What crowd level makes the Express Pass necessary?

I would say yes an EP is necessary based on the crowd calendar with wait estimates I just looked at. Here's some of the estimated wait times they provided for your specific dates.

Despicable Me - 155
RRR - 90
Transformers - 90
Mummy - 90
Gringotts - 200
MIB - 90
FJ -120
Dueling Dragons - 60
Hulk - 90
Spider-Man - 70

I'm sure with a great touring plan, single rider line, rope drop, lots of rushing around, and a little waiting, you could make even the above work without the pass, but I wouldn't want to. I think it would be really stressful.

Thanks! So only one park opens early to the onsite guest each day, not both.

Yes and no. Usually only one park is open early at a time. However, during peak times, sometimes they do open both parks. I'm not sure how common it is, but I have seen it before.

Judging by our experience two days ago, you could have two express passes for four people and nobody would be the wiser. Two people ride. Two people wait. Then they swap passes and the other two people ride. Unless all lines are really long, this would work. The EP is not tied to you in any way once you fingerprint at the front gates.

Posting ways to cheat the system is not appropriate on the UO forums

Anyone can buy the ep for the day and parks

The basic ep is good for a one time use only per ride

Those staying onsite have photo ID ep cards that list valid dates it can be used which are for unlimited usage

The high end unlimited ep can also be bought by day visitors at guest services

Thanks! So what is the average wait time if using EP?

I'd say under 15 minutes. A lot of time it's a walk on or 5 minute wait. Depends on the ride popularity and crowd level that day.

I think Despicable Me sometimes gets a little longer of a wait at really busy times. Maybe I've been lucky, but we've never really had to wait at Universal with the EP.

I can only think of a couple of times where I did single rider for non-EP rides and waited 20 to 30 minutes which wasn't bad at all considering standby was way up there at the time.

Since you are going during Spring Break for some schools- an express pass may be well worth it.

For me right now - an express pass is so not necessary - I have done everything I wanted and more - yesterday at around 1 pm Gringotts wait was 10 minutes - I took the single rider and walked on. It really does depend on the time of year you go I think.
