How about a new SKYLINER Route !

Now hear me out ! What about a Skyliner station at SSR /DS to OKW to The Front of EPCOT. There anyone can transfer to the Monorail to MK. Also links the Monorail resorts to Disney Springs by transfer @ EPCOT. Also a Skyliner from OKW to POR to AKL to AK. With a double transfer station @ OKW the Whole World would be hooked up without a Bus route.

I'm sure there are some supportive and some, like us, that say we sure hope not. Please don't destroy the peaceful look and feel of resorts like OKW and AKL with the towers and wires eyesore dangling overhead. Just not something we want to see - and since buses are still going to be required as backup when Skyliner is down, I think we'll just ride the buses. Not sure why I'd want to change Skyliner and then ride 2 monorails when I can already take one bus!

But I'm sure expansion is on a whiteboard somewhere at Disney!

I'm sure Disney would love it and I wouldn't be surprised to learn they've already drawn up plans if not started getting estimates, the Skyliner has got to be immensely cheaper for them to operate vs. all these buses.

Crossing over the highway leading into Epcot? Won't happen. Besides, bus transportation to/from Epcot at OKW and SSR is pretty quick, once the bus leaves the property.

Doubt Disney would even consider this for DS (or a stop at SSR convenient to DS). It would just encourage people to park there to go to the parks and avoid parking fees.
They could make it for Resort Guests only. IE Have to use Magic band or Room key to get on at DS.

If they could somehow link MK and AK to the Skyliner that would be awesome. That would be a long ride though.

Could, but will cost money to enforce and invite confrontations that most CMs would strongly prefer to avoid. I just don't see enough benefit to Disney to do this, especially now when capital is especially precious.

On opening day for the new Skyliner route, parking fees at the DS garages would be implemented and cost as much or more than parking at the parks. And that Skyliner route would not start running until opening time for DS, not in time for rope drop at the parks.

I could see an AKL-AK-CSR-All Stars route, though.

I would like skyliner to go to MK, but with monorail and buses I doubt it will happen.

But if they could get it to AK somehow, that would be outstanding. It's the only park (I think?) that has no other convenient public transport method to get to it except buses or I guess Lyft. It's crazy there is no easy way to get to it even from AKL. Plus it's a quiet system so wouldn't create noise issues for animals.

Don't agree with earlier worry about the visuals, loud smelly busses and huge parking lots full of cars are far uglier than the skyliner, and if done similar to the Riviera where it's off to the side and out a bit, it's not even a visual concern regardless and still just a five minute walk.

I doubt the stores and restaurants at DS would be OK with charging to park.

If they're going to make visiting DS punitive, or penalize the Skyliner route, they don't need to bother doing it at all - and perhaps that's why they haven't yet.

I am sure there would be support for this idea, but as a DVC owner at both SSR and OKW, I do not want the cost of building, operating, and maintaining it to be added to our annual fees. (not to mention having to deal with the additional foot traffic going through our resorts)

Personally, I prefer the boat ride to get to DS. 8-)
Now, if they could figure out how to get the boats to go over to EPCOT and/or HS....... :cool1:
.

Here‘s my idea - build a new resort north of Western Way near Animal Kingdom. Build another three way Skyliner hub at the new resort. One leg goes to AKL, one leg goes to All-Stars with a mid station at Blizzard Beach, third leg goes to front of Epcot with a mid station at CSR. Build a new gate at the back of AK that goes to new resort and new Skyliner station. Build an “Outback” trail that goes from the new gate to Asia just west of the bird show. This trail would also connect to the path between the train station and conservation station.

I would love to see an expanded Skyliner but I doubt it will happen.

I can’t answer the question- what is in it for Disney

If a new resort is built I could see a Skyliner being built from that resort and connecting to other resorts along the route.

I think the next line/area, will be AK, ALL STARS, CORD SPRINGS.
West side of property .
A line that will pick up/connect at the turn going to EPCOT.
A hub like at Caribbean close to Blizzard Beach since there is land there.

SHOW ME THE MONEY !!!!
The skyliner is cheap in long run than busses, and drivers.

How many of you remember back a few decades ago when you used to have to show a resort id (pre-MBs, of course!) or a park ticket to get on Disney transportation? They bagged that admin piece after several years.......
