Just saw it on an email from DIS but the link didn't bring me to additional info. Sounds intriguing (and expensive...)

Well, I guess it's there but I don't see a link to it on the ABD site (I got this link from the Disney Parks Blog): ETA: I just found the link, DUH, under special offers.

It's not that surprising, because a lot of the other tour companies do this. Some people just don't like traveling with people they don't know. Or are willing to spend extra to get that small group experience. I'll be interested to see how well this does.

The price is adjusted based on the number of guests in the group. If you only have 10-16, the price is about $1600- $2500 more a person depending on the itinerary. A minimum of 10 is required. The price per person goes down with every 5 additional guests. A lead guest has to sign a contract to guarantee the group and there are some other restrictions...

The first time I read the article I thought it said "that's more expensive than ever" instead of exclusive. Lol.

If I were doing a private experience I'd probably go with either A&K or Nat. Geo, both of whom have a lot of experience in this field. They can also tailor an itinerary to the needs of a group, so not just the same tour with a personal guide. Or just plan it out on my own with a specialist in the area (like I did for our S. African trip). It will be interesting to see how this develops.

So it sounds to me the overall cost(s) to ABD would be equal to ABD large group or smaller group. I wonder what the tip would be per person on a smaller group. I'm thinking the tip would escalate upward to make sure the guides are insured the same pay overall per person. Sounds too rich for my blood.

Not particularly exciting news. With the 10 person minimum I wouldn't think it applies to many travelers, but it may be just the start of ABD's entry into the organized private travel market like A&K and Nat Geo as @*WDW*Groupie* mentioned.

I was going to say, I wonder if you get 2 Adventure Guides or just one with a smaller group. But I just re-read it, and it says "Take an unforgettable Adventures by Disney journey that’s more exclusive than ever—with just you, your companions and your own Adventure Guide." Singular. I wonder at what point numbers-wise you would get a second Guide?

I'll ditto Cousin Orville. 8 might be more interesting, but at those rates it would probably be prohibitive. If I were inclined to do this, I'd go NatGeo. I know Calfan had a great experience with Thompson who will guarantee trips with low numbers (without paying extra) so that's much more appealing. I think her trip went with 8 at regular prices.

one guide until you reach 16 guests. then two.

I'd be interested in doing a private tour with a much smaller number of people, but I'm sure they'll have some companies or family reunions that want to go this route. I didn't even realize it was an option!

Too funny! For obvious reasons, 8 also came to mind for me as well as a more attractive minimum :) But I agree, the pricing seems too high, especially in comparison to the smaller experiences you can get with Thomson or NatGeo. We had 10 on our Thomson China trip (2 families), with two full-time guides and a local guide in each city. On my recent NatGeo Ireland hiking trip, we also had 10 with 2 full-time guides. In each case, I got the small-group experience that ABD is now trying to offer for a much lower price point and with a better guide ratio.

I wish Thomson would allow singles to travel like ABD does...
