Star Island or Silver Lake?

I am looking at Skyauctions and if the inventory stays the same I have narrowed it down to these two resorts for our travel time. Any yay's or no's for either?

My wife and I love Silver Lake. Smaller resort with nice units and facilities and great location.

Silver Lake is less than 3 minutes to Animal Kingdom from its Sherberth Rd entrance. Star Island would be 10 min to get on Disney Property then more to whichever park you're going to.

Stayed at Star Island a couple of years ago and loved it. Granted it was December and not much need of pools etc. Very spacious room set ups with plenty of space to spread out and get away from each other after long days at the parks.

We've stayed at Silver Lake several times thru SkyAuction and haven't had a bad unit yet. While the newer buildings are nice, some of the older units have been refurbished and also quite nice inside.

Gotta love Silver Lakes location! Ideal for AK and easy access to restaurants and groceries on 192.

We have been to Silver Lake last June and have another trip in a few weeks. We loved it and are happy to go back. The main pool was very nice, but there was a smaller pool right next to the main pool that my kids loved. Silver Lake allows floaties in the pool (Disney doesn't), so we made a Target run to pick up a few, and the kids had a ball. The units were large enough for us and clean. The unit we had was a bit dated, but we were ok with it. The staff was all very polite.

We booked a week at star island and the room and resort it's self was so awful that we left and ended our vacation early!!

staying there this Dec have not heard bad things about it.

okay changing my mind - it has some pretty bad reviews on tug. looks like the whole resort needs a rehab.

the internet system was one of the main complaints plus the bathrooms and kitchens not being cleaned or having the stuff they were suppose too - the kitchen no oven, in the master bathroom no towels or toilet paper.

hope my visit is better.

Hmmm, checked the reviews on TUG and they are only garnering one review per year average. Some good, some bad, and we all know that it is the bad experiences that most often get reported. Most of the buildings there have been renovated, the first review was in 300 which is one of the last buildings to be done. Our last stay we were in a reno'd unit in one of the older buildings. Wasn't up to Sheraton/Marriott/Hilton level, but was HUGE, clean and comfortable. I wouldn't worry too much, but if you get a bad unit, don't be afraid to ask (insist) for a change. Overall the resort is a nice comfortable place with great access to Disney.

We've been driving past Silver Lake each day that we've gone into the parks on Sherbeth road and I've been thinking about what a great location that would be!

Although it would be hard to get me not to book a private pool home while we still have napping babies. We are in a 4 bedroom Indian Creek home this week and it's been priceless to swim in the pool with our toddler while the baby naps inside. Definitely couldn't do that at a resort.
