DSis is out there now (not jealous AT ALL) but good old Virgin have managed to bash up her suitcase pretty badly. She doesn't have a car to get to a mall so any sugegstions for what to do on the way back? Needless to say she doesn't feel inclined to drop $180 for a Mickey suitcase which is all thats available at the WDW:mad:. Has anyone ever seen duck tape or parcel tape for sale anywhere within WDW? I suggested she ask at reception (they're staying at Pop) and see if Mousekeeping might have something to hold the suitcase together until she gets home

Another vote for the amazon option.

I had the same thing happen with BA last year in March. The suitcase had to be tied together just to lift it off the carousel it was so bad. I ordered one from amazon.com and sent the receipt to BA who reimbursed me. (I contacted them first to find out what their procedure was so have your sister check with VA to see what the policy entails if she is making a claim). Also make sure she has lots of photos of the messed up bag. What a pain in the butt :(

I'm going to add one more thing. :D I don't recommend taping the suitcase. If the airline is able to destroy a perfectly whole piece of luggage, I'd be worried about what would happen to something already damaged and taped. I'm sure you've seen them throwing the suitcases around at airports. I've had a fork lift go through a bag and had items of clothing, including my knickers appearing randomly on the carousel at least five minutes before the punctured suitcase showed up behind it. :rolleyes1

OMG-that is one of my biggest fears each time we land, that all my worldly goods will be on display for the whole airport to see! Or even worse, the shipping order of Ghiradelli will have fallen out! Thnaks for the advice everyone, I've emailed your suggestions to her so we'll see what she decides to do!

Did she go to the airline when she got her damaged luggage? We had a piece of luggage get a huge slice in it from the plane. When we landed in Orlando, we took the damaged luggage to customer service and they gave us a brand new piece of luggage (a little bigger as they didn't have the exact size of our suitcase). We just transferred everything from the damaged luggage to the new luggage.

I'm sorry but this made me laugh!!!!

when I had something similar happen with British Airways they provided us with a new suitcase, which was delivered to where we were staying. I would speak to the airline before spending any money to check what there policy is.

No need to be sorry It's hilarious now (funny thing though - I had a sense of humor failure at the time!) Of course I walked away from there as though the 'smalls' had absolutely no ties to me whatsoever :D

Actually you're right - losing the chocolate would be worse! I'd suck up the shame to save my chocolate!

Also, in case it makes a difference, I did not deal with this at the airport at the time. I'd been held up coming in and DH was driving around waiting for me to pick me up at the no parking pick up point so I made an on the spot decision to risk it and just leave and deal with it later. The airline was very good about it. They asked why I never went to the desk at the airport and I told them the truth. I had no cell signal in the building and someone was driving around in circles waiting for me. They still reimbursed me the full cost of the new bag. I hope it works out for her.

(for those eavesdropping)

... held up coming in and ... was driving around waiting ... to pick me up ...

Me? I would go file the damaged bag claim immediately rather than take the chance the airline declines to process a claim filed hours later. Hint: If your cell phone doesn't work in the building, go out to the curb and try to call and then come back inside to go to the claims desk.

Long long time ago, before cell phones were invented, I would go pick up folks at the airport and, if they were not out waiting, I would go out and roost somewhere (such as in a bank parking lot) for 20 minutes or so before coming back around. Even back then, the airport guards wouldn't let drivers sit outside the terminal. They also had marked areas for private cars, buses, shuttles, taxis, etc.

Hmmmm. Before choosing and booking a limo or towncar, ask the company how it deals with customers delayed further by mishaps such as this.
