New Security Bubble at MK?

When we were there in February we saw someone with a stroller go through a no bag lane at Hollywood studios. It was weird.

I have a serious question, are people really worried about being attacked by a terrorist while in Disney?

I think the more likely concern is whether Disney's lawyers and insurance carriers feel its an in issue.

Am I as a guest worried? Marginally more than I am at home.....but I don't think the terrorist care much about my normal spot in Vermont.

I never worry about things which are out of my control.

Just like money insulated the World Trade Centre from the 9/11 attacks?... The WDW resort can house hundreds of thousands of people at a time, there is guaranteed to be a vast demographic and in terms of extremism there aren't many other popular tourist destinations on the planet that would make as bold of a statement as attacking WDW. Terrifying, but in the eyes of a security analyst the blunt truth which shouldn't be taken lightly. A nice balance of foot traffic flow and security screening is what's needed.

The World Trade Center was a political target for just that: it was meant to project American money internationally...including places where they didn't want any part of it for ideology reasons.

What I meant was that WDW is more susceptible (just my guess) to domestic nuttery type stuff...more of an Okla City type persona...and the sheer $10,000 price to step foot on the grounds may impede that...

But I'm no national security expert...just opinion/question.

Hey everyone,

I think we should refrain from theoretical attacks on Walt Disney World and focus on the security changes rather than the what ifs. Sure anything can happen, thats just the world we live in but lets focus on the changes for now.

I support you here...I am too far into the hypothetical world here for comfort...and now it's gone deeper (including pointing out why the security is really just a warm blankie for perception at the end of the day).

I hope they drop the checkpoints...short of that...making them more discrete would be nice.

I wonder how this will work at the monorail resorts.

They said they will add checkpoints there at the hotels. But where?

It gets tight up there, especially during peak times and Holiday Times.

The monorail hotels are low capacity...it will be fine.

They do it In Disneyland and it works

I think this will be a nice advantage if you're staying at a monorail hotel during off peak season. Sometimes that security line could be just a few people deep.
You are also doing it while you are already waiting for the monorail. So it helps kill that downtime. Of course it will be torture if you arrive at the security JUST as the monorail pulls in and you miss it. However, it should net you a time gain most of the time.
Poly, I think you could do it in the lobby, just before you go out on the deck. I don't remember the other two resorts well enough to speculate.

We are staying at the Contemporary in a few weeks. What about if we walk to the MK? How does that work? Also.. how does it work if we take the monorail to the TTC and hop on the Epcot monorail.. are we checked again? Anyone know?

They will probably have a checkpoint set up at the end of the path from the Contemporary. They do it now during busy times.
For Epcot, no one will know for sure until Monday. As it stands today, yes, you will be checked going onto the resort monorail and entering Epcot

BREAKING: Security checkpoints at the Magic Kingdom are changing April 3. Guests taking busses and boats/ferries will be screened at new checkpoints in front of the park as you depart those crafts. Guests at the Transportation and Ticket Center will be screened after getting off the parking trams but before boarding the monorail or ferry. Additional checkpoints are being added before monorail boarding at the Magic Kingdom area resorts.
