Let’s just say we could all use a little Happiest Place on Earth Right now! Update 3/4

Checking in and I noticed that by now your trip is already over. We only came back from ours a couple of days ago.

Through some major pixiedust a VIP tour was booked for our family.

That is a nice bit of pixie dust. I hope you thoroughly enjoyed it.

We have Carnation Café reservations for breakfast and Naples in DTD for dinner. No special plans other than to hit the Festival of the Holidays in DCA.

That sounds like potential for a lot of food.

Tonight we have reservations at Napa Rose.

We still have not made it there. That really has to go on the list if we ever make it back to southern California.

We were there some of the same time. Following along and interested to hear how things went for you!

I am so happy to see another report by you. It has been awhile since I have read one of your reports which is probably my fault. It has been a busy four years but now that our daughter is away at college we have much more "me" time. "Me" time means "disboards" time.

I will be back later to read and catch up but at the moment, student papers are calling for my input and staffing for summer semester needs to be done (one of the hats I wear).

Cheers!

Hi all. We are back and I can report that we had a fabulous trip. pixiedust: I will be posting an update tomorrow. Since we've been back, less than a week, everyone in my home has been sick, we have had a trip to the ER, we wrapped up our amazing Christmas gift drive for local children in the foster care system, and DH left for work out of town. I am home sick today with DS and have no voice. If I don't laugh, I'll cry. :lmao:

I can say that we did renew our APs and have trips planned for April during Spring Break (offsite) :scared: and for July with 3 nights at the GCV; the other 3 nights TBD.

Wasn't that hilarious? I thought it was one of their better ones!

Loved it! Such a great movie and loved the messages.

Hope you did too :)

It was ok, good taste but not thick enough. Need to find another recipe.

Hope you got there safely, and have a most magnificent trip!!!

We did friend. I need to catch up on your report.

I enjoyed seeing your trip photos on Facebook. Fun you hung out with Pam too!

So. Much. Food. Like so much.

Welcome back. I am glad that you had a fabulous trip.

I am so sorry that everybody has been poorly and I hope that whoever ended up in ER is OK.

Gabby went to the ED with a terrible UTI. The meds are already helping though. Thank goodness.

I am really happy we renewed our APs. It always feels good to have a trip, or two, on the books.

I was going to ask if you had renewed your APs. Glad you did! Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Hi all. Sorry for the delay in updating. :flower3: Our entire home has been sick. We are fairly healthy people but this flu is literally kicking our can.

After a wonderful Thanksgiving and the day after to recuperate, it was time for vacation!!!!! We secured Guinness at the kennel the day before and arranged with a neighbor to water the Christmas tree and keep an eye on the house. I felt pretty good leaving; we had an amazing trip planned.

We had an early morning flight to Long Beach from SLC and made it to the airport and through security in no time. DH and I have Global Traveler, the kids do not, but luckily we all received TSA pre-check. Our favorite airport restaurant was closed so we settled for some crappy bagel sandwiches but at lease we had this amazing view. The sunrise was incredible and I was very happy for clear skies. I am not a great flier and any type of weather while flying unnerves me:

Because there are 5 of us and we were on a tiny Delta plane that sat 2 and 2, DH sat alone. I think he was secretly happy as we were about to embark on 8 days of family fun time. :lmao:

I sat next to my beautiful Chloe:

The flight was smooth. We landed, grabbed our luggage, and our rental car from Alamo. I chose Alamo as they have an office in DTD and thats where we'd be dropping the car off.

When we landed it was sunny and gorgeous. We knew a storm was coming in but were grateful for the blue sky and gorgeous palms trees.

Us:

First stop was to visit my father. I won't go into major detail but I will say he suffered a major and debilitating stoke 9 years ago and lives in a care facility in Anaheim. Needless to say, seeing him is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. He was a brilliant man; funny and kind. He also drank. A lot. Sorry if that's TMI. He can handle about 45 minute visits before he becomes agitated. His inability to communicate is beyond painful so I can inly imagine how he feels. Happily though, his caregivers are wonderful and take really good care of him. He's got one gentleman in particular, Memo. That man is a saint, very patient and always smiling. Here is a photo midway through our visit. He is not bed bound but he is paralyzed and likes to be in bed. The kids are amazing with him.

After visiting with my dad, we headed to SuperMex as we were famished! Sadly I did not get pics of the tacos but believe me they, and beer, were as good as ever.

Then we hit a Von's Pavillion. Look kids, here's what separation of church and state looks like:

We checked into the hotel, The Hampton Inn in Seal Beach. I have access to a friends and family rate and for 5 of with free breakfast and parking, its a screaming good deal. Its right next to a Starbucks and just a few miles away from our favorite costal locations.

We were all pretty tired and it began to rain. The kids napped while DH and I enjoyed some coffee in the lobby; there is also a Starbucks next door. And a Del Taco.

I was texting with my friend who owns a cute little boutique in Seal Beach and she sent me this pic of So Cal snow. This is at the pier in Seal.

Our plans for the evening were to go to Seal Beach's annual tree lighting ceremony (pictured above) but note the daunting skies. Shortly after the skies had opened up. It rained off and on.

After the kids napped we loaded up in the rental car and headed to Seal to see about the rain and festivities. It was a downpour by this time. We stopped to say hi to my friend then drove down PCH. I forgot how Southern Californians lose their minds when driving in the rain. :scared:

We decide we were hungry after and went back to Seal Beach to one of our favorites; Walt's Wharf. We shared calamari, oak grilled artichokes, fish n chips, and crab legs. :cloud: DH and I also had a drink.

We also got this crazy chocolate ganache dessert. Sorry it's a little blurry.

After dinner we were all pretty tired so we headed back to the hotel. The beds were really comfortable and for once, I slept on vacation. Happily this would be a reoccurring nightly thing.

In a nut shell, Day one was a fabulous part sunny, lots of rainy, success.

TBC............

Wow, you managed to cover a lot of ground that day. What a shame that the weather through a bit of a spanner in the works, but it still looks like an amazing day.

Sometimes we need a vacation post vacation. But happy to report we had a ton of wonderful downtime on this trip.

Following along....also wondering if the PPH Concierge had the wonderful chocolate covered strawberries on your visit? The past two times we've stayed Concierge Level they did not have them. The CM said that they are not offered every night like they used to be.

Hi and :welcome:. I am embarrassed to say that we did not stay for dessert any of our 3 nights. We enjoyed breakfast every morning and cocktails 2 of the 3 evenings. We had those nightly chocolate covered Rice Krispie treats delivered to the room too. The one night we asked about the strawberries, they did not have them. They brought us dessert out early though. They had mini pumpkin pies (amazing) and tarts. Cookies too and these fabulous Madelines.

I just found your report...we're leaving this Sunday for our first trip to DLR in 6-1/2 years! We were lucky to get a VGC 1-BR (at exactly 7 months) and I am SO excited to be going back (when the kids were little, we visited yearly)!

Wow that sunrise before you left! What photos. Shame about your bagels instead of the nice place that was closed but I was please the mex made up for it later.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Seeing him must be a myriad of emotions. Looks like he is cheered to see you all.

Seal beach sounds great and your hotel ideal. I love the breakfast , parking all ins!

Dinner yum! Fish and chips. You must have British genes! Our every Friday night goto meal. Can't beat it.

That chocolate dessert looks good no wonder blurry. The sugar coming off it gives a rush that's before you take one bite...

Looking forward to more.

Awesome and :welcome: Glad to have you.

Have you stayed at the GCV? You are going to love them! Have a fabulous trip.

I think I am English at heart. I adore mushy peas as well. :teeth:

The sunrise was stunning. Dusk and dawn are my favorite times of day.
