Something gross I found out about where not to watch the parade!

Ok sorry if this is a known thing, but I didn't know and wish I did two nights ago, so I'm passing it on.

We were sitting curbside on main street waiting for the parade. I didn't realize I was sitting right on top of a "vent" where the street and curb meet. Well, it's a sewage vent. So guess what was crawling all around my feet and on my (Halloween costume) dress? Cockroaches. Yup. Big ones. Scared the bejeezus out of me. The people sitting next to me had them crawling on their backpacks.

I alerted guest services so they would be sure to spray or do whatever they do. And yes, I realize cockroaches in a sewer is not surprising, I just didn't know to watch out and be sure to sit elsewhere! Bueurk. I'm a bit traumatized now! Lol.

Stay safe out there everyone!

A sewer vent on Main Street? Are you sure it wasn't a drainage vent? I can't imagine Disney having a sewer vent so apparent to guests. Either way, yucky! That gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

Wow, wow, wow. I would have freaked! I don't know if it's a known thing, but I didn't know. Thanks for the warning!!!

I'm not surprised about the roaches.

just kidding! :D

Where were you sitting on Main Street? In front of/opposite which stores? I'm sure Disney has taken care of the problem by now. They sure wouldn't want this to escalate into a huge issue.

Well, there have been multiple animal/critter issues over the decades.

Disney has a couple of sets of Feral Cats they take care of in Vet checks and making sure the population doesn't get too big. They are there to help the rodent issues.

One of my favorites was when Winnie the Pooh first opened. The way they designed the queue, when the fireworks went off, CM's were known to put on raincoats, due to the fact the birds in the trees got scared, and the "droppings" came falling down. They did improve the queue to offer more protection from above.

As one of those who have been allowed in the park after hours and the cleaning crew is busy working, they find them on a regular basis, and they are told to report them immediately by contacting a special crew, which spends every night working to insure that the resort is as pest free as possible. But with so much open space, and open water, it just part of nature.

There are also issues with the birds, as some are Federally protected, so there are limits to what Disneyland can do and use.

And yes, Disney will even close down a restaurant, or at least the backstage cooking/prep area if needed to take of the problem, and why you might find an unscheduled restaurant closure, with the sign "Please visit our other nearby food locations".

I had this exact thing happen to me at DCA prior to the 'remodel'. I was sitting on the curb eating an ice cream in front of what is now Trolly Treats waiting for a parade and a roach came up from one of the drainage vents. I was freaked out!

Yes drainage vent! Thank you. But to be honest it smells like a sewer.

In front of Carnation Cafe

wait a minute, wait just a freakin minute-werent you in the BB reserved dining area? you mean to tell me that you paid extra to sit in a special spot that had a roach problem? Ok I need confirmation that this issue has been cleared up or my res is so canceled. I am horrified by roaches and I will have a $70 custom birthday cake with me that I am having delivered to the BB dinner. I am not spending that kind of money for a spot that had roach trying to get to my birthday cake.

What kind of confirmation are you looking for? Guest reports? Or Disney? Don't think they're going to do that, even if they could (get rid of all roaches at drains.) I definitely would NOT like to sit with roaches either. Not because I paid extra or because I brought something extra. Because they are gross, regardless of the seating area. Hopefully you'll be able to find a roach-free spot though, even if you decide to cancel your res.

You are having your cake delivered to the curb of main street?

No its being delivered to the BB dinner and I will have it with me after the dinner when we sit down to watch the parade. Now I'm creeped out at the idea of have food with me in an area that may be crawling with pests. yuck!

When we got a cake they escorted us out of the park with it. Had to take itback to hotel.

Only the area above the vent had roaches, and that would be any area above a vent anywhere along main street. Not just the reserved area. If I sat 2 feet over I would not have had an issue. That being said, I now know for future parade viewing. Stay clear of vents, just in case. The vent is only about 3 feet wide. So just look before sitting and you'll be fine. But yeah, it was gross!

I hate to say it and gross everyone out, but this has happened to us twice now. Once during a Halloween Party and once waiting for Paint the Night (about two years apart). We were in different areas each time. We only experienced a single roach in our cases...they were huge though!

thanks for clearing it up that it was pretty confined to just the vent area. I will be steering clear of that area for sure.

I asked when I made the reservation and ordered the cake through disney dining if it would be an issue getting it at the party since we won't be leaving the park with it and they said no.
