World of Color Dessert Party and Show Part 2 (Part 1 on previous page)

Lady and the Tramp

Beauty and the Beast

Mickey!

There was also a whole Wall-E section that I apparently didn’t get any photos of. I think I was so shocked to see Wall-E included that I stopped taking pictures and just watched.

Overall I really loved World of Color. The projections were awesome and had a lot of feeling behind them. And I loved the way they incorporated the Fun Wheel and California Screamin’ into the show. I have to agree with people who say it is one of the best shows that Disney does.

The dessert party was a huge success with our group. Mom, John and Jocelyn absolutely loved it. It was such a stress free way to watch WOC while enjoying some wonderful desserts. Was it the perfect view of WOC? No, it wasn’t, some of the bottom of the screens were cut off. I think the only perfect place to watch would be at the very bottom near the rail but then I wonder if you would get the whole picture there or be too close to see everything. But having a seat, yummy desserts and an open, uncrowded area to watch was so worth it to me. Despite the over $300 price tag for the four of us, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We sat for a few minutes waiting for the crowd to thin out. Our waiter offered me a box to take the rest of the desserts I didn’t eat. I knew I wouldn’t eat them but I asked the other three. They decided they did not want to take them so we told him thanks but no thanks. John and Jocelyn insisted on giving the tip for our waiter since I paid for the party but I have no idea what they gave him. He definitely deserved a tip!

We headed back down to the locker to get the rest of our stuff out and then we stopped in one of the stores near the exit. We got some vouchers with our package and one of those was for a free pin and lanyard. We decided to pick those up while we were thinking of it.

The park was closed so we slowly made our way out and walked back to our hotel. It was so nice to be that close and not have to wait in a huge bus line.

I ended up trading for two pins that day.

And my fitbit stats for the day.

I went to bed that night feeling super happy. Our day had been 100% successful. We rode everything we wanted to and even threw in a few extras. We had a wonderful lunch at Flo’s and then an amazing evening at the dessert party and WOC show. I could only hope that the next day would go half as good.

What an awesome day!

That World of Color dessert party seems like a great choice! That picture of all four of you is really good too. It seems the money was well spent. I really need to see that show in person.

Not having to wait in long bus lines seems like a nice plus for sure.

Wow, that picture of the 4 of you is wonderful!! I'm glad the dessert party was a success. While it might not have been the best view, I'm sure having a seat to enjoy the show was well worth it! I'm glad you enjoyed World of Color. I didn't know how much I was going to like it when I saw it, but was so pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it!

It makes me happy to hear you ended the night feeling so happy! I'm glad it was a great day!!

You got a lot of amazing pictures! Our dessert plate was almost the same but no caramel cheesecake, I think it was something key lime-ish... I'd have to pull up my pictures and look. Someday, I will finish the TR in my signature... I am also picky, though I love desserts I tend to stick with chocolate. The bundt cake was really good. Ours was a mocha one, so I ate my fiance's too because he's not a fan. Neither of us are big coconut fans so we didn't really eat the mickey macaroons. But the view and getting to sit was worth it. We had a low table up front, which was fine. We were at the top of the stairs behind the round area for the dining package seating, and someone put their kid on their shoulders, so a high top wouldn't have helped too much. We had watched the show two nights before from the dining package area, and even though we were only 10-15 feet farther back at the Dessert Party, we really felt like we got a better view of the whole show. We were looking back and forth a lot before, and it felt like we could just take in the whole picture from the Dessert Party. I think being up front could be like watching a tennis match :)

I think we'll be back in April, so I'll be looking into doing it again for sure.

Ok, I had to go look up my dessert plate and we did not have the cookie either. Which I wouldn't have eaten lol, I don't do fruit fillings. We had lime yogurt with berries in a chocolate cup (no thanks) and a dulce de leche shortbread.

The dessert party was a hit!! yay!! I agree, even with the hefty price tag and sometimes not caring for all the items on the menu, I have become a dessert party fan, too. I really do love having a less crowded spot for watching a show and a few tasty bites (and a beverage or two...or three) make it totally worth it!

Following along Ariana! Somehow the boards decided to stop notifying me. Enjoying every minute as I love DL. Goodness, back in 2012 we did a 2-day whirlwind trip as youngest son's HS band was playing there. We got to see WOC and absolutely loved it, but we did FP standing, which was a joke. I would have gladly forked over money to sit quietly and take it all in. I really do not think this was offered then, or I was just oblivious.

Carsland was not quite open when we went in March 2012; I would have loved this. Thank you for sharing all of your pics. What a happy day!

It really was a great day and the dessert party made it even better.

You keep saying you need to see DL in person, I hope you get too soon.

Yep, having a short walk back to our hotel was really nice.

I was really looking forward to WOC and was worried that I was expecting too much. But it was wonderful and having the dessert party to relax was really nice too.

Sounds like you had a great experience too!

I plan on going back again but not for a few years. That flight out there is brutal!

I do think they rotate the desserts some. I'm not a fan of fruit fillings either.

I really love dessert parties! A trip to WDW is kind of not complete now unless I do one. I'm debating about which one to do in January but I'm pretty sure we may end up back at the Star Wars one again. Jim loved it last time and he is not a dessert fan. I would like to do the Epcot Illuminations one someday.

I hate when the boards stops sending notifications!

I'm pretty sure that dessert party has only been around for a year or two at the most. Having a seat was just wonderful!

Awww, bummer you missed Carsland, it was amazing!

What Happened to “It Never Rains in Southern California” Part 1

We were up and out to breakfast pretty early on Friday, February 3rd, 2017. Disneyland opened at 9 am and I wanted to make rope drop. We only had one day and even though the park was open until midnight, I knew we would be pressed to get everything in. Unfortunately the day was kind of dark and dreary and it was threatening to rain. John had posted the song in the title on my Facebook page a few days before the trip and it was threatening to not be true.

Both my brother and I have some minor stomach issues and vacation usually messes with us a lot. I was very lucky this trip and never had any problems but John was feeling a bit off on this day. I attribute our issues with growing up on a lot of processed and canned foods. Funny thing, my Mom gets all upset when I mention that like it was all her fault. But it was really just the times, that’s what everyone ate in the 70s/80s.

Anyways, after breakfast John told us to go on ahead and he was going to go back to the room for a bit to use the more private toilet (and if he knew I mentioned that to you guys he would probably be appalled).

Mom, Jocelyn and I trekked on through security and it wasn’t long before we got to see this beautiful sight.

Of course we all had to stop at that point to use the restroom since we just finished drinking lots of liquids at breakfast. It was right at that time that John caught up to us. He really was only about 5 minutes behind us.

The lockers at Disneyland are about ½ way down Main Street. Kind of where the side alley between the Jewelry Store and the Crystal Store are at WDW. I’m not sure if I mentioned it before but the lockers are all electronic at DL. You use a machine to get a locker rather than going to a cashier. I watched Jocelyn do it this time and it seemed pretty easy.

The rope had not dropped yet and we were stopped pretty close to the lockers.

While we were waiting, it started to sprinkle a bit but not hard enough to need our ponchos. Once the rope dropped we headed towards this baby, the Matterhorn.

It was a must do for us since it’s unique to DL. The lines for this one get pretty long and it does not have FP so I wanted to knock it out first. We walked right on so I did not get any photos after this. The ride was fun but it was definitely a bit rough like read it was.

We headed next door and got in line for Alice in Wonderland. There was already a bit of a line and we waited about 10 minutes. This was the first place I noticed how tight the lines are at DL. There was no standing side by side, they were single file only. But I will say I was impressed with how DL packed so many rides into such a small space.

Alice was cute, mainly a ride through of the story. I did like that it had some parts outside.

The ride had a lot of neon lighting like Peter Pan at WDW and I was only able to get one semi decent photo.

The rain was really picking up at this point so we scurried over to the next Fantasyland ride I wanted to check out, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Both John and I had very fond memories of this ride from when we were kids at WDW and we were both really looking forward to it. First a few pictures from the line.

I did not get any ride photos unfortunately, it just moved a little too fast. The ride is basically a crazy trip through Mr. Toad’s world where you run people and animals off the road. Eventually you run head first into a train and die. As we entered the room after the train accident, it got really warm. Mom turned to me and said “this is a nice room, it’s cozy and warm”. I looked around and then said to Mom, a little in disbelief, “Mom, you know we’re in Hell, right?” Because that was what this room was, devils and heat everywhere. Mom looked around herself and said “oh, I guess we are.” So now you know where the TR title came from, we both got quite the laugh out of that one.

So what did John and I think about Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride after all these year? It was weird! I could not believe that we just rode a Disney ride that landed us in Hell. And the funny thing, it doesn’t follow the movie plot at all. Mr. Toad never dies in the movie so I’m not sure why we did. I kind of understand now why it was removed from WDW.

When we exited Mr. Toad, it was still raining so we dashed across to the next ride, Snow White’s Scary Adventures. Well, Peter Pan was actually next but it had a massive line so we never rode the DL version. This was the point where I was going to sit everyone else down on a bench and fast walk/jog to Tomorrowland to grab FPs for Space Mountain. But with it raining so hard, everyone said not to worry about it.

We all remembered the Snow White ride since it hasn’t been gone that long from WDW. I took a grand total of one picture on the ride.

The last dark ride we wanted to hit up was Pinocchio’s Daring Journey. I had pretty much given up trying to get ride photos at this point but I did get a few line photos.

This was once again your typical dark ride through the story but it was very, very old school. Most of the scenes were just cardboard cut outs, not even animatronics.

Next up was supposed to be the Storybook Land Canal Boats and the Casey Jr. Circus Train. Unfortunately both of those were closed due to the rain and we never made it back to FL to ride them. The rain had let up a bit so we headed to the final ride in FL that we wanted to catch, It’s a Small World. I know this probably wasn’t a must do for the rest of my group but it certainly was for me. I was really excited to find all of the Disney characters that were added to this ride.

Unlike WDW, the loading area of IASW is outdoors at DL. The rain had let up enough so I was able to get a few outside pictures.

And of course I took lots of ride photos, mostly focusing on the Disney characters.

First up we found Alice and the White Rabbit.

What Happened to “It Never Rains in Southern California” Part 2

Cinderella with Jaq and Gus Gus.

Pinocchio with Jiminy Cricket (the green blur next to the yellow window).

A very blurry Aladdin and Jasmine.

I still like the drunk WDW hippo better than this one that is next to Simba and Pumba. I think Timon might have been there also but the picture is not good enough to tell.

The Three Caballeros

Ariel and Flounder

Dory and Marlin

One of my favorites, Lilo and Stitch!

A very odd Woody, Jessie and Bullseye.

We really enjoyed the DL version of IASW. John did point out how it was not as polished as the WDW version. You could screws and bolts here and there and overall it just felt less put together.

One last picture before we said farewell to Fantasyland. I thought this castle display with princess dolls in the IASW dump shop was very cute.

Bummer about the rain! But you guys sure got a lot done this morning, knocking out most of the Fantasyland rides! Love the story behind the TR title, I had a feeling it might have had something to do with Mr. Toad! :rotfl:

I'm really enjoying your DL TR. We are HUGE WDW fans but are headed to DL for the first time ever this summer. Love the way there are Disney characters inside IASW. I'll have to tell my boys to watch for them!

Nice update, too bad for the rain but you were able to get quite a few things done. Love the story about you TR title! I remember riding Mr Toad with my aunt back in, it must have been 1987, I think that's the only trip I was on with her. She was shocked at the storyline of that ride, "We got hit by a train and went to hell?? I can't believe it!" LOL we got a lot of laughs out of that one.

Hope you were able to avoid the rain for the rest of your day.

The rain didn't seem to put too much of a damper into your day. You got a lot done!

That Mr. Toad's story is great and now the TR title makes sense! I never got to ride it at WDW.

The DL Small World is just beautiful.

You took some great pictures. I like the angles. Did you take them with your phone or an actual camera? If with phone, was it an iPhone?

I never thought about it, but that really makes a lot of sense!! As a "grown up" I still struggle with cooking and making good food choices because that's not how I grew up eating!!

My brother, on the other hand, would find it hilarious and probably encourage me to tell my TR readers about it!! Followed by a row of poop emojis, for good measure! :rotfl:

I honestly never even knew what Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was like because it was gone before I ever went to WDW. This is just too weird--dying on a Disney attraction! I have been curious about your title--this is an awesome story!!! "Oh, I guess we are." Love it!!

this all looks like so so much fun, I just love it all and feels like im there with you!

Your poor brother. I hope this is the last of the stomach problems!

Luckily the rain was pretty much over for the day after IASW. We did do a good job getting through the FL rides that morning.

The DL Small World is just beautiful.

Nope, we danced around the raindrops that morning! We really had no choice since this was the only DL day for John & Jocelyn.

I know I rode Mr. Toad as a kid but have no memories other than the cars being fast and jerky. We missed riding it on our honeymoon in 1998 as it had just closed for the conversion to Winnie the Pooh.

You took some great pictures. I like the angles. Did you take them with your phone or an actual camera? If with phone, was it an iPhone?

Most of my pictures are from a point and shoot camera. I have a Canon Powershot S110. It's a bit higher end and I bought it mainly because it takes better pictures in the dark without using flash. I do take the occasional photo with my Iphone 6 but mainly use those to post to Facebook.

I never thought about it, but that really makes a lot of sense!! As a "grown up" I still struggle with cooking and making good food choices because that's not how I grew up eating!!

Yep, and the sad thing is I still eat that way. Sunday for lunch I had Spagettios, pretzels and a cupcake. :rotfl2:I really need to work on my food choices but it's very hard when you are as picky as I am.

Mr. Toad was super weird but I'm glad we rode it.

I took the kids on Mr. Toads a couple of years ago. They were shocked they ended up in hell at Disneyland. I always thought the dark rides were really odd.

We were pretty shocked too. I definitely don't remember that aspect of the ride from childhood!

this all looks like so so much fun, I just love it all and feels like im there with you!

Your poor brother. I hope this is the last of the stomach problems!

It was a really fun trip, I want to go back!

It was the last of his troubles thank goodness.

We Head to the Future Part 1

Sorry for the long absence! Things got a bit crazy at work for a while plus Jim and I took a short trip to Williamsburg, VA. I planned on doing a small TR for that one but I was super lazy with photos and took only a handful. Basically we spent two days exploring historical Williamsburg and then one day at Busch Gardens where, despite some motion sickness issues, I managed to ride 5 of their 7 coasters.

When we left off last, we were finished with Fantasyland, well at least with everything that was open. We had planned on hitting up the Storybook Land Canal Boats but it was closed due to the rain.

Luckily the rain had pretty much let up by the time we headed towards Tomorrowland. The first attraction we came upon was the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.

Both John and I really wanted to ride this one because we remembered the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea version from WDW. Well, all I really remember was seeing fake fish on sticks. The wait time said 30 minutes so I had the other three get in line while I ran and got Hyperspace Mountain FPs. It took me a bit to find the machines and once I did, our FP time was for 1 ½ hours later. Darn, I really should have done a FP run while we were still in Fantasyland. I was not planning on spending that much time in Tomorrowland.

I made it back to the Nemo line and the other three were right at a corner which made it easy for me to join them in line. The wait time was pretty accurate so after about 30 minutes, we were loaded onto our sub. Mom was a little worried about the subs, she gets a bit anxious in tight spaces, but it wasn’t really that bad. Here’s a picture Jocelyn snapped of me and Mom. I swear I took one of her and John but I can’t find it.

The first part of the voyage is outdoors and I got some good pictures out of my porthole. Watch out fishes, here comes Darla!

There’s one of those fake fish I remember! Looks like they did a better job hiding the stick this time.

The second part of the ride is through a cave. Our captain told us they had invented a "fish microphone" so we could hear what they were saying. There was basically a bunch of scenes from Finding Nemo out the window. They were really hard to see and by this time I was getting bored and my neck was hurting from bending down to look out the window. Here’s a few bad pictures from that part.

Overall, none of us were really impressed with the ride and I think it was a one and done for us.

Next we headed towards the monorail entrance because it was a must do for John. The monorail is really more of a ride at Disneyland. It only has two stops, Tomorrowland in Disneyland and Downtown Disney. We planned on riding it all the way around but when we got to the entrance, it was closed. The CM said it would reopen later that afternoon. I’m not sure why it was down for several hours unless they do that every day?

Instead we walked over to the nearby Counter Service and everyone but me got a coffee. I wasn’t feeling anything at that moment and I was starting to get a little stressed thanks to the later FP messing up my carefully planned schedule. We still had an hour before we could use it and I didn’t have much else planned in TL. I was grasping at straws when I suggested we go visit Launch Bay. I’m really the only Star Wars fan in the group so this was stretching it a bit.

We headed up the ramp where we ran into a few Storm Troopers.

Who proceeded to turn us right back around because there was no food or beverages allowed in the building. In a final desperate move I suggested Buzz Lightyear and Jocelyn was really excited so we headed that way. As you can see, even though it had stopped raining, it was still pretty grey and gloomy.

Buzz Lightyear wait time said ½ hour but it turned out we waited closer to 45 minutes. I was a bit bored in line and took a picture of the small garden that was beside the line.

A few pictures from the indoor portion of the line.

Same hidden Mickey as in the WDW version.

I didn’t know any of the secrets of the DL game and scored a dismal 29,900. Mom even beat me with 50,600.

Jocelyn did seem to really enjoy the game and was glad we waited. The only good thing about that long wait was that it ate up the rest of the time before our Hyperspace Mountain FP so we were able to head there next.

I loved the fact that you enter above the track and can watch the vehicles being loaded below.

Look at me trying to be artsy with this next photo.

While I enjoyed the ride and thought it was fun sitting side by side, I really didn’t get the whole “Hyper” part of the ride. It was supposed to be a Star Wars layover but it was really just music and a few projections of ships on the walls. I think I was expecting too much because I had read several rave reviews and it just did not live up to that hype.

And here is our ride photo.

We Head to the Future Part 2

With that we bid Tomorrowland adieu for the time being and headed on to another big adventure.

As we passed through the Hub area, we spotted a PP photographer and stopped to get some pictures in front of the castle.

And the adventure we were headed to? Adventureland of course!

We were all starving by now, I think it was well after 1 pm, so we headed towards the Counter Service we had picked for our lunch, the River Belle Terrace. On the way there, I stopped and pulled some FPs for the Indiana Jones Adventure. When we got to the River Belle Terrace, it was no longer a Counter Service. Sometime between when Jocelyn and I were picking the restaurants and then, it had changed to a table service. But they said they could seat us as long as we took a table outside. We decided to risk it even though the skies were still grey. And it turned out all right, John and Jocelyn got some drips off of an umbrella when the wind blew but other than that we were fine. Here’s a picture of the menu.

I went with the Half Chicken with tater tots and baked beans on the side.

Mom and John got the pulled pork sandwich.

And Jocelyn got the Fried Chicken sandwich.

Our meal was very good and we all enjoyed our food. I’m all for any place that has tater tots as a side. You will notice that this was the second half chicken meal for me and it won’t be the last either.

We had some time after lunch before our Indiana Jones FP so we headed towards the Jungle Cruise which only had a 10 minute wait. This was where I started noticing how well DL does lines in such a small space. The line for the Jungle cruise had two floors to maximize space. You started down below then climbed some stairs and weaved around up above before descending back down to board the boats.

This sign made me laugh.

And some pictures from the ride. The ride had some similarities to the WDW version but there were also some big differences.

This scene looks awful familiar.

As does this one.

Backside of water in both parks of course!

One scene was very different and made me jump half out of my skin. We slowed for a minute in a very nondescript spot and all of a sudden we were attacked by piranhas!

There was no dark temple to ride through and Trader Sam looked very different at the end.
