My daughter and son-in-law are experienced travelers to WDW. This coming trip will be our 10th. However, this trip will be our first with my new grandson who will be 1 when we arrive. This is a whole new experience for us.
  1. What to bring e.g. stroller, pack and play for him to sleep, car seat? We want to use a car service. Do they have car seats?
  2. We are thinking of staying at the Boardwalk, are there accommodations for families? Maybe a suite?
  3. What should we expect with a one year old?
Any help would be appreciated.

We went when my son had just turned 12 months old. He used the pack n play that was in the rooms to sleep in. We rented a stroller from Ann off site vendor but took our umbrella stroller on the plane with us. We used the magical express so I don't know about the car service. All my son wanted to do was walk. Walk around the hotel lobby , walk in parks and didnt want to get back in the stroller. The baby centers in each park arena for each form geat for diaper changes lot of changing tables and space.

Took my son right super his first birthday. You'll want a stroller that adequately reclines. We have zobo stroller from babies r us that does the job nicely. It's very lightweight. The hotels provide pack n plays, you might just want to bring your own sheet for them. Also bring a white noise machine to keep near it to keep baby asleep. I put my son's pack n play in the bathroom area.. We stayed at Pop century and they have a curtain that you can pull they separates the room from the bathroom area. You can turn the light off in there and it's like they get their own room. Which affords you the ability to watch TV and have a drink in peace. Just don't flush the toilet! Let it mellow till the morning. My son was still on formula then. So we had to bring dish soap, sippy cups and sponge. If they are on whole milk I packed shelf stable whole milk cartons from the dollar store and throw away sippy cups. Bring snacks. My son was picky so we picked up bread and PB and crackers and cheese and fruit for him to eat. Now at 1.5 he'd do fine eating park food. Bring a pacifier and lovey blanket with you into park to keep them calm! Go back for an afternoon nap also.

I took babies at 8 months, 11 months, 16 months, and am about to take DS at 21 months. For us, going back to the resort for a nap wouldn't have worked. My son was never the type of napper where you could put him in a crib or bed and expect him to fall asleep. He did all his napping in the stroller wherever we were. I recommend bringing your own. You can gate check them easily. Even at 16 months, DS wouldn't eat any food from the restaurants even though he had been eating solid foods for quite some time. I was happy I brought him snacks he liked. He survived on milk and goldfish crackers lol. I'm thinking that will be different now at 21 months. I would plan to bring formula if you're using that or buy milk at the resort gift shop to keep in your fridge. There are so many rides babies can enjoy. At a year your little guy will probably still be ok with characters. Mine liked them at 11 months but at 16 months did NOT want the characters to approach him. If you are planning multiple character meals, perhaps make the second at least 24 hrs after the first so you can cancel it if you don't want to pay all the money just to eat the buffet :)

Bring your stroller. No need to bring a pack n play. The resort will provide one. At 1, you don't need a car seat if you plan to use buses and Magical Express. If you plan to rent a car, you will either need to bring yours or rent one. I've read that Uberfamily is available in Disney but I've never used it. Most other taxis don't have car seats.

You can see all of the rooms/configurations available on Disney's website. With 4 adults and the baby, I might suggest two rooms or a villa if you can afford it. A standard hotel room offers adult couples who are staying together no real privacy.

Taking babies is fantastic, in my experience! Have an amazing trip!!

  1. What to bring e.g. stroller, pack and play for him to sleep, car seat? We want to use a car service. Do they have car seats? We usually rent a car with our son. This will be his 4th trip at 2 1/2. His first was at 13 months. Disney has Pack and Plays. Definitely bring a stroller and one that reclines for naps. We love our City mini for travel because it reclines all the way and has a nice sized sun caopy. If you do not want to take it on the plane you can rent them from outside companies at Disney. The Disney ones will not be suitable for a 1 year old. We rent so we bring our car seat and we prefer to buy him a seat on the plane and use a car seat. While lap infants are free it is not recommended. A car seat is safer. My son still fit in his infant seat at that age so that was easier then now with his big convertible but we manage. You can take Magical Express offered by Disney for free, rent a cab (install your own seats, theirs are in awful condition but yes they do have them). With that age we like a car because we went to walmart/grocery store for diapers and supplies so we didn't have to pack too much, baby food, milk and snacks. However, you can do a grocery delivery for a fee if you choose the free Magical Express route. We brought our baby carrier and at that age he was still light enough to carry in ergo for periods of time. It was invaluable for waiting in lines and such where strollers are not allowed.
  2. We are thinking of staying at the Boardwalk, are there accommodations for families? Maybe a suite? If you can afford it, Boardwalk (and many other Disney Deluxe resorts) have vacation club units called DVC. They are beautiful, and consider the location. If there will be multiple days at Magic Kingdom consider bay lake Tower as well. These are one or two bedroom villas (the studio wouldn't work for you) that has a kitchen and living space. We usually stay in one of these with our child. The in room laundry is awesome. Search around these boards you can also rent points from sites or on here to make it cheaper then going through Disney. Art of Animation has similar suites but I am not sure of the bed configurations.
  3. What should we expect with a one year old? that was a great age. He wanted to walk a bit here and there because he just learned to walk but really still couldn't walk around the park or run like he can now so he was happy in the stroller and the baby carrier. They also have not started tantrums or wanting their way so that was great. The only thing to consider is the pace. My son was still napping twice a day at that age. One we always went back to the resort for so he could cool down, sleep in a bed and be refreshed. The second we usually let him take in the stroller. Hours are more limited because they don't (or my son anyway) stay up too late so we missed a lot of fireworks and such. The time we tried to stay with him sleeping in the stroller the fireworks woke and startled him and cried for quite some bit. They make ear muff for noises for babies which we bought for trips after learning our lesson. Bring lots of snacks to keep them occupied otherwise my lo loved just looking around and such.

Thank you everyone!
Very helpful information especially about the baby carrier.
Never thought of that.
I brought my daughter since she was 7 and now i am bringing my grandson.
Where did the time go.
Can't wait to experience disney with a whole new generation. :yay:

My family and I are taking our 1 year old Son to WDW the week of Valentines Day 2018! It is my 2nd time visiting, however many of the individuals in our party are 1st Timers!! Needless to say we are SUPER excited, many of the questions we had mostly everyone on this post have clarified for us!!! (Thank you all!!!)

We are traveling as a party of 8, with 7 adults and only the Baby Boy as an infant. Staying on property with the DxDP, and using Magic Express for transport. Flying in EARLY to Orlando from TX, we want to minimize our unnecessary expenses. We opted to "Lap Carry" the Baby Boy on American Airlines as it is free for children under 2 years of age, and to Gate Checking our stroller. This does however leave us without a Car Seat until our Magic Express bags arrive at our Resort. Our thought process is to take what we need for our First Day at WDW in our carry on luggage, so we don't waste time at the hotel simply waiting on luggage to arrive.

I have also heard that Magic Express can sometimes take too long if you are in dire need of a timely arrival. (i.e. 7am ADR's for Breakfast, before then making it to rope drop at your nearest park) So I have seen many on the DIS Forum post about opting for alternative Transportation methods. For these alternatives, the majority of my experience has been with UBER. Uber does have a "Car Seat" option on most of their UberX cars. You simply request the ride and there is an option button for "Drivers with a Car seat" (Note: Uber has limitations on the size of the child allowed to ride in said Car Seat!) More details on that can be found on their website! (https://help.uber.com/h/3abcbae1-132b-42a9-8277-0dab00fa3879)

I hope this Information helps and If I have any other updates during/after my trip I'll try and post them!!! :earsboy:
