RC vs Disney deposit

I have a Disney cruise booked for next September. However, I could save a lot of money by booking with RCL instead. The problem I am having is the deposit. I am looking at a cruise that totals $1200 on RC, and the deposit is $1000! What am I missing? My DCL deposit is $480 for a $2900 cruise.

Sure, but an 80% deposit seems a little absurd. I might as well not even bother booking in advance and just get a last minute deal.

I'm guessing you're a party of 4 on a 6-9 day cruise.

$100 pp for 1-5 days
$250 pp 6-9 days
and I think $450 pp for 10+ days

They do occasionally have 50% deposit sales. For my next cruise I ended up paying less than 10% for the deposit.

ETA
I was happy about the reduced deposit at the time. But now that final payment is less than 2 weeks away I wish I had paid a bigger deposit. I don't know what I was thinking booking a cruise where the final payment is due 3 days before Christmas. LOL

What cruise length, ship, and cabin category? How many passengers, and are you booking direct or through a TA?
