assuming we will cancel.
Honestly so many things can change by then. I personally would plan ahead to go and check how things are in December.

Its been mentioned several times in this thread that MCO does. From a super quick Google search, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Indianapolis, Denver, JFK, SFO all do. I'm sure there are plenty of others.
All international airports offer testing in some form ( either on site or through a third-party provider near the airport) . Often a requirement for country of destination.

Disneyland Paris also has test facilities on site before the entrance. If you’re not vaccinated You need to be tested before entering the park

I don't blame you. I agree with you. I'm glad that Disney is at least trying to make things more safe by implementing CDC guidelines. If Disney followed Florida, I would cancel too. I hope you can reschedule and return when things settle down.

I’m posting here because we really struggled with the decision to go or not to go on our trip last week. We are a family of four, all vaccinated. My kids are 18 and 20, and I fear every family trip will be our last, so I really wanted to make this work.

Our plans included 2 days at Universal followed by 5 days at Disney.

We ended up canceling the Universal portion because they did not re-instate a mask mandate, and we went to the beach instead. We kept the Disney portion scheduled after they re-instated their indoor mask policy and decided to also mask outside whenever we were in crowds. We were also okay skipping things because we've been to Disney many times. This was our first time during the pandemic.

As it turned out, it was hard to avoid people and we were probably masked 95% of the time outside too. We would duck into more remote areas for mask breaks because it was so hot (the Animal Kingdom was the best place to be overall for this).

We ate lunch inside twice to escape the heat. The rest of the meals were outside.

A lot of people were good about masking in lines, some were pretty bad about it. Maybe 80% compliant, 20% with noses hanging out and/or masks pulled down.

There were a few times when I felt uncomfortable… in the Flight of Passage line when there were technical issues and we were stuck inside the queue and also when being crammed in before entering the Mickey’s Philharmagic theatre. We skipped Happily Ever After, but did watch Epcot Forever, because we found a spot where we could distance.

Honestly, the hardest part was waiting to be tested after we got back. Every sneeze, sniffle, throat tickle, etc. made us nervous. We all got negative tests yesterday.

All in all, I am glad we went, but it wasn't as relaxed as usual, and we will probably wait to go back. It was just too difficult to avoid people, especially in queues.
