February 2017 Wish Lifestyle / Weight Challenge: Beat the Sugar Rush and Earn Your Hero Medal!

WeLloyd I have been down for the count. I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and feeling just blah. By 2:30 am last night I had a fever of 101.3. I went to the doctor this morning and I was negative for the flu and the rapid strep. I feel fine as long as I have advil in me. I just have the sore throat and fever. We will see what the 24 strep test comes back as. It sticks because it is so nice out. We had record highs of 70 today. I really wanted to get outside but have spent all day in bed. Ugh this stinks.

Long day between the 4-H workshop and Quality Assurance. Workshop ran late so we only had 30 minutes in between that and the required Quality Assurance that both girls had to take this year in order to be able to show. 9 year old did great sitting there and listening to everything with just a little bit of playing on her ipad without the sound. I don't think some of the kids were too happy that she would just go up and look at everything for the "keeping animals healthy and happy in various tempatures barn" during quality assurance. They had things like a pig on the frozen tundra ( bag of ice cubes), a wooly sheep under a heat lamp, a fish under a heat lamp because I want him to be able to see outside and some of the kids would let everyone know what the thermometer for that animal read and they would discuss if it was comfortable or not. 9 year old kept trying to see so went right up to the speaker and would just look. (Oh the animals were stuffed except for the plastic fish). Our next time to take QA is in 3 years when they both age up. They have to take it once on each level which are beginners 8-10 year old on October 1, juniors 11-13, and Senior 14-18 and for this one a parent has to come along and stay for the entire time. The kids don't take QA they can not show their animals and you have to take it even if you show a guppy.

I've been working all weekend - i have two days of work left then off to Florida for princess hm. So ... uh.... hi.

I am happy my direct report started but she's only been on for a week. So I'be been busy training her and working on my stuff until I can delegate. Being a boss is not fun.

At least Disney is Thursday :)

Sunday was a do I walk 16 minutes today and risk not being able to do anything tomorrow or do I walk for 10 minutes and at least be able to 10 tomorrow. The 10 minutes of walking won out. 9 year old decided she needed to play with a toy right in the walkway between the front room and kitchen so I started out just doing loops between my couch and entertainment center. No lap count today. Total amount to date is 287 minutes which is 71.75% of my goal.

@courtneybeth hope you fared ok in all that rain we saw on the news here - pretty crazy with sinkholes opening up and roads washing away over there.

Hello everyone - I was reading today about the apparent digestive and weight loss benefits of drinking a mix of water, apple cider vinegar and honey .... has anyone on here ever tried this?

So I am still in a disorganised food funk ... today started ok - breakfast ok - took lunch from home yoghurt (a new brand to try with boysenberry & acai berries) yummy really liked it and a ham & cheese toasted sandwich - the wheels fell off when a meeting ran late till 6pm and knowing I had nothing in the house - I opted to pick up take-out for everyone on the way home. Here's the thing I know it works well when I get organised but I am just not getting it together at the moment - I sat with my whiteboard Sunday morning so that I could plan and then shop and (cue the crickets chirping) blank, blank, blank .... all motivation/ideas nowhere to be found which is part of the reason for takeout today!

February 20 - Healthy Breakfast
giphy.gif

Don't let your food beat up on YOU! :)
We're told that Breakfast is the best way to start the morning and it can set your metabolism right for the rest of the day. But what foods do we choose? A sugary cereal? A piece of fruit? Oatmeal? Does it really matter if all you do is count calories?

Question of the Day:
Are you a breakfast eater? What is your go-to meal?
If you're not a breakfast eater, what is your meal plan instead?

Checking in at 75%. Hit 7 miles for my long run/walk on Sat, lost the 2 lbs I gained from last weekend's trip and lost another 2. Looking forward to the final full week of Feb to finish strong.

Breakfast for me is one egg, two pieces of bacon and 1/2 an avocado. I don't count calories; I just try to stay low carb.

Check in: 75% Classes are going well and my scale is FINALLY showing me progress!

QOTD: I used to be a bigger breakfast eater than I am now. I am trying to get better about it. I am not a morning person at all so I like breakfast to be easy. An oatmeal cup I can have at my desk. Kodiak Cakes microwavable pancake (good stuff! but trying to cut back on sugars and carbs a little). And recently peanut butter protein energy balls from the place I'm ordering my meal plan. I think they are made with some sort of chia seeds or something. They are delish and filling!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE breakfast! I could eat it three meals day (and sometimes I do!). I AM a breakfast eater and since I rise really early some days for online work, I have to limit myself to NOT eating breakfast before 7:00 am most days. If I am hungry when I rise (as early as 3:45 am some days) I limit myself to fruit and coffee until about 7 am.

Go-to meal is plain fat-free greek yogurt (sweetened with liquid stevia) with fruit (usually defrosted frozen triple berry blend or defrosted frozen mango chunks.... but sometimes fresh fruit or canned pineapple or homemade rhubarb sauce).... occasionally with a Tb of whey protein powder mixed in or a Tb of wheat bran or a few chopped nuts.

Second in line for go-to would be avocado toast (grainy toast spread with mashed avocado and 1 fried egg), and third in line would probably be oatmeal. I love all kinds of oatmeal (steel cut cooked in the crockpot overnight, old-fashioned oats cooked with almond milk, overnight oats with fruit), but like others here I try to watch my carbs most of the time.

Last, but certainly not least would be eggs (both whole and egg whites). But we have eggs for dinner often enough that I don't always need to have them for breakfast. In fact, for dinner tonight we had my change-it-up breakfast bowls with black beans and sprouts.

Other things I have for breakfast occasionally include homemade egg sandwiches, smoothies, and dinner leftovers.

Great question!! I love to hear what others eat....

Hey all! Busy weekend working to continue to clean out my DMIL's house and then a quick visit to DD to see her before she left on a trip to Texas (to attend a conference). Then, of course, work all this week and then February school vacation week next week (but I still have my WW jobs to do).

For anyone who may be wondering, my burned face is TREMENDOUSLY better! Still have some redness and just a bit of healing wounds along the hairline, but overall you wouldn't even notice. I consider myself every lucky that it wasn't worse. I know I'll have to be super careful of my face in the sun this spring and summer, as the "fresh" skin will be super sensitive.

It looks like some of you are making some SOLID progress this month! WTG! It is nice to see folks still hanging around and working hard at a healthier life after the "newness" of the new year has worn off!..............P

Got 15 laps done in 11 minutes for Monday. Even with DH massaging my back last night I am still feeling it. If I am still awake when he gets home tonight I am going to ask him to give me a massage again tonight using of course the lavender massage oil. I got the sharpen massage oil done up ( enhances mental clarity and reduces stress) for daytime massages saving the lavender for relaxing. I also have 2 different base oils with frankensence. Not to mention the small bottles of both neat and sensitive ( I use so little and on my skin I can get by with a drop or two on the base of the neck) oils that I carry with me in a little zipper pouch. The only problem I have with using oils is what I want and my budget don't seem to want to cooperate

I usually try to eat something though there have been occasions where I am so busy trying to get everyone else moving that I don't get a chance to grab anythin to eat. I don't really have a go to as a lot depends on time as well as what is in the house I can say that things that will not be eaten are yougart-don't care to deal with a code v as I react to it Cold cereal is another one as it does not fill me up and less than 30 minutes later I am looking for something to eat. I have done cold chicken, cold pizza, peanut butter toast ( even better if it also has jelly which if 9 year old knew we had it she would eat the entire jar so we sneak our jelly and hide it in the clear back of the fridge-I know we are mean selfish parents but sorry we can't afford for her to eat an entire 14.5 oz jar that we have put some on less than 10 slices of toast with a spoon). Eggs in just about any style though there are some I don't care for as well as the others, pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, hot cereal, even soup or today breakfast was an apple kale walnut salad and the last of the shrimp from a precooked ring I got yesterday. The hard days are livestock show days since we have to be down there ready to go shortly after 8 am ( at least my girls don't show cavey which starts right at 8 if they did we would have to be down there by 7 am in order to feed and water and clean pens before getting ready for show) and we have to allow a 45 minute drive including time to park in the exhibitor lot and get into the barn. I am thinking granola bars, beef jerky, and even muffins to be ready to grab the night before so we can eat on the road. Even better would be having the funds to get our own camper and just park it down there even if we only stay the nights we have animals down there.

Are you a breakfast eater? What is your go-to meal?

Yes these days I am a breakfast eater - over the years it has fluctuated - it used to make me feel nauseous to eat soon after rising in my late teen/early 20s - then I used to prefer sleep to getting up so breakfast suffered. But these days I mostly need to eat breakfast - we started last year having more substantial breakfasts - it used to be a quick cereal or toast but I really started to feel that wasn't enough to get us all started on the day in the right way - so we now have eggs various ways, pancakes, bacon, (not all on the same day lol) and still the odd cereal or toast days when we are running late or have run out of all other ingredients.

Very similar answer. For me

3 to 4 times weekly fat free greek yogurt & fruit
about 2 -3 times oats
once omelette

sometimes smoothies

I am not a breakfast eater at all. Never have been. Eating my first meal at 10 is normal for me. I used to go to school without eating when I was a kid. Now I do eat toast every morning now during the week. I eat it at about 9:30 or 10 and then lunch at about 12. I used to eat eggs and egg and cheese sandwiches but I have found that I have a sensitivity to eggs and cheese. I don't eat cereal anymore because of milk. Last summer I was eating cereal and the milk (still before the exp. date) had spoiled. It was gross and I haven't been able to drink it since. I have wanted to like yogurt since I was a kid. I have tried them all and they are just gross.

+++++++++++

After being sick Friday and Saturday my mom and I took the kids to see Moana on Sunday. My daughter has been begging to see it. It was a great movie. I really liked it. Yesterday I just really wanted to be outside in the nice weather so I took the kids to the zoo. We have an awesome zoo and it is free on Mondays if you live in my county. It was a great day until I realized that it is still off season and every food place it closed. I was not too happy and neither were the kids. So instead of staying longer we started to head out at 1. I think everyone had the same plans. The zoo was not prepared for the cowards at all. I sat in my car for 30 minutes before I could pull out of our parking spot. Thankfully my car has a DVD player and the kids just watched a movie instead of fighting with each other.

I am pretty sure I over did it yesterday and I am not feeling good again today. We will see if I make it a full day at work.

I did weigh myself this weekend and I lost 2.2 pounds this past week. I am at 50% of my goal.

Yes, shifting from "doing" to "getting done" is a huge transition!

I'm having my quintessential breakfast right now... Starbucks low fat iced Chai and a bagel with non-fat cream cheese. I don't feel like eating when I first get up, so never developed the habit of eating at home... I'd probably be rich if I did, as it would save about $7 per day. On the weekends I have my breakfast around lunch time.

Mostly rainy over the weekend. Saturday morning I went to get my car tabs renewed and totally missed that I had to do emissions this year: I kind of knew it was this year but looked for a slip in the packet, and there's wasn't one, and didn't even see that they had written it, twice, right on the renewal slip. Fortunately the testing place is close by so I jetted down there and when I got back the gal let me go right back to her station, so that I didn't have to stand in line again. She had an awesome dandelion tattoo that got me inspired: I'm thinking of getting one and having the stem come down the inside of my left forearm and having some of the little winged seed-lets floating around to the back of my hand.

Sunday we took the ferry across Puget Sound and drove to Pt Townsend for lunch at a place right by the water/marina, which was really nice. We hit the little yarn store there and the one back at the town where the ferry dock is - it was a very expensive trip! But nice to do something different. Unfortunately I decided to test having chicken for dinner, and yesterday I was pretty wiped out most of the day, so that confirms (again) that I really shouldn't be eating it, or eggs.

This is super short week... woohoo! It's off to the beach Friday and my Sister is driving, so I'll be able to knit the entire way.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

I am a breakfast eater. I'd be starving by lunch if I wasn't. I have to be at work at 7:00, so I usually get up around 6. Ideally, I make myself a egg and sandwich. I just use 1 egg and cook it in my pampered chef egg cooker for 1 minute. After it's done, I put it along with a little cheese on a sandwich thin of some sort and put in the microwave for 15 seconds or so and then eat it on my way to work. I like to be able to enjoy my calories more than wolfing them down on the way to work, but for now, that's just going to have to do lol!

I then usually have an mid morning snack of some sort to tide me over until lunch. I sometimes bring a cheese stick or a small porting of cottage cheese (I know from earlier in the group, I'm about the only one who can stand cottage cheese though :rotfl2:).

Nope.... I like cottage cheese as well! I just tend to forget about it! Maybe I'll add it to my grocery list for next month! Do you prefer yours savory or sweet? I like it both ways.... with caramelized onions or with pineapple!...............P

Truthfully, I usually just eat it plain. In my extended family, some put salt and pepper on it and some put sugar on it. I'll admit I've never tried either one, but I really just love it as it is. I will admit that I'm going to have to try it with pineapple - I love pineapple!

I like cottage cheese as well. Many years ago I went to a baseball game in Milwaukee, and was surprised/excited to see so many walking around with what looked like cottage cheese, it is cheese country after all, right? Turns out it was that dot ice cream, which was brand new at the time, but it could happen you know, people eating cottage cheese as a snack at a baseball game? I also love pineapple, which I think has gotten mixed reviews here... doesn't even have to be in a rum infused dole whip...
