Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

For Daylight Savings, the thing to remember is "Fall Back" and "Spring Forward." So back one hour in the fall. The good news is if you forget you won't be late, you'll be very early!

Last year I had a breakfast ADR that morning and thought I had overslept. I raced into the restaurant (I thought an hour late) apologizing profusely. The CM looked at me like I was a complete moron and explained daylight savings to me like I was 6! :o I'm from the other side of the world - how was I to know :confused3

That doesn't sound very nice of them. Glad you weren't late!

Turns out my iPhone was on top of the time change even if I wasn't! :-)

It was all good - when I explained where I was from, and that I had literally just flown over 20 hours to get there so was a bit jetlagged she backed off and was more understanding.

12.5 done! It went better than the 11 miles last week so I feel much better for 2 weeks. I am glad I had the hiccup with my ankle and didn't have to do 14 today. I never want to run this far again. I don't enjoy it.

I did 3.5 miles yesterday and 9+ today. I was hoping the route I did today would get me to 10, but it didn't. :( I should have done another loop around a couple blocks to get up there. Something about 10 just would have sounded better! But oh well. The weather was so perfect today and I'm glad I got out there and at least did over 9.

My knee has felt a little weird, no pain, just a little off after a sports massage. So, I had one more 10 miler scheduled tomorrow and I am going to skip it. I get so bored on long runs and it starts killing my excitement to run. And today I went back to check my past runs on runkeeper and discovered I have never run much more than 9 before a half. (I did a run or two where I split it up and ran again the next morning to finish because of bad weather though). And I have never had trouble finishing races. So, I decided to just skip the 10 and stick to more tempo and speed work, with one more 10k to keep it up for the next week. My breathing has always been my trouble spot more so than hitting the distance anyway.

This is a good point!!

10 days to go for me!

While I'm impatiently waiting for the days to go by, does anyone want to help me with my food decisions on this trip? This is my first time going solo, and I don't want to make any dining reservations.

Here's what I am thinking.

Wednesday afternoon arrival
DHS to see Star Wars Fireworks
Dinner at Brown Derby Lounge

Thursday
- Expo in the morning and then Animal Kingdom
Dinner at Nomad Lounge
Still hoping that ROL might happen

Friday
- Epcot in the Morning and afternoon at DS
Dinner at Blaze Pizza (carbo loading)
Back to room by 7pm

Saturday - 10K and then MK
I am really undecided about this day. Maybe I'll go back to Epcot and wander F&W before MK, or do a monorail resort restaurant. Or go back to ASMusic and eat at the food court.
Back to room by 7pm

Sunday
- Half and then Epcot
Planning to eat (and drink) my way around the world!
My ME time will be somewhere around 7am on Monday so I don't think I will be at the party too late.

Monday - early departure

I remember my sister telling me in 2013 when I was training for my first half that if you can run 10, you can run the half -- especially with the added excitement of race day!

Being Type A, I didn't want to take that chance. Ran all the way up to 13 before to MAKE SURE I could do it. Since then, we go up to 12 max -- it'll be 10 this time, I think, unless we decide to go further today. I'm not worried, though! :)

I had hoped to run 8-10 yesterday but got in 5. Go figure 1 week before leaving we have strep and hand foot and mouth in the house! Ugh! Let's hope I don't get it. I hope to get a long in midweek as we leave Sunday morning. Oh and that 5 miles was the first run since my 10K last Sunday! Eek!!

What are everyone's thoughts on doing long runs close to race day? I don't know if I'll actually do it, but I have a day off this coming Friday and am contemplating trying to go out for 10 or so miles if the weather is nice. Would you do it or should I just be satisfied with the 9.4 I did yesterday and stick with a few shorter runs for the next couple weeks? I obviously don't want to risk getting injured and there probably wouldn't be any benefit to it.

As I've never been more then 6.5 miles I can't say....right now all five of my scheduled runs leading up to the 10k are 2 milers should I up the distance of some of those?

I've said before I'm a RunDisney newbie and this is my first timed 10k

This is going to be a "non-answer" answer. I think you know your body best. Have you done back-to-back long runs like that before? How are you feeling today (and tomorrow)? Do you really need the distance, or are you a veteran with a well established base? These are all the factors I would consider.

Just wondering, for those who have been-there/done-that, how long does it typically take to get through the finish line and back to your resort? Not having to meet up with anyone, and if it matters staying at Port Orleans. Is an hour a reasonable estimate, or am I well over/under?

Nomad Lounge is AMAZING. And do F&W as much as you can! It is really great for solo dining.

I had something similar told to me - if you can run half the distance you can run it all. Particularly when you go past the 10k distance I am just not sure how much pushing it will help, other than for confidence. As a veteran, I think I feel ok there. And past 9 or 10 I tend to start having random sore spots, never fails. So I just don't want to risk that. I am just going to focus on pace (I do consistently do speed work) and get my body more comfortable keeping that up for longer distances. I have a 10k planned for this afternoon. A sort of speed bootcamp, if you will. Gorgeous weather here for it!

I don't know I would do it a week out. Two weeks I probably would because 2 weeks rest can usually help almost anything. But, 1 is a little more iffy. I am planning a 10k next weekend, probably at race pace, to keep my body conditioned and loose. Maybe that would work for you as well?

Is anyone selling an after party ticket they no longer need? I saw a lot of posts on the facebook group and everyone seems to be selling one for $50 to try and unload it. I think that is my compromise for my cousin who will only be staying until 11. She didn't want to spend the money so I think I will just buy her one and this way I won't feel as bad about it! Just thought I would ask here and help someone unload first!

I wouldn't but that's me. I have read that anything less than 10 days before won't benefit you, so that 10 may do more harm than good. Friday I plan on 7-8 for my long run. As others said you know yourself best and how quick you recover.

Not too long, 10 minutes maybe depending on if you wait to do your medal picture with photo pass. They move people through fast it seems so areas don't clog up. They may have characters/backdrops out after too so you may want to do those. The longest part will be waiting for a bus back to your resort. An hour to me seems about right I suppose.

I'm in the 'listen to your body' camp.

10 miles before a 13 miler I personally don't see as a problem (and really no dif between 9 and 10). The bigger question is what do you want to achieve?

I'm currently training for a few marathons .. I try to mixup speed drills, distance and short(er) runs. I run a couple double digit runs on back to back weekends, but one is usually something squirrely ... 3 min above race pace, 3 at, 3 lower ...etc ... basically just getting the miles and time ... and working hydration strategies and such.

Between the Paris races and W&D, my plan is truly a hybrid.

Just my 2 cents

Brian

I'm packing some pants, jacket, hoodie & my Dopey sweatshirt for park touring if I need them. For the races I'm wearing tanks and skorts, but I'll bring a few throwaway items just in case for waiting in the corrals along with mylars. I figure pack a little of everything just in case.

This will be my first Run Disney race and I'm doing the challenge. Do you use the mylars to stay warm while in the corrals or do you put them in the gear check bag for after? I'm wearing tank and shorts/sparkle skirt for both days and I know I'll be chilly that early in the morning no matter what temp it is. I'm trying to decide between using the mylar or buying something to throwaway...cheapest option will probably be what I go with since I'll be buying 2 of whatever to throw away.

People certainly do either or these things -- really just a preference, I think. I have a thin jacket that I run in when it's a little colder out. I wear it while in the corrals (I'm always in shorts and tshirt) then tie it around my waist for the race. Now I know that wouldn't work for some who care about costumes and such, but that is not me! :)
