What's in your reward miles redemption history?

I've been saving for the last two years for three flights to Vancouver during high season. I should be there in the next couple of months.
I'm now debating if I should use them instead for two flights to Europe during off season.

Just got 3 x 7 day adult Disney tickets in the mail today to use up most of our airmiles prior to switching over to a cash back card (to use to cover DVC dues now that we have bought in).

I was looking at my history and thought this may be cool idea. What is your reward miles redemption history showing for the past year? Here is mine:

1 - Sidney Crosby autographed jersey (got this framed through Frameworth and it looks amazing!)
3 - African Lion Safari General Admission Tickets
2 - SeaWorld Orlando Single Day Admissions
2 - Disneyland Adult 3-Day Park Hoppers
1 - Disneyland Child 3-Day Park Hopper
1 - Cineplex Entertainment Great Escape Certificate for Two (only cost 1 Airmile!)

I also currently have 3185 miles sitting in my account. I will likely grab a 5-Day Child DisneyWorld pass to save for later and use the remainder to grab my first of 3 African Lion Safari passes for this year.

Change of summer plans. Just noticed that Marineland is 4 and under are free, and my daughter just turned 4 yesterday, so instead of African Lion Safari this summer, we will go to Marineland instead. Just ordered 2 adult passes and my DD4 and DD 1.5 years are free (also has free parking there).

Not sure if this will help or not but this is how we treat our miles:
EARNING:

  1. we never buy anything we don't need stritcly for the Airmiles (ok, perhaps that one bonus on the cheesecake snacks :P)
  2. The return has to be at LEAST 1:1 on our money.
  3. We have plenty of storage space for dry goods so have no problem with buying oh, a year's worth of toilet paper :P, medication with extended expiration dates ...
  4. We use our AMEX card almost exclusively since it has a higher earning point -- MasterCard is only used when there is a promotion or in a store that doesn't take AMEX
  5. Before i buy anything on-line I check the Airmiles shop 1st and sling shot thru there. **keep several shopping carts almost full waiting for bonus events
  6. As much as it pains me to watch the AMAZING stories connected to foodbank deliveries (@mort1331 I'm looking at you :magnify:) we won't buy something strictly to donate, our charitable $$ are already spoken for.
REDEEMING:
Because we really don't earn Airmiles on anything we wouldn't normally be buying & we're not shopping in stores we wouldn't already be shopping in (Yes, Metro is usually more $$ but we would still shop there even if no AM) we look at our Airmiles as "FREE". So long as point 1 & 2 in our Earning criteria are met i rarely do any other math. Using this logic (and yes i realize this is not shared by most!!) if we can redeem our miles for something we would normally **want** to purchase but can't justify actually buying.. BONUS! Like you we don't like using them for flights, doesn't seem to be a good value, if i watch for sales thru Expedia (thru the Airmiles shop site!) i can get them for less than the tax. If i see "something" i want, that would truly be a luxury (current desire is a sound bar for the tv), then I'll redeem for that! Once it arrives i will giggle and show it off cause I'm a dork! I think the best *value* has been for car rentals

We won't be doing the Disney tickets because we like to hop AND we have no idea when/if we'll go back.

*** congrats on the baby :cloud9:
So when I look at buying and donating, it is for good and also personal reasons. Food bank is the good reason. Personal because I know I need to buy my park passes, so if I shop AM deals and can get 10am or more per $1 then that for me is a good return. Since the Park passes are AM less than what the US$ amount would be to pay out of pocket, it works out better. With the relish deal, I was doubling my money. $4 for 75AM. Therefore my Park passes were less than half the cost, and they dont expire.
So a win win for both sides. Plus bonus this year is ( and I was not expecting this) the food bank wanted to see my receipt for the relish and handed me a tax donation receipt.
By the way the relish deal was a lot better than the Poweraid deal last year.

But back to the main topic
2 flights to Orlando
5 5day Park passes, and more to come
2 movie passes
2 sets of passes to Wonderland ( thanks Damo)
1 wine outing for Trius
1 wine outing in Nova Scotia
4 tickets to play in Nova Scotia
my relatives in NS love these
1 great outing for Cirque in Montreal

And after the relish deal have now (or once they load) will be back to 12,000 am to spend.

I have cashed out for 3 of the 5 day park tickets (CDN deal) and 3 of the 3 day park tickets (before the deal) in the last 12 months, plus used my shop the block cash miles at Sobeys

Flights are the best value for us, because we are on Vancouver Island and it can be quite expensive to get to the mainland, but it costs us the same amount of airmiles to fly from the island as it does to fly from Vancouver :) The ferries and parking are expensive, plus it is a half day each way. And then if we choose to pay directly for flights from the island, as opposed to airmiles, it costs us an arm and a leg.
With that in mind, the last year my husband and have redeemed and flown to:
Florida
California
Phoenix
Kelowna (on my own, but twice)
Prince George (two times on my own, once with my husband)
And we just redeemed to fly to Florida again this coming November for our next Disney Cruise

I'll Play

So for us it has been good since we move to Alberta 4 year ago

So for the last year

2 - 5 Day Adult Disneyland Tickets
2 - 5 Day Child Disneyland Tickets
2 Night Hotel at Hampton Inn Winnipeg
1 Night Hotel at Hampton inn Regina
1 Flight from Edmonton to Toronto
10 Entries in the Airmiles Sweepstakes
$30 Cash Miles used at Safeway
3 - 7 Day Adult WDW Tickets
1 - 7 Day Child WDW Tickets

Working on more WDW tickets now.

Flights are definitely the best deal for us.

Flights to Disneyland and WDW make up the majority of my redemption history over the last few years.
There may be a couple of return flights from Prince George to Vancouver to watch the Canucks play as well.

In the last year I have redeemed for: 3 flights to Miami for March break 2017,
1 way flight to Miami for girls only cruise in Feb 2017, I had a credit from Delta for the return.
Yesterday I redeemed for 3 ,2 day Universal park tickets that we will use for March break 2018, and 1, 7 day WDW ticket for a solo trip this fall.

Once my Foodland points from last week post I should have enough for the flight to Orlando and then I will be Airmiles poor.

Not bad for about 2 years of savings and I don't put much effort into searching. The majority of my points come from, my credit card, the 10times Airmiles.ca events for Xmas shopping and lately I have been booking hotels through the Airmiles travel hub.

I will be using the Cash miles at Sobeys starting this weekend and putting those $50 increments into our travel fund for Disney.

I use our Dream miles solely for flights to Miami for our cruises. They can cost anywhere from $700-$900 return for April (the airlines know to charge more on Saturday and Sunday afternoons when all of the cruise ships get back to port!) I have a BMO World Elite mastercard for Air Miles so flights to anywhere in Florida are only 2,325 miles, versus 3,100 for everyone else. It adds up when you are buying more than 2 flights at a time. It's a great value when we use them for Miami. Orlando, not so much.

We also charge EVERYTHING to this credit card as we can earn hundreds of miles each month from that alone.

I must be doing something wrong...I just got a BMO World Elite AM MC, and actually priced out trips today (for December), and i can barely get one. I have 6000 miles, and the flights between Manitoba and Orlando start at 3500, most are coming in between 4900-6500......

And...Expedia?Q I need to use the airmilesshops more. My husband and I just took a trip to Las Vegas...which was booked through Expedia ....like $4000 of missed miles :faint:. Anyone know if you can earn miles if you send in proof of purchase?

@Donald - my hero : I've never been able to leave a shopping session without purchase......otherwise I don't earn the AM

I notice that the original poster was posting for flights in April (considered AM off-season) and you are looking in December (definite AM high-season) - I wonder if this could account for the difference?

I, too, have the BMO World Elite and I notice quite a difference in the required miles between high and low season flights...

.

I hope you realize i was saying that I'm JEALOUS of you doing the Pickle Palooza and the Poweraid Plunge!! Social media can be a bit of a pain at times, without seeing someone's body language some of the meaning is lost. They were both amazing deals and if we had the ability to participate like that we would be all over it but with hubby's income being so variable we need to allocate our charitable donations at a level we can live with if he doesn't manage to land a big contract. We will only go wild over AM deals that are for products we know we would be purchasing even if there was no deal.

Sorry for not responding earlier -- i didn't receive a notification that you had tagged me??

Anywho, I guess i didn't fully explain my process for having things in my cart and then finishing the sale later. I will have 2 tabs open when i'm ready to actually shop (I make sure that I'm NOT signed into my account or risk double purchases) and the one where i have been browsing and then the one that I've slingshot into from the Airmiles portal. I will then fill a new cart with the items I've previously selected and any news items I've decided i want to add. Make sense?? This is especially important with Amazon since they will not allow anything other than a "fresh" cart to count.

As far as retroactively earning the airmiles, i highly doubt that will happen but you could always try asking on the on-line chat.
