2 of those 3 can be fixed. I haven't see the show but I don't think #1 is a problem. Illuminations has no characters and does fine.I've now watched RoL 3 times (because of what I do for a living), and I enjoy it but I understand how it is not everyone's cup of tea.
Most complaints I've heard from the show:
*It doesn't have any Disney characters
*It doesn't have a wow moment
*It lacks story
and while all are true I think that it is worth the view at least once, the water.light elements are beautiful and I enjoy the soundtrack. I have compared this show to Tapestry of Nations parade at Epcot, not a lot of people "got it" and that's ok
and to me Illuminations is boring (I know, gasp) but this one is not boring, to me. The story is very lose, basically, the overall message is "we are one with the ocean and the land" very artistically presented, which is, I think, the main problem. It's not a direct, in your face, message.2 of those 3 can be fixed. I haven't see the show but I don't think #1 is a problem. Illuminations has no characters and does fine.
Interesting. My point was that you don't need Disney Characters to have a good show. Otherwise I agree.and to me Illuminations is boring (I know, gasp) but this one is not boring, to me. Blog Mickey's version doesn't make much sense to me but the others just seem like different versions of each other. The song is "we are one" so the animals, earth, water, and light and us are all in this world together and we are all connected. That seems to be the loose story overall which is what @yulilin3 said.See, this is just one of their problems ...
- According to Disney it's "... a journey that explores the deep relationship between the human and animal world."
- Blog Mickey Review "... a feeling of water vs light" and again "...the concept that water and light are different."
- Disney Blog "...story of animal tales and the connected-ness of all things."
- Inside the Magic "...it speaks of animal spirits and forces of nature"
The story is completely lost and confusing, even among those that have been following this closely.
We LOVE Animal Kingdom, could spend days wandering and appreciating the extensive detail in the park. Truly a work of art combined with nature. The show has visually beautiful components, but as a show it did not come together, did not live up to what was promoted nor was it what I would expect from Disney and a Rohde park.
I still believe everyone should see it for themselves but I could never suggest you wait hours in line.
According to the two recently posted announcements on The HUB, (below) Guests with a FP+ arriving 15 minutes or more will be accommodated.
1. Guests with a FastPass+ reservation must arrive within their window (40-15 minutes prior to the start of the show) in order to access their reserved seating. Standby Guests will begin to fill the theater after the 15 min window, which may result in the theater not being able to accommodate a Guest who arrives later than the designated time.

I'd just like to add that while I have not seen ROL yet, WOC, which some have compared this show to, does have plenty of wow moments with NO fireworks. I also think the emotional aspect of WOC is very high with the combination of visuals and music. All my opinion of course. I still cannot wait to see ROL even if it ends up disappointing us.
