Rivers of Light worth it?

I haven't seen the show live yet, but ya gotta see it at least once. Give it a shot! If you don't like it, then don't go see it again. Otherwise, you don't know what you are or aren't missing out on =)

I've now watched RoL 3 times (because of what I do for a living), and I enjoy it but I understand how it is not everyone's cup of tea.
Most complaints I've heard from the show:
*It doesn't have any Disney characters
*It doesn't have a wow moment
*It lacks story
and while all are true I think that it is worth the view at least once, the water.light elements are beautiful and I enjoy the soundtrack. I have compared this show to Tapestry of Nations parade at Epcot, not a lot of people "got it" and that's ok

2 of those 3 can be fixed. I haven't see the show but I don't think #1 is a problem. Illuminations has no characters and does fine.

and to me Illuminations is boring (I know, gasp) but this one is not boring, to me. The story is very lose, basically, the overall message is "we are one with the ocean and the land" very artistically presented, which is, I think, the main problem. It's not a direct, in your face, message.

Interesting. My point was that you don't need Disney Characters to have a good show. Otherwise I agree.

See, this is just one of their problems ...

- According to Disney it's "... a journey that explores the deep relationship between the human and animal world."
- Blog Mickey Review "... a feeling of water vs light" and again "...the concept that water and light are different."
- Disney Blog "...story of animal tales and the connected-ness of all things."
- Inside the Magic "...it speaks of animal spirits and forces of nature"

The story is completely lost and confusing, even among those that have been following this closely.

Blog Mickey's version doesn't make much sense to me but the others just seem like different versions of each other. The song is "we are one" so the animals, earth, water, and light and us are all in this world together and we are all connected. That seems to be the loose story overall which is what @yulilin3 said.

We LOVE Animal Kingdom, could spend days wandering and appreciating the extensive detail in the park. Truly a work of art combined with nature. The show has visually beautiful components, but as a show it did not come together, did not live up to what was promoted nor was it what I would expect from Disney and a Rohde park.

I still believe everyone should see it for themselves but I could never suggest you wait hours in line.

We adore AK too so I was doubly disappointed in ROL. I am still blown away by the detail in the park after spending 3 or more days there every trip for 17 trips. The show was very scattered, the elements just did not flow and the music was not moving. I don't need Disney characters to be wowed by a show, as I still find Illuminations moving after seeing it close to 50 times.

According to the two recently posted announcements on The HUB, (below) Guests with a FP+ arriving 15 minutes or more will be accommodated.

1. Guests with a FastPass+ reservation must arrive within their window (40-15 minutes prior to the start of the show) in order to access their reserved seating. Standby Guests will begin to fill the theater after the 15 min window, which may result in the theater not being able to accommodate a Guest who arrives later than the designated time.

2. Guests with a FastPass+ reservation must arrive 40-15 minutes prior to the start of the show to access their reserved seating.

Yes, but is that realistic? Does it jibe with the reality on the ground? I mean, if you show up 15 minutes before the show, will you find out that "40-15 minutes" was an unrealistic estimate?

I saw it twice, earlier this month (first time I took more pictures, and second time I mostly just observed). First time I arrived at the beginning of my fastpass time, and most of the good seats were already gone. Second time I arrived an hour early, and got a better seat, but had to sit there waiting for an hour... seems like the "fast" was missing from the fastpass. My expectations for this show were high because it debuted around ten months behind schedule, but I was disappointed and not very impressed. BTW I thought the "we are one" refrain came across rather strongly. Anyway I hope they will find ways to improve this show even though they can't add fireworks. If they don't find ways to make the show better and make the fastpass wait time for good seats shorter, then I don't know that I'd be so eager to make it a regular feature of my trips. Those who have never seen it will probably want to watch it at least once out of curiosity. It may be a one and done for some.

I'd just like to add that while I have not seen ROL yet, WOC, which some have compared this show to, does have plenty of wow moments with NO fireworks. I also think the emotional aspect of WOC is very high with the combination of visuals and music. All my opinion of course. I still cannot wait to see ROL even if it ends up disappointing us.

Is it worth taking a 4 year old and two year old? Entertaining enough for younger kids?

Exactly. Great music and great lighting all well planned can be just as effective as fireworks. The SW show at DHS right now did a great job of using music and lasers, lots of colors and styles bouncing with the music, crossing over each other creating effects. Def could have used more "lighting" for a show called Rivers of LIGHT with strong music to make those powerful moments and a finale.

I was disappointed and underwhelmed by ROL.

The father and teenage son next to me (we were there 45 mins before the show started) didn't even stay until the end.

I know this show was sent back to the drawing board. I think they need to send it back again.

We tried watching it from the side. I dont think all the images and colors looked as nice as it would from the seating area. So it was disappointing, could have just been the location we were standing at though

I was hoping this show would be amazing the way it has been advertised . We have been waiting for it to open forever it seems. Oh well we will go see it anyway and not expect to be amazed but just make it a time to sit down and relax.

There's a major issue missing here I need to point out and open for discussion. The technology seems very flawed which is most shocking to me for Disney. The main water screen has a gap in the middle, losing much of the imagery. With even a 5mph breeze all of the projections became blurry (not an issue at Fantasmic), and even the lotus holograms were mostly hard to discern. The whole thing was a real mess. I desperately wanted to love it. Can't even say I liked it.

I can't believe people wait 2 hours to see this. Glad we had a fast pass last night. Fine to see once, but we enjoyed the tree awakening thing more :)
