25 extra points - rent?

We will likely have 25 points that we won't be able to use before they expire. We are new to all of this so I was thinking I should just try to rent them out on a site like https://dvcrentalstore.com/ Have people had good experiences doing this?

Does it make more sense to rent the points out? Or make an actual reservation and try to rent that? I really want to do what's easiest since I've never done this before.

Brokers often have a minimum amount of points they accept for renting, 25 aren't much.

maybe tried to book a place with the point and see if someone wants to take the reservation on a discount

I would assume someone will have a need for small booking (ie: if you can find a studio for a weekend then book it and post it around to see if someone wants it)

You could also rent them on the Disboard. When do they expire?

Rentals, through rental agencies, and online through members, are not actually of the points themselves. A “rental of points” is just a euphemism for someone making a room reservation for another using points, and that other pays an amount charged per point used to make the reservation.

So to rent only 25 points through one of the agencies, means you would be paid to make a reservation using those points. And to go through an agency may be difficult because it might require that you have availiable more than 25 points.

25 points do not go far, at most 2 nights in a studio in some resorts for some parts of the year (25 is not enough for two nights in others). Moroever, even if you get someone to rent, that two night reservation is not likely to equal exactly 25 points. You could possibly do an actual reservation and then try to rent it, and agencies do take those, although they may not do it if it is for only one or two nights. Moreover, they need to find someone who wants exactly what you are renting and that can be difficult.

It is possible there could be a rental because sometimes those desiring to rent are only looking for a night or two in a studio, but usually the desired rentals require more nights.

The alternative to the above is an actual transfer of points to another member. An issue with transfers, besides finding someone to transfer to, is finding anyone who wants just 25 points. Both the transferor and transferee are limited to one transfer per use year, and thus anyone who needs more than 25 points is not going to do a transfer for only 25 points, and those who need less, will not take the extra points. Also, though it does not appear DVC has ever stepped in to prevent a transfer for money, there is an actual DVC rule that prohibits anyone from being paid for a transfer. Rental agencies usually do not engage in transfer activity, and you would likely need to use another method, such as finding someone online to do a transfer to.

Does it change anything if those points are with VGC as the home resort? Or is it the same story?

Might not be worth the hassle to do anything with them, I guess.

Personally I would book something with the points and see if you can sell the reservation to someone or give it to a family member/friend or something. Don't just donate those points to Disney by letting them expire.

25 points isn't many, but it's more than I'd be willing to just wave away.

Book a weekend at any resort you can and rent the confirmed reservation for 16- 18 a point - I would even gamble and pay for 1-2 OTU points if you could get a Friday / Saturday at BLT or Poly - lots of Florida/ Georgia residents will snap up a 2 day reservation last minute and just go to use the pools with the kids for the weekend.

I’ve have rented out as little as 10 points with Davids. It was easy. They said they always have people looking to add on one or two nights.

It only changes things if you can snag a night with those points at VGC…if not, then your points are worth the same As all the other points out there.

There is no reservation at VGC that would use 25 points. The only VGC reservation you could get unless you could add more points is for a studio for one night for less than 25 points.

Also, you mention that you "will likely have 25 points that we won't be able to use before they expire." I am not clear on what that means, but if they are already into the 9th month of the use year, and thus cannot be banked, they would have to be used for a reservation that ends no later than July 31, 2023. If so, then based on the VGC point chart, the only time you could use them for a night that costs less than 26 points is for a reservation between April 16 and June 25, 2023, which means they cannot be used for VGC at all because every night during that period the VGC studios are already full. You might be able to find a night or possibly two at another resort for time before August 1, but the fact they are VGC points would not make any difference.

Our contract, via resale, just closed this week. June UY. The sellers banked 25 points from 2022 into the 2023 year. So they don't expire until May 31st, 2024. We are maybe 95% sure we won't be making a Disney trip until June 2024. I'm trying to figure out my options since I'm so new to this.

I had points that were going to expire too. I booked a few 1 and 2 night reservations for May and was able to rent them quickly through a broker. Mostly I booked weekend Saratoga 2 night, or a one night at Poly or CC... but I was able to make roughly $12-13 pp on points we weren't going to be able to use anyways. (I take that $$ and buy Disney gift cards towards next years dues).

It doesn't hurt to book and list!

If you need a few points to make a confirmed reservation instead of purchasing OTUP you can use from the allotment of your 2023 points but I wouldn't use too many as VGC points are like a diamond in the rough
